Is it just me who thinks Poch has done a great job in his first season. We’ve been struggling with injuries for like 3 years and this season has been the worst. We haven’t had our best player in Reece James for 90% of the season and Chelsea is the only club that made deep runs in both cups. Top 6 is a real possibility, we’ve been the better side in matches against City, Liverpool at the bridge and in the cup final, Arsenal at home, Man Utd, and Spurs when we’ve played them. Our highs this season, the level and quality shown has been insane. If we can find consistency and maturity with this young team, Poch will win many many trophies at the club. We need a new left back and a clinical striker, get those pieces right and we’re laughing.
Btw, bringing in Amorim or Tuchel will set us back as we’ve seen the vision and style of Poch really start to embed itself into the team. Amorim’s project specifically will take even longer than Poch.

Yes and no. The biggest issue with Poche for me across the full season, was his lack of tactical ideas during the game. Sometimes he had less players to use, sometimes more, but if the game was going bad, he very rarely did any good changes in either the tactic or by substitutions. Of course you can say that players are bad, but it's clear that both side here are an issue. I little fear that in next season we will have many games where we will struggle because of his lack of vision during the game. The second thing is his way of protecting the players which piss me off seriously. They are not 18 years old players, they need to have at least some criticism, not only after closed doors, but in public view too and Poche can't defend them and blame everything on being youth, they need to know they have to improve and that they don't have 5 years to do that, but maybe 2 years at maximum...I don't think that it was a bad season with all circumstances, but in the end we need to qualify to european football and in next season we need to be at least, very close to top 4, otherwise we will be in hard financial situation.

Hiring a new manager might slightly improve the situation.
However, there will still be problems if the transfers are purely data driven, without considering what the manager’s system needs, and without considering what kind of players would work well together.
Look at how Pep has built ManCity. Data might tell you that Lampard and Gerrard are better players. But Pep needs BernardoSilva and Rodri more in his system. Lampard and Gerrard would not be able to play tiki taka passes. They might be amazing players in Mourinho’s system but they will not do well in Pep’s system.
Teamwork is another problem. You need to identify player profiles that can work well together.
Messi is short. When Messi drops deep to be the false 9, he needs a fast inside forward to make runs into the box. Beckham is slow. He needs a tall number 9 to head in the crosses. Data will tell you that both of them are great players. But they would not work well together in reality.

Chelsea players are not necessarily bad players. Before Chelsea buy them, the data shows that they are good, and they are expensive for a reason.

Lampard imbued the team with offensive spirit. Tuchel instilled defensive prowess. That combination resulted in winning trophies. The longer Tuchel stayed, the more the offense stagnated. Bayern’s performance vs Real Madrid showed wasted scoring opportunities. We don’t need that back at Chelsea.
But Poch is only offense and it’s not even world class offense
The ONLY thing I don't like about Poch is I don't think he's a manager who DEMANDS wins. Having said that, I actually think our football isn't too bad - I know the whole xG thing ought to be taken with a pinch of salt but if we took our chances we'd be running with Spurs and Villa for the top 4 spot now.

When evaluating Conor Gallagher you have to take into account his potential and not just focus on perceived limitations. In preseason he was anything but good. There was a very revealing halftime 'hot-mic' moment where he was being roasted by Raheem Sterling over his positioning and general play. His developmental trajectory from then on (in a struggling team) has been nothing short of astounding. His general stats already mark him as one of the elite midfielders in World football (if you disagree with me show me the stats to back it up) A similar progression next season would elevate him to become one of the best midfielders we've ever had at Chelsea. I don't believe the club would commit such an act of wilful self harm by selling him before he had peaked.
100%. He made his debut last season and for the club to trust him to ALREADY give him the captaincy means a huge amount of. The actual football part of the club recognises his potential and his immense importance but the business side of the club are completely blind to it
As much as I like Enzo but if am a coach, I will prefer having Gallagher in my team sheet instead of Enzo (if I have option to dropping either)

@@andyquelch5754 I should add: a few years ago I watched CG play for the academy and said he was the worst player I’d even seen in a Chelsea shirt (I’ve come a long way with my opinions on CG). Last season I saw Frankie Runham in the FA Youth Cup at Cambridge Utd and said the same thing. This season Frankie Runham has become one of the best players at the academy. Maybe I have some crazy reverse magic 🤔

How did he play so well last season then. You don't judge a player just because of a few bad games. You also need to understand and judge potential. Players need some leeway to make mistakes. They improve if they know they are valued.

