Thank you very much for posting this video. I have a 1994 VFR and I'm thinking of replacing the exhaust system before they become obsolete. Thanks for de-mystifying the process.
It's money well spent replacing the full stock exhaust system on the VFR750 I think. It looks so much better and sounds epic with the black widow exhaust.
Very well explained, especially the part (~5:45 or so) about the engine on these bikes needing some back-pressure to work properly. These bikes have carburettors, not fuel injection - EFI can cope with altered exhaust characteristics, carbs are fussy. I haven't had to replace headers/ collector box on my '96 because I live in Oz and they don't salt the roads here, but I did recondition all of it at ~100,000 km and I can tell you that getting the header off #3 cylinder is a right royal pain (I stripped the thread on the inner stud).
Just replaced a Black Widow header and hi rise exhaust on my 94. Saw this afterwards but mine went on OK. Enough clearance for the sump plug when I changed the oil later.
Yeah I hear mixed reviews on the black widow exhaust system fitment. For some it doesn't seem to fit very well and for others it fits easy. I guess it's probably more down to slight irregularities in positioning of exhaust ports across bikes. It only takes a slight deviation at the rear to throw it off at the front and vice versa.
Hello , Very good and clear video, Thank you. I bought same downpipes for my VFR 1995 and I have same issue (not fully compatible). The rear pipes are touching the right holder step. Did you do a specifi action to correct the issue ? Thanks again
It takes a bit of moving the downpipes from engine around to get everything in under right position. Leave the fasteners securing the pipes to engine exhaust ports loose and move pipes around until the centre stand connects into its seating point attached to the downpipes
Hello Motorcycle Muse, thank you for this very clear video ! I bought the same downpipes for my VFR450 1995 and I have same issue; It is not fully compatible. The rear tube is touching the rear right holder step ans the stand. How do you manage this issue ? is it possible to rectify the pipes ? Thank you and bye
Yeah mine didn't fit at all initially. You have to understand that even a slight deviation at the rear cyclinders on installation causes major misalignment at the front cyclinders and it will seem like its never going to fit. Not sure I showed it in the video but it takes a lot of moving pipes around until you get them to fit. Dont tighten up any pipes until you get fitment in them all.
Install the rear pipes first and only put the nuts on just enough so they hold the pipes on and then try connect up the front pipes. You might have to wrestle one or the two front pipes into place and it will be a tight fit. But thats a good thing.
Hi great video thanks for sharing, just wondering what assembly sealing compound did yiu use? It looks holts furegum but not sure, also is that an adequate or acceptable seal for the front header pipes to the collector it doesn’t sit well with me I am just doing the same job with my 94 vfr, the exhaust didn’t come any clamps or anything so I assume it’s normal practice!!
Yeah no clamps came with it but they were a tight enough fit without the holts exhaust compound. It works fine if there is no major movement of the pipes. I checked pipes after installation and it seemed secure enough. It won't be falling apart anyway
I can't really give you much advice without seeing it I'm afraid. Stock exhaust muffler should fit back easily. The downpipes and collector might have moved slightly after you removed the silencer so a small bit of brute force to fit it back on might be called for.
@@TheMotorcycleMuse Yep it went in with little bit of help. It was just more of a 2 man job ^^. It wasn't complicated, the silencer just needed to be pushed pretty hard while someone else put the bolt in.
damn, that's not an easy task. Once my exhaust needs replacing, I'll be thankful for you making a how-to guide. Much appreciated, man!

New cillector 👌👌👌
The old muffler is not the original one, right ? Excellent job 💯

how long did it take to install
Couple of hours to install I reckon. Depends how organised you are
I removed the stock silencer as experiment and I cant get it back on the bolt hole just wont line up with the footpeg hole. Any tips?
