One thing I've started recognizing recently is when someone is "Chapter" talking and something changes the channel in the middle of the chapter. It's like it puts the Chapter talker on pause hoping to get back on track. There's a very specific recognizable vibe to it

I like that. Then you can look for whether there's energy trying to get back to the chapter, or if they don't even blink

Yeah, and when I change channels on someone mid-sentence I fully expect them to go back to what they were saying after I add my bit. I'm usually surprised when they don't.

If we're talking about something and I haven't finished yet saying what I wanted to say, but someone changes the subject, I often after some time still mention what I wanted to say/finish what I wanted to say, even if people have moved on to another topic.

+@@kristy. a theory I'm toying with is we're all trying to categorize the same things with mbti/socionics/mental health diagnoses/astrology.. It's all describing the same few things, we're all just trying to understand each other. None of these systems are real and all of them are real at the same time.

Ah, now I finally understand why my Oe friend and my Oe mom are so infuriating!
The common theme when my friend and I are speaking is me, bringing up some topic I want to discuss in full, hoping to think about every angle of it, to get a clear picture of all the information and how it works. This in comparison to my friend, who will discuss the idea with me for maybe a minute, and then move to three different, unrelated topics. After she does this I usually try to pull back to the original discussion, and after maybe getting a sentence or two in, she derails the train of thought back to more random things. This sequence will happen two to three times before I feel annoying and eventually give up.
This gets even MORE infuriating when I'm trying to argue a particular point, and she's changed the topic so many times that I don't even remember the point I was trying to argue anymore.

@@1mag1nat1venameI don't think you jumped the gun... his "rage" and refusal to use the grammar rules in writing drove me batty. Writing is different than talking b/c the audience can't hear intonation, pauses or inflection in writing as they can in watching a video. People need to use the damn grammar rules when writing so the audience can understand what the person "speaking" is trying to say when the audience can't see or hear the speech. The concept and why of grammar isn't that complicated to grasp, so the rage at its necessity seems childish to me.

I read one Supreme Court case from beginning to end, because I was interested in the outcome. It was "Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission." First and only Supreme Court case I read. It actually was really interesting hearing the questionings and arguments. I had no idea what a Supreme Court case was like, but the judges ask really profound questions. They basically have to think about how the law will affect the nation as a whole, and all the implications that may occur because of that law. That's a lot of thinking!

I guess what's interesting to me, and what I'm still having a hard time understanding, is that I don't perceive people like JP as changing channels at all. My uncle is similar to JP and a pastor, and everyone I know is like, "When will Unc get to the point?" and I'm thinking, "You have to be patient." JP and Unc do eventually bring the point home, they just go around more berry bushes first.
There have been occasions where I spoke with people who genuinely didn't seem to be able to hold the thread of a conversation in their heads. I really don't think JP is one of them.

Yeah this is an old comment but I agree. Jordan Peterson is straight up Ni, he is jumping around but everything he is talking about is in service to the starting conversation topic. My ENFP friend likes him but can't listen to him because the jumping around kills him. In my mind though, any Ni user should be able to follow him rather easily. Just my 2 cents though.

That's funny! I remember I was eavesdropping, and I was listening to an American woman talk to a woman from Japan. The American woman was surprised that the other woman had never seen The Wizard of Oz, so she then goes into describing the movie. She spends 15 minutes describing the movie, and she doesn't even get to the part where Dorothy gets to Oz. My brain was baffled! Like she is like, it's about a girl, and she lives on a farm, and she has these family members, and goes into great detail about the family and the farm, and what the girl is like, and talks about the neighbor, and the gypsy caravan, etc. Literally spends 15 minutes talking about The Wizard of Oz, and she doesn't once mention the fact that the movie is about a young girl who ends up in the Land of Oz. The conversation ended because the bus came, but like I was thinking, this poor Japanese woman, now she thinks the Wizard of Oz is just about a boring movie about a girl who lives on a farm...It was total Chapter talking!

Petersen does tend to ramble, but it is connected. He's all about mapping out very deep connections of ideas (wrote a book, Maps of Meaning). When you listen to him, or anyone for that matter, you have to let them ramble. This is why Joe Rogan is killing it. He lets people just talk. If you are so stuck on hearing someone talk about a certain topic and get impatient because they veer away, it's poor listening on your part.

Guys, I gotta admit, the more I watch OP. The more I realize; we're actually different orders of a 4-animal personality type; the 32 types are just different flavors consisting of 16 classic MBTI (Vanilla, but actually just milk) + 16 jumpers (Vanilla + Chocolate, but actually chocolate milk); vanilla doesn't really exist, it's just an illusion!

I love you guys, but the swearing multiple times in a minute is offputting, especially peppering in the eff word. It's just not professional and makes it hard for me to refer others to your work. I try to overlook it for the sake of the message, but it detracts from the actual content, which is itself so layered and intriguing.
I would love to see the two of you stop filling vocabulary in lazily with swear words and become more articulate in your speech. Not trying to be mean, but if your hope is to gain respect for Objective Personality, you're harming yourselves with the way you talk. Just save it for your personal conversations.

      Don't be a hater now.
What you're asking is for them not to be themselves.
I thoroughly enjoy their occasional use of profanity. It makes them come off as more relatable.
The value judgement that swearing isn't professional is a statement of your opinion and that same judgement is what makes it hard for you to refer others to their work.
The cursing doesn't detract from the content at all, it's an intrinsic facet of the content. It may be off-putting to you, but that's not their problem.
What you call ". . .filling vocabulary in lazily with swear words. . ." I say it's just them being themselves.
I understand them completely and don't see a good reason why they would need to articulate more.
You are in control of how you react to something. I'm sure you have the capacity to look past the cursing and focus on what's important instead of something that's trivial.
It's not things that upset us, it's our judgment about things that upsets us.