We need to have a proper CB. Experienced that can play together with Chalobah preferably. Both Dissasi and Badiashile have to go.
I disagree, under TT Badiashile was great he can't have turned bad all of a sudden if it's not the system and game time after injuries..
Araujo makes a lot of mistakes for barca in the premier league would make more I think ..

Great video George - realistic, yet positive. Having said that, cant support Tuekel coming back - he won UCL, super cup and world club champs with Lampards team. His style of play reminded me of "Sariball" - and you look at Haveitz under Arteta and under Turkel and hes a different player. TT also NEVER tried to adjust his game play to make Lukaku work ( maybe he couldn't, but maybe he didn't try) fyi - im not a Havitz or Lukaku fan.
Say what you will, Poch has got this second XI performing better as the season has gone on - earlier we'd be losing from winning positions, now we draw or win ( 8 EPL games without a loss before imploding at Arsenal)

what we remember, tuchel took over, we were 10th in the league, playing badly and in danger of losing out in the champion league, and he eventually won. Took the team to six finals winning four. Never finish lower than 4th. Kept us playing european football. A nemesis to guadiola. What coach doesn't have a bad patch now and then. He is a winner, that you can never say of botchechino. Chelsea fans are so mediocre these days. Damn I miss the high values and targets of Abrahamovich.

I don't believe um saying this but I'd rather keep Poch than bring in the most of names we linked with Amorim is yet to coach in Europes top 5.. Tuchel's attacking part of the game is not good enough especially with the squad we have at the moment.. Dezebi* i don't need to even elaborate on him.. Mourinho is not the same anymore.. Motta is still young in his coaching career and yet to coach a top team.. changing the manager just for the sake of it won't get us anywhere..
To me how Chelsea FC style of playing will bring down any player style of playing and its showing a lot for one they not signing any attacking manager for the pass seasons we get two attacking managers Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel and it works but no when they to go forward with the ball it end up back to our goalkeeper for some reason
All the talk about managers as Tuchel or Nagellsman their quite different tactical approach regardless are mute as far as the owners and the board doesn't change their errr...requirement for a yesman in that position. Tuchel was fired, Enrique spent just few hours in London and ran to Paris and Nagellsman even went into a public sarcastic spat with them for that reason so ..forget about it.

Why would they buy an injured player
Silva and Gallagher are MUSTS to keep at Chelsea. Lots of reasons for that viewpoint. If you don’t know the, you’ve been sleeping. As to return of Tuchel, there’s no question he’s a brilliant coach, but he surely has some baggage. Nonetheless, I would approve of his taking over from Poch.
Whoever is running Chelsea should pls get us a new Manager for the new season. All PR for Pochettino is mostly from opposing teams fans and pundits.
I'd stick with pocket for a next season... if you're against it just compare this season and last and tell me there were no improvements.

Palmer can play as a 10, Jackson can play as a 10 and even Mudryk looked decent as a 10.. shid I'd even try Sterling in that 10 role if I had to..
Poch did his best. But my issue with him is that I still can't see what style of play he's trying to implement all season and he's never been a winner. He kinda crumble when the heat is on. We need a manager with character in that dressing room

Sorry, but I refuse to get excited about new players coming in. If stats truly mattered, we wouldn't need any new players. Everyone we've bought has been based on potential. I'll only get excited when I see them playing for Chelsea in the PL, and see them getting the job done.
Araujo is a guaranteed starter with top wages, no pass in his game and a track record of being hot headed quite regularly. He is not a leader, by the fact that he himself acts immature on and off the pitch. This dressing room needs someone to raise the floor of this squad by setting standards and being off any cliques already formed there, not another kid with 5 year contract and inconsistencies in his game. I genuinely believe that Araujo is just a faster mental Wan-Bissaka

That was a thought provoking comment. I went back to look at the CL winning lineup. On a player for player basis Palmer looks like a Havertz upgrade. It actually made me feel quite optimistic looking at what we had Vs what we now have. Thanks for posting.

