- Anti-racism demonstrators in the UK tore down a statue of a 17th-century slave trader, rolled it through the streets and dumped it in the sea on Sunday, in a dramatic act of protest that has shone a spotlight on the country's stubborn colonial legacy.

People have been petitioning for decades to get that statue removed & always the request been turned down by local government officials. In different parts of the UK there are different statues because of the racist history that have been petitioned to be taken down or the truth about that statue history to be revealed and petitions have been denied. I live in the UK and racism in the UK is real. We had riots in 2011 because of racism, government defunding communities, defunding educational programs for young people. Police stop and search & of the death of Mark Duggan by the hands of the British police. After the riots of 2011 small things changed for a couple of years and then back to there normal. So real change is needed her as well as the USA with systemic racism

As a black man in the US let me say to the world that thank you for finally listening. It took a global pandemic in order for 400 years of oppression to get noticed.
What whatever the reason I am glad. The crazy part is this awakening is happening in my lifetime but it was much worse for my parents and grandparents.
Hopefully the world will change through this period of time. Its long overdue.

People in Bristol have been trying to get this statue down for years through 'official methods' and have been repeatedly ignored. The protest was incredible and Colston is in the harbour where he belongs! Never been more proud of my city.

White_ Wulf_ Bristolians have been campaigning for years to have Colston’s statue removed, they managed to have the Colston Hall’s name changed, but the council dragged it’s feet re the statue. Should have never been there in the first place. I’d replace it with Sean the sheep.
