Removing the oil cap while engine running like you did is a pretty accurate way to tell the health of the engine. If a 6.2 is blowing smoke out of the oil filler pipe then she's pretty worn out internally ( Rings ) yours has no blowby. My 1984 just barely has some but It's been worked real hard with over 200k miles on it. At our shop we used to see the 6.2's that had the added aftermarket turbos always blowing like hell out that oil fill cap. They all ended up being oil burners. Turbo charging an engine with 21:1 compression ratio can cause some serious wear especially if worked real hard all it's life.
Nice truck! only 200 made in 1982 with the 3spd transmission and 6.2L Pretty damn rare truck.... I've only seen 2 in my whole 20 years, They are pretty much referred to "Holy Grail" and restored i've seen go for up to $30k too the correct collector.
@@noahgaray7923 Nope 3spd manual... only the 1982 Chevy trucks had the Ultra-Rare NP-440 3spd + OD Transmission making it 4spds but only 3 gears, There was no 3 on the tree crap on these trucks.
Kyle H if it had OD its still a 4 speed, just an overdrive vs granny low. Ford had one too and they still called it a 4 speed. Overdrive is a gear ya know...
@@SchnelleKat have you driven a 3 on the tree? We had a Ford with a 351w with it, easy to use and shifted nice, no slamming it into down in the center. I found a 3 speed diesel. Estate sale, guess I’ll keep it secret and buy it. 200? Nothing wrong with a manual 3 speed. Used to drive a 2 speed 60s Malibu with a 6, did interstate speed somehow, talk about talk gears. Although I don’t want to rev it too much. Older diesel v8 don’t last like a straight 6. Let it be known that dodge makes the only real diesel made to work all the time all out. There’s a good reason the cut v8 diesels out of farm equipment 35 years ago.

I have a 81-83? 6.2 Diesel custom deluxe, short bed, two wheel drive, 4 speed manual, doesn't run sitting 20 years, my mechanic gaveup, now it's on Portland Craigslist for $3995, how much do you think it is worth I haven't gotten many calls, thanks
Parallel, it is not the military version which is a 24v version, this is a standard 12v system but simply needs two batteries to have enough cranking Amos for the higher compression diesel motor. Hope that helps!
It was... it actually was sold to a guy on the east coast. He flew out to meet me in San Diego, bought the truck and drove it all the way back to the east coast!

I had an 82 Scottsdale 6.2 with the 3 speed auto overdrive. Wish I still did. 4wd would climb a tree and got great mileage lol

Have two 82 short bed 6.2 4x4. They were both 3speed with OD. One a nv4500 now

Hose clamps on the AC pump. musta been a homemade air compressor thingy that didn't work based on the rusty clutch and lack of a belt.
