You gotta remember, most people in these days didnt have showers, they didnt have nice perfums or tampons or anything.
The housemaids were as clean if not cleaner than the people they worked for. A girl street-thief really had to clean up nice in order to come uptown and sneak into someones house like this... To be honest, I`m trying ever so hard to see how Cameron Diaz fits into this film, like I did with Keanu Reeves in Bram Stoker`s Dracula and Jesse Eisenberg in Batman v Superman but mostly how she is, compared to Leo DiCaprio in this film.

It's not so much that she's a terrible actress (as the majority of the comments point out) - it's that in order to pull off one the most difficult accents, you better damn well nail it or else you will be scrutinized. She probably was in over her head for this role, she is better suited for comedy/romantic comedies. She isn't a terrible actress... she just isn't one of the best.

This movie is one of my favorites and I generally like both these actors, but I don’t think either of them were well cast here.
Feels like they were put in the film to attract a wider (read: teenage) audience than a three-hour Scorsese epic period drama would normally get. Whereas with Daniel Day Lewis I get lost in watching 19th Century sociopath Bill the Butcher stalk across the screen, with these two I’m always aware that I’m watching Leo and Cameron Diaz do bad Irish accents in old-timey clothes.
Well of course, they are trying to rake in the dollars from the majority not the people who want the best talent despite how well known the actors are.
I thought it was just me that thought their Irish accents were terrible. Just awful.

I'm sorry but I think DiCaprio is pretty overrated. He always gets overshadowed by another actor in the film. In Django Unchained he literally physically beat his hand into the table until he bled and then without warning wiped real blood on a co-actor's face because he was trying so hard to be the best actor in the room.

Yeah I see what you mean but in this case, broke or not, Leo is still handsome and has a bad boy appeal here; it’s not like he just let her get away with stealing his necklace, he taught her a lesson. Then after lesson taught he kindly expressed interest. He’s still a gangsta, albeit with a moral compass and ultimately a decent human being. He’s the obviously better choice from the butcher who has the money and power but is clearly evil. Most women would give Leo a chance…like she did in this movie. Also not all women act like this woman in the movie, but let’s face it she appeals to most men because she’s pretty and the feistiness creates the chase that they crave. 😊