I would honestly prefer Andreas Christensen over Ronald Araújo. I just don't like Araújo very much, not to say he's a bad player but I just think that Christensen is better for us because he would be cheaper, has more experience compared to Araújo and knows the Club very well. What's not to love? Gabri Veiga is off the table for me! I don't think signing a midfielder is our main priority rn we just need to convert Disasi into an Essien esc player if we can, him in a pivot with a healthy Enzo is the best we can do I think.

We clearly need a GK,CB maybe an LB and definitely new bodies on the wings and a Striker so Jackson can learn from an Osimhen type...or someone of that calibre!

Also we are leaking goals and it's clear that we need at least one experienced and top class CB and the goalkeeper wouldn't be bad if we also had a top one.
Petrovich can play cup games but so far he is eating too many goals at the near post it's crazy and I don't trust his ability to control the box on set pieces!

Lul? We need GK, 2 CB's, LB, 2 LW's, 1 CM and 1 striker. Sterling and Mudryk are useless at this point, we need to have better players on the left wing and also Silva and Chalobah (maybe also Badiashile) will leave so we need at least 2 central defenders. In the midfield we are almost out of options all the season. In summer we will have Santos, but we need at least 1 more creative player in this area. About Striker it's not even a discussion anymore, we need someone who will shot 20+ goals in the league. Jackson is overally good, but as a striker he is terrible. (with all his situation he should have around 25 goals or more in the league). Petrović is okay, but I feel like he is not very suitable for number 1, so we need to buy someone to be a rivalry for him. Sanchez is terrible, so he is out of questions. For LB, Cucurella is okay, as he can play in many positions, but he is clearly not suitable for first eleven, we need to buy someone better. Chilwell sadly have become too weak.

They came at Chelsea around the same age with the same amount of low level footballing experience and both performed as bad because i clearly remember Salah's performances like the one against Shrewsbury where he was aiming at the corner flag and passing to nobody and look what three seasons in Serie A did for him.

@@Xebthebarbarian For me Mudryk should be on loan next season to give him a chance to show that it's our coaches who couldn't let him shine. If he will play well, give him another chance at Chelsea, otherwise sell him. That's sad, but we are not in position to wait until him being 28-29 years old to show his potential. At this moment he can't be our first, probably even second choice as left wing and that's a fact, so either loan or sell is necessary. The biggest problem in loan is that we need money to buy new players and I am not sure how we are gonna do that. I hope Gallagher will stay as he is one of few people with balls in the current squad and someone who works like a 2-3 people on the pitch.

Gabriel Veiga oh well he is clearly far more technically gifted than Gallagher and has a mad long range shot but the fact that he was highly sought after and went to the camel league makes one question his mentality.

This teams young mistakes been made in the transfer market but tome tk draw a line under it now. Stop buying players, get the players we got fit and build a consistency within the club.

For me Reece is a terrific player but he is a 'sicknote' If his surgery doesn't cure him then we should cash in on him and all the other sicknotes at Chelsea. Gallagher's problem is with the owners, they want to cash him in, Gallagher should play out his contract and Boehly and co will get fuck all. The player is worth keeping. I keep thinking if it would be worth trying 3 at the back in say a 343 but it would take a manager who can implement it properly.
For me the easiest change Chelsea could do right now is sack Poch and get someone in who knows about tactics and defences. Tuchel or Mourinho would be great but the board would not want them as they are no 'yes' men.
