How To Make Taco Bell's Spicy Potato Soft Taco At Home

- You know what they say... "To love is to lose." If you're like me and love Taco Bell more than you should, then you're well-acquainted with losing favorite menu items on a regular basis. Taco Bell removed the Spicy Potato Soft Taco this week, and instead of sulking, I decided to figure out how to make it at home. --Ingredients---
Potatoes
3 large Russet Potatoes
1 tsp Cumin
1 tsp Chicken Bullion Powder
1 tsp Smoked Paprika
½ tsp Cayenne Pepper
Salt and Pepper
Cornstarch to coat
1 Tbsp Olive Oil
Flour Tortillas
Desired Toppings (Shredded Lettuce, Shredded Cheese, Diced Tomatoes)
Sauce (modified Jalapeño Ranch)
¼ cup Mayo
¼ cup Sour Cream
A splash of whole milk
1 jalapeño
1 chipotle
1 Tbsp Adobo
1 clove Garlic
Handful of Parsley
1 tsp Garlic Powder
1 tsp Onion Powder
Salt
Pepper

I use this video at least 1x a week. I should write it down haha it’s almost memorized now though! I’m a vegan mom with a carnivore son so when I find something that we can veganize and enjoy we make it a lot. This one is a hit time and time again. Thank youuuuuuuu 🙏

My wife loves these things, so I’m gonna try making them myself because a lot of the time unfortunately the damn potatoes are cold/old unless you find a well rounded location that care about what they are serving to customers. I made potato soft tacos last night. Street tacos with whole lettuce, tater tots, and pico de gallo. It was so good.

They keep removing my favorite emergency vegetarian items. Nacho fries, Mexican pizza with beans instead of meat.
Everytime the Nacho Fries go away, my heart's breaks a little bit. Never tried a Mexican pizza with beans though!

Came here after they returned this item to the menu - but they don't do it justice. I usually find it to be really inconsistent and would happily dedicate a dinner to these to get my craving curbed that way.
Nice health conscious variation of the TB recipe. But rest assured, the real McCoy is most definitely fried.

if you wanna boil the potatoes without them falling apart add some salt and vinegar to the water
I enjoy the really crunchy bits that are on the tray after roasting, if the potatoes are too solid, I can't get my favorite part
way better (and cheaper) than taco bell!
I subbed out the may and sour cream for 0% Greek Yogurt, with a bit of water to thin it down to consistency. Delicious sauce and high protein!

I do 400f convection, or around 425f bake

A few comments beforehand:
I am not a vegetarian, but I eat meat on average about three times a week. I don’t eat meat during Lent. I appreciate meat a lot. (I don’t take it for granted. I think so many people take it for granted, and that really bothers me.)
I had been eating the spicy potato soft taco very happily from about 2016-2020. I was disappointed but not surprised when Taco Bell discontinued it in August 2020. (It is coming back on 3/11/21.)
Ok, your recipe was good, but I did not shake the boiled potatoes in a bowl with the spices, corn starch, and olive oil. Instead, I drizzled everything on once I placed the boiled potatoes on the pan. Secondly, my pieces were not as small as the pieces in this video. It turned out ok, but it did not taste identical to Taco Bell’s version. Next time I will learn from my two “mistakes.” I think as long as I can get that dry crunch, this will be a keeper.

Hi if you wanted to achieve the yellowish orange color, just go to a local Indian market and pick up a small container of Their powdered food color. It comes in red, orange and yellow. I favor the yellow. I found the orange to be a bit too reddish. It's amazing I've been cooking with it for years, it adds the proper color to everything including marinades. Best of all it adds no flavor.
Edit: I forgot to mention that if you add a spoon of baking soda to your potato water it will take care of the alkalinity and you'll get even crispier potatoes.
Oh that is a really good tip about the powdered food coloring, are there any other things you like to add those to?
@@CameronMarti sorry I'm replying so late, sometimes UA-cam isn't the best at notifying me on time, lol. There's all kinds of things you can add of course to make them even more yummy but then they wouldn't be like Tacobells 😄 which were just super basic in a good way. Try sprinkling on crispy bacon crumbles after the potatoes come out of the oven. Crispy potato bacon chipotle taco? Yessss. Happy Thanksgiving to you 😁
@@CameronMarti oh shoot I just see that you meant add the powder coloring to. Carne asada marinade, Jamaican jerk chicken, carnitas, Spanish rice, 7 spice basmati rice, chicken shish tawook, endless.

Update: These are fantastic. I even made some for my aunt and she said they were really good (and she's picky with flavors) so that was a huge WIN. I also made the Jalapeño ranch sauce vegan and used vegan cheese. I'm going to refer to them as spicy breakfast tacos in my home, such a great idea. Thank you Cameron!

You are missing MSG. That is a key ingredient to Taco Bell potatoes! A little goes a long way too.
I think the chicken powder I used is like 50% msg!
NOTHING at all Mexican about tqco Bell food but the spicy cheese potato soft taco is tasty enough ,. Mine was the mexi melt add extra pico

I’m here to support the angry potatoe lovers I stopped going to TB after that. Over priced for how cheap it is to make. Plus they sell all their stuff at the store it’s fresher IMO
