I ultimately reassembled mine without the motors. It was a monumental pain getting the wiring reconnected. Your video has inspired me to try again. Gonna start early and do one side per day so that I dont get as frustrated as I did the first time. Thanks for your video.

Both of my rear windows in my 2007 997.1 S Cab. no longer work. I don't plan on selling the car anytime soon, so I just leave the rear windows up or I push them down by hand. My car has only 53,000 miles on it. It's hard to believe that Porsche made such low-quality rear window motors. Maybe when I'm bored, I will take a couple of weeks to fix both windows.

how do you bring the rear window up ? Just pull it out by hand? @@user-fi2nb7hc4q

I know exactly what you mean. I had to stop, go to bed and try again fresh the next morning. But I eventually got it.

Yeah... not for the timid or easily frustrated. Must haves 1. Torx T-20 bit socket 2. offset box end metric 13mm wrench 3. soft terry cloth to wrap around hydraulic 4. 2 ft. curved crowbar 5. piece of 2x4 stud 6. scotch tape 7. very powerful magnet 8. socket set and extensions. First thing I ran into is nuts falling into the abyss. THEY WILL FALL. I own a very powerful magnet which made nut and stud retrieval a breeze. I wrapped my magnet with a terry cloth and run it from the bottom of the outside fender to where I could reach in and grab the recovered item. Next issue was the bottom stud on the regulator fixture which has a nut. As you unscrew the nut through the hole the stud also unscrews from the regulator fixture. I used the crowbar through the top to unseat the stud, which then, of course, fell into the abyss. Once the bolts were all off I used the crowbar to pry the opening wide enough to wedge the piece of 2x4 to hold the opening wide open. Then I pull the carpet to expose the rest of the wire loom that has the rubber plug and peeled back the rubber plug about 4 inches. This made unplugging the switch connector a lot easier. Oh yeah, if your window is down you can play with the switch and pull on the window and it will release some. I sent my regulator out for rebuild so marked the location of the clips on the glass with a marker and I removed the glass. Putting the regulator back in, I opted to keep the glass off and used the offset box wrenches to install the window once the regulator fixture was back in, VERY IMPORTANT before you put the regulator back in install the bottom stud in through the top. There is a box like holder that will hold the stud (though I used a little tape to keep it from falling into the abyss) and don't forget to connect the wires. I wrapped tape around my socket to hold the nut that goes through the hole and onto the stud. The video is very detailed and helpful. I'm not taking anything away from it, I loved it but I would have saved time knowing these tips.

Thanks for sharing your video with us. You were luckier than I... The passenger quarter window on my 01 996 C2 Cab was stuck in the down position and that makes it impossible to remove glass and the window regulator all together. I had to loose the two 11mm screws that hold the window, and then I was able to pull out the window followed by the regulator/motor. As for reaching for those pesky 11mm screws while the window was down, I had to think out of the box on that one since my hands could not reach down there and all I have are conventional tools. The $30 kit I got from Amazon did it for me. In my case the rivet and pulley were in perfect condition and all I needed was to replace the cables, the middle plastic where both springs tension are installed and the motor rotor where the cables are locked. If it helps anyone out there, the longer cable goes on the bottom of the roller, while the short cable goes on the top of the roller.

My window actually was stuck in the down position, but I was able to mess with the switch and yank on it until I was able to pull it up. Wasn't easy but was luckily possible for myself. Great tip thanks for commenting

i got to this point and used a pry tool while playing with the switch to get the window all the way up - debating on the full teardown but at least I have glass in the hole @@joshrandall8364

love your video.. problem with both rear regulators in my 997 have dropped inside the window frame... I cannot pull up either window by hand nor by hand with someone else using the window switch... one is "stuck" at the bottom of the regulator and the other window I can move about 3 inches out of the body.. but neither glass will clear the front bolt to get a socket in for removal. hoping you might have experienced a "fix" or one of your fans have relayed their experience... any help is very appreciated. Thanks, Lou

The pin at 3:40, which the rear folding seats latch into, was seized for me. It kept spinning freely just as the video warned. I had to open the side panel with enough room to use a vise grip to hold the captive nut from inside the side panel. I then used a 6mm Allen key to loosen the pin.

Thanks for the great vid. Your pulley looks fine. Why did you replace? I understand old plastic is old, but in my case, and it looks like yours, the pulley seemed fine. It was the cable that stretched.

In cases like these where it's a huge pain to get to, I'd rather take a preventative cautionary measure then trust it. It's also cheap enough to justify.

Josh thanks for posting this video, was very, with some patience and sweat I finally removed the regulator on my 997.2, I found the access to bolts was easier with the top up fully, I did have a problem disconnecting the power cord to the regulator was your cord long enough to disconnect when you pulled it out or how did you do it ?

    • @joshrandall8364

Hey glad it helped! I had a little bit of slack but I was able to put my arm down the space and disconnect the connector on the bottom of the regulator assembly. It may have been a little tricky but I don't remember it being too bad. Especially if you shimmed the support bracket properly like how I did with the screwdriver.

It’ll also help a ton if you remove the glass before disconnecting, as it’ll give you more room inside the cavity to get to it. I didn’t do this when removing, but in the install I mention I removed the glass.

bro this video helped a lot but i found a better way to get it out u don't have to remove that bolt by the hydraulics. i took the rubber off the quarter and also the to brackets that hold the glass to the regulator.

I have repaired the regulator and it works well but with the glass not attached. I am unable to bring the carrier up if the top is down. Not sure how to attach glass to carrier when in the down position. Any suggestions?
