Quick how to guide on removing the hardtop from a convertible Porsche 911 from 1998. This is the 996. The soft top can be a known problem area. One of the best resources I've found to help fix things can be found here:

0:05 - Clip safety catch down
0:08 - Main hook releases top
0:11 - Red button releases roof
0:14 - Ignition on, windows down
0:27 - Use Allen key, unscrew
0:34 - Roof starts lifting off
0:55 - Roof pops, ready removal
1:05 - Gain clearance, lift off
1:27 - Help needed for lifting
1:48 - Store roof on soft base
2:09 - Raise convertible roof, check
2:38 - Visual check

Do you ever remove the hardtop during the winter to use the cloth roof from time to time to avoid the cloth roof looking like an old person's face?

I ended up removing the hardtop for most of winter simply because the hardtop rattled and added a lot more weight! :-)
