Imagine going to a jazz festival and every band you go see has the same freakin bass player.
Been to a few local rock shows where the drummer or bass player were the same guy for like 3 or 4 "bands".
it's kinda normal specially music festivals like that, the drummer many times is the same guy
Nico Scholz imagine going to a jazz festival and every band you go see plays jazz

so at 4:08 there's a universal signal for "go to the bridge", I personally would love to see a video that covers different signals that musicians use / should know.
Toby Freitas same

SAMEEE
Nah he was being sarcastic. That's not the universal, i.e. all music genres, sign for the bridge because there is none generally and each group agrees on their own before the set. But specifically in American jazz it used to be pointing to the bridge of your own nose, and in CCM they would do the "shaka" sign.

There was a really damning article in an Irish newspaper the week before the festival started, talking about how it has completely lost its identity and nobody actually plays jazz in cork now, thoughts?
Yeah, but that's a good thing, right?
As long as it makes people happy and brings people together, it doesn't have to be jazz.
Hi Tom, that was probably aimed at who the festival organisers are booking these days, Aslan were booked as a headline act for instance, and with respect to Aslan, they are a world away from Jazz. It has become about drawing the general public in, and fair enough there are economics at play, but this was once done with a little bit more consideration and taste perhaps.

@Caster Jr depends where you are. where I am in the UK I started out doing a lot of open mic nights and meeting people that way, as well as showcasing what I was good at. then I started doing gigs supporting people I'd met until I was confident enough to start putting on my own and getting people to play at mine. I'm booking for a couple of venues in york now helping people get started like I was 15 years ago. I had to play for free for about four years until I started making a bit of money- and covers gigs are much easier to get into and to get paid for as well. much easier.
it's competitive so obviously you need to be good and you need to know the right people. practice till you're tight and then go out and do some schmoozing. I remember the first time I performed I was so nervous my legs were shaking like I was having a fit. good luck!

People *can* be friends and/or loan out their spaces to one another without being sexually involved - it’s really quite usual - so while speculating couplehood here is clearly intended harmlessly… it’s also a little silly, and doesn’t do much to advance humankind’s maturing? I mean, whatever. We all feel closer to semi-public figures than we really are, I just wish we lived in a world where the knee-jerk reaction to two people of the opposite sex collaborating wasn’t to speculate on whether or not they’re banging it out, or even to assume all individuals want to be in a relationship… plenty of people are happy alone, or more fulfilled with friends and colleagues and a career and artistic pursuits than with some cuddly-wuddly snuggle-snookums, or prefer serial monogamy to permanent commitment, or a wide variety of casual hookups to serial monogamy, or or or… I’m not scolding, I’m just saying: with such a wide variety of human experiences to choose from, I wish we wouldn’t impose on one another the assumption that everyone’s first choice is always to bang the nearest opposite-sex person: even beyond the fact that not everyone is straight, in a cold and lonely world it should be enough to think “Oh, two people get along well enough to share a space, that’s excellent!” and be happy for that alone, and just leave it there. Even if we imagine a closeness to a semi-public figure and wish them well, friendship, or even just cordiality, is cause enough to celebrate! It doesn’t always have to be smooches and fluid exchange. And yes, I think that’s Mary Spender’s space, good eye! 🙂

Quick question, Adam:
How did/do you manage to travel with your bass? It looks like you're using your regular Mono bag, so were you able to carry it onto the plane? I've heard a lot of horror stories about bringing musical instruments, like guitars, on a plane but I haven't heard anyone talk about their experience with it. Can you shed some light on this?
I have a Mono case (Vertigo) and I’ve flown with it countless times with a variety of different guitars. It’s gone in the hold and I’ve sometimes been able to take it into the cabin and every time my guitars have been totally fine. They’re amazing cases!
Luckily for you he produced an entire video answering this question!
