New Skimmer Skate! New Movement Tech!

- This is a New Skate with the Skimmer I found yesterday. It is far faster than grinding in the air. To do the skate you dodge, grind, then grind again. On controller the inputs are, bumper, B, B, then repeat. You can fly, skate, climb walls, and a lot more. The Skimmer is a really fun movement tool and definitely a great additional to the game. For the instant dismount you can not be mid grind and have to let yourself be neutral then dodge and grind at the same time but make sure if either you hit the dodge slightly first, like super slightly almost exact same time.

I've got this down for people wonderin. You need to have boost energy to hop off mid air Dodge+Grind+Jump while having a bit of energy
all at the same time?
When you say jump do you mean the hop the skimmer does or do you mean regular jump (spacebar/a/x)? Also is that all at the same time?
@@roundraccoon6141 my old reply to this post got deleted some how here’s the deets. When your skimmer is not grinding and you are in a semi rested position and you have some boost left over press dodge and grind at the same time then jump a quarter second after

Some people might think this is hacking until they realize it’s skill. It’s button combos. This isn’t cheating. He’s using skill! Please bungie don’t nerf this! This skimmer makes the game so much fun but do fix the issue with the game crashes!
Glad im not one of those people who comments 10 seconds into the video. At first it didnt look like anything special, but now i know it is game changing, because of the speed and being able to infinitely grind using the dodge+grind trick to get off the skimmer immediately.

btw, during the Skimmer Skate, you can also still hold boost. Not sure if it truly helps a lot, though.

regarding the fast dismount - you can practice doing the dodge+grind input by summoning the skimmer and pressing the buttons simultaneously. If done right, you should see your character do a really weird animation/pose - my hunter looks like its doing a matrix dodge lol. This seems to be the window you can dismount from. if they do the normal animation for dodge or grind, then you are probably not hitting them at the same time. once you get the timing down, you can do it mid air after exiting a grind . thanks for the video and info insane gamer 300

Awesome video; you did a great job both teaching a new method of movement AS WELL as teaching people the basic controls. My only question is: is this really faster than just spamming the boost button? It’s certainly better for traversing between areas that aren’t usually connected, but I think just spamming the boost has it beat in raw speed. The main reason I say this is because there weren’t really any reference points for how fast you were moving on top of the plateau, so it’s hard to tell.
This is faster than grinding normally in the air, the ground movement of spamming boost may be faster but im not sure. And thank you!
this is definitely not faster than just spamming boost, I just tested it. But, its great if you need to cross a gap that you couldn't otherwise, you can go for about 15 seconds in the air doing this method which is really good. And then if you can get the instant dismount, you can just go forever.

How does the grind and dodge at the same time to dismount work? I can only get the instant dismout if Im in a neutral position on the floor and jump and dodge.
For me I do dodge then grind in an alternating fashion also I can't get off when I press dodge and grind at the same time it doesn't do it

Looks like there was a fix already for wall climb. I hit right trigger to jump them left bumper at peak then right trigger to jump but at this time it is disabled can’t select jump till a few seconds later 😢

I knew this, but i was essentially spamming rather than doing proper inputs, so it was inconsistent. Also, i know this is 3 weeks old, but the wall jump jumping was patched
Did you know you can D-Pad up, down, left, right while boosting and grinding for cool skate/surfing moves.
Any more tips on the dismount timing? Can't seem to get it...
For the instant dismount I found that the most consistent way to do it is by not being in a grind, hitting both dodge and grind at the same time then dismounting. But if that doesn't work try hitting dodge very slightly first. Super barely right before the grind. That should be more consistent.

Nice gotta practice the skimmer shift first
so I was able to do it once on MnK. had it all recorded with a macro and it didnt work when reusing it with the macro. The dismount thing has to be tied to either framerate or camera angle. There is something weird happening cause even controller on pc is more consistent.

looks like the dismount is framerate dependent. 30 fps makes it very consistent
Really? I did it consistently at 60 fps. Try hitting dodge ever so slightly before the grind

