Walz retired as an E-9 with tons of honors; Vance served like 5 years up to E-4 in the press corps and was never on the front lines himself. Saying Walz is guilty of stolen valor means he’s accusing him of talking about service time he never served and medals he didn’t earn.

Claiming you retired as a Sergeant Major when in fact you retired as a Master Sergeant is Stolen Valor. Walz held the rank of Command Sergeant Major but failed to complete the requirements for keeping that rank. Vance was at least in combat area for a deployment and was active duty. I don't think all of Walz active duty status as National Guard would equal Vance's time served! Clearly you are talking about a topic you have no understanding on. And yes I did serve for 13 years of active duty Army service and was out on medical discharge. I was never in combat area but did deploy. So I know exactly what I am talking about!

@TheHoff4K Walz was promoted to Command Sergeant Major in 2004 but retired with the title Master Sergeant for the purpose of calculating his retirement benefits. He wasn't eligible to receive the retirement package given to Command Sergeants because he hadn't held the rank for 3 years. You should get your facts straight before you start spouting off like you're the absolute authority because of your military background. There are an awful lot of folks on the right who claim they are the party that represents veterans and loves our military but the minute a Democrat appears who served, they sure love looking for reasons to question that veteran's military record. So let's be honest here... Republicans love veterans who vote for them.

The very definition of Stolen Valor is to claim to have been awarded a rank or medal that you were NOT awarded, and to use that representation for personal gain. Sure, let's talk about it, hope your critical thinking skills are up to par.
No one with any common sense denounces a Vietnam draft dodger, whether left or right, it was hell and we had no business being there. That is why we, the general public, don't shit on Biden for being a draft dodger.
In relation to the current topic on the other hand, Walz played soldier for less than 20 months in total over that 24 year period because it looked good on his political resume, but the moment war occurred and he had to deploy, he filed his paperwork to leave and called his political friends to have his paperwork expedited so that he wouldn't get stop-lossed and have to deploy.
No one would blame him for that if he was just honest, and said I am old now and I don't want to risk dying, I served my time, you had your chance to kill me off, I am out.
But he lies and says he served proudly, and claims he served in combat in a Command position.
I know they quit teaching critical thinking skills in public schools in the 90s, but try to keep on track, the issue isn't his service, it is his lying about his service.

Walz trained hundreds of soldiers in artillery school both in the states and abroad. He was offered an honorable retirement after 20 years and was encouraged to do so over hearing loss from his duties, he stayed another 4 years beyond that and was in line for a promotion when he retired. The fact is at the rank he would've received he have never been in close combat even if he had stayed. He left because as he was receiving treatment for him hearing loss he saw first hand how poorly vets were being treated in post combat situations, he left military service for public service to help those vets. I'll back him and Harris over JD and the liar any day of the week.

Thank you. I'm not in the military but my cousin was, very very close family and I can tell you that he put it as paperwork a long time before he actually retired. He did so because if they were to go and start another mission or do something else, he didn't want to be pulled away from his men in the middle of it. He wanted them to have time to find a replacement and advance someone else I think that's more than honorable!
You have JD Vans on one side who is, in my opinion, nothing more than a little rich boy who went to Yale and has a bunch of millionaire trillion backers, and Walz any other corner. So we decided to focus on something like this, they can damage his campaign. I really wish that they would stop publishing every piece of information they get, before they get every single fact.
Walz is right. He knew that if he was pulled away to another mission or something, that would look really bad on his military record. It would look like he was pulled away from his men. That is what we must fight for and win. If we have learned anything about Trump from his last term in office we should be crystal clear that no lie is too big for him and that he is not just trying to be funny. He means what he says and on day one he will become a dictator. He has never claimed he was innocent! All he ever says is he has the right to do whatever he wants as President. If we allow him to win, we will never have to vote again because he or some version of him will never leave office. Ever! At least not in our lifetimes. Elections or not. The planet is being poisoned and we don't have much time left. The rich know this! The MAGA mindset will become the new National Anthem. There won't be much of anything left if we don't win this one. The rank and benefits you retire with don't always match the rank you are when you retire. Your retirement rank and benefits are based on certain criteria like how long you have held your current rank. Upon retirement Walz didn't have his current rank long enough to be eligible for it to be retirement eligible, so his retirement rank and benefits were demoted to his previous rank. That's how it works. Also, dude was 41 and was 4 years past retirement eligibility.. he can retire honorably from service whenever. Either way he retired before deployment was even announcement. A former battalion commander of Walz's National Guard unit also issued a scathing rebuke of the way the Minnesota governor has described his military rank since retiring and entering politics, writing on Facebook that Walz "did not earn the rank or successfully complete any assignment as an E9," referring to the governor's repeated use of the title.
"It is an affront to the Noncommissioned Officer Corps that he continues to glom onto the title. I can sit in the cockpit of an airplane, it does not make me a pilot. Similarly, when the demands of service and leadership at the highest level got real, he chose another path," wrote John Kolb, who became lieutenant colonel of his Minnesota unit shortly after Walz retired and launched his bid for Congress. When reached for comment, Kolb told ABC News that his statement "speaks for itself."
