This is an informational video on how to reset your Google Chromecast back to factory default as well as the setup process using an Android and iPhone. Note that both the 1st & 2nd generation can be factory reset the same way. This is a hard reset using the key/button. You do not need to have it plugged into your HDMI port however you do need to have the USB port pugged in to give it power.. I hope you find this tutorial helpful.

I was having connections issues with my Chromecast.
The spinning wheel would never end, when connecting to the TV.
Troubleshooting steps.
I had checked the cable connections.
Restarted the Chromecast.
Restarted TV and phone
Restarted my modem.
Closed and re-open the Google Home app.
Hard reset chromecast.
My chromecast was still not working until I uninstalled and re-installed the Google home app.
I went through the set up process and it connected straight away.
I hope this comment will help someone else.

THANK YOU! The simple - but genial - idea of showing where the button is made all the difference for me. I did not know of this button and when I looked at the dongle, I could not find it at first. Once I found it and followed your directions, it all worked out. I was able to bring back to life TWO Chromecast dongles that had just died on me. Spent hours trying to get them to work to no avail. Unplugging the dongle had no effect. In my case, the tablet gave the correct name for the network to connect to BUT the dongle added an extra "1" to the name of my network and therefore was not able to find it. Obviously. Thanks again. 🙂
Thanks didn't see that little reset button. But Chromecast (Home) is so flaky. It was working perfect but left it on the Hdmi port but had the Fire TV on all night but turned it off while still casting. Then it malfunctioned. I thought it was dead. I did have to reset it + go through ur steps about 6 times b4 it's finally working. I think there is a lot of interference from all the nearby WiFi. Thanks.

But this video helped me to reset my chromecast ....
Excellent video as always . If you have a VPN enabled on your mobile it will not cast, guess because wi-fi address is different to chromecast. Is there a way round this? and can you do a video please. John from England.

Why is it that when you select the input on your TV, you select HDMI 2 when Chromecast is clearly at the top?

I got a Chromecast for Christmas. After setting it up the google remote won't operate my Sanyo volume. Additionally, as I have Prime and Netflix accounts I had no issue signing into them after selecting the apps. However, despite also having an HBO account, I can't sign in I can only cast. Also I can't figure out how to deactivate a loud voice that narrates anytime an ad is about to play, etc. when I'm watching something on UA-cam. It's particularly anniying as it will play the voice on top of any google assistant requests I make. Any suggestions to these issues? I have an Iphone. Thanks and Happy New Year!

How do you remove the devices under the cast option in UA-cam? The devices don’t even exist on my network. Restarting the tablet or phone doesn’t work.

I hate to sound like "that guy", but when I was a kid, I had to literally WALK to the library to research new stuff. In 2020, after you have installed home, press the + button in the top left then 'set up device' then 'new device'. The rest should be straightforward after you click continue for your nickname you assigned earlier.

What if you don't have a hdmi port then what I'm stuck I bought an adapter and I didn't get sound
No matter what I do I listen to a bunch of you guys it always comes back to it once a Wi-Fi you can't do it on my hotspot you need a Wi-Fi whatever you guys say don't listen to them you need Wi-Fi your hotspot doesn't work for this for your car for your Chromecast trust me I've been doing this for the past 45 minutes
Sorry can’t understand your comment. Please reread it. But u mention hotspot sure u can use Chromecast with hotspot but u then need two phones and takes forever to load.