I'm watching this video a bit later than its original release so this might be patched but, whenever I try to doge and grind at the same time to get off of the sparrow in mid air, it doesn't work. My character does a funny animation though. Maybe it has to do with the frame rate or refresh rate, because I know Destiny is janky like that but I'm not a tech wizard. I don't think this is a skill issue either because I doubt my timing was off. Does anybody know if Bungie patched this?
EDIT: I also believe climbing up walls is patched
im assuming not but has this been compared to slipping in terms of speed? it looks slower in regards from point A to B but still def really cool!
Style pointsssss, and who knows. Give it a few days and someone will discover something else
I did some testing in the mothyards, and I found that it takes a good slipstreamer about 6 seconds to cross mothyards, and the best I could get with the sklimmer was ~14 seconds. I could just be bad though.
The skimmer keeps crashing my Xbox. It's unusable until fixed. How do you keep it from not crashing?
Okay so I kinda just accept the crashes for now...sorta. Going between load zones tends to be the reason for my crashes so try not to do that. CheeseForever made a video on the crashes and why they happen. Go check out his video
I cannot get the grinding + dodging at the same time to dismount to work...
I added it in the description but you want to be in a neutral position before you hit both at the same time so don't be grinding

All is B the crouch botton...i changed my crouch to the right analog stick
Unfortunately though, wall climbing was fixed, but at least the game crash was fixed too

Dodge by double tapping a or d and from what I can tell it’s just dodge grind jump in a quick succession but I could be wrong on how to do the tech but that is how you dodge

eva should give you a free trial version very close to the start of the quest. If you sparrow inv was full it went to postmaster, its on her second page if you accidentally deleted it

It’s slower in air, can’t fly vertically, dismount is slow and clunky.
And all around generally the Sparrow flying community is unimpressed.
Part of what makes sparrow flying fun is that well, you’re not supposed to be able to do it. And with the skimmer they intentionally made it useless to us.

I’m not being an elitist or trying to gate keep sparrow flying by any means…
But what makes sparrowing fun is the fact that most people don’t know how to fly them.
And different tool for different job?
Other than doing preset emote tricks and grinding fake rails in the sky, what can the Skimmer do that the sparrow can’t more effectively and efficiently?
Scale walls?
Why do that when you can just fly up?
Go fast?
Sparrow goes the same speed?
When it comes to tricks, the sparrow community thought that the skimmer would operate more like Skate 3 and not Tony Hawks pro skater.
Ie: In Skate 3 its YOU flipping the board and YOU board sliding the rail.
While THPS Is, here tap a button, hey look your grinding, presses button, oh look a kickflip.
And besides that, your talking about people that fly sparrows so often they literally log on to destiny everyday for an hour or two just to do sparrow tricks. They don’t even play the game anymore.
Just look at all the guys in the 4Dash discord server.

Sure…. But from the eyes of a sparrow flyer, it’s utterly useless.
We’ve been asking Bungie for years to just sell us more Sparrow Trick Emotes and personally I think that would be more enjoyable for us over what the skimmer can do.
The Skimmer to us is a way for non flyers to somewhat fly and not feel left out. Or maybe make the guy’s flying sparrows in the cistern not look crazy when a new light joins on patrol.
Now, what I would do to change the skimmer?
I would replace dodge with regular dodge, make shift key the destabilizers to roll the Skimmer.
Control to jump, left Alt to grind.
Then, while your “grinding” I would add a balance mechanic where you actually had to balance and control the grind or slide.
That would have been 100x more interesting.
Even just being able to “literally” grind ledges in the game would have been cooler in my opinion.
It would force you to look at the environment and find things to skate just like, well, Skate…
And the second you take that freedom away from the player is the second you create a bland experience.
That’s what the sparrow does better than the skimmer aside from Emote tricks.
What do we have on Sparrow?
We have a left and right “nik nak”
The Superman.
And No hander.
Then just pointing left right forward emotes on flat ground…
It’s a damn shame…

Nobody whose opinion matters said Sparrows were gonna get overtaken in popularity. Nobody whose opinion matters said Skimmers were cooler or more fun than Sparrows. And nobody whose opinion matters thinks it would've been better to have full-on skateboarding mechanics in a game that otherwise has absolutely nothing to do with skateboarding.
You sound like someone who thinks it's cool to be an early hater of something new that's obviously gonna be popular, just because it's gonna be popular. Please happily stay in your little bubble and leave the real Destiny players to their "more than a racing minigame" content. Who in their right mind judges the usefulness of a new piece of content based on an unintended use of a different piece, anyway?
