Patrice: a correction: I was a mail carrier at work that day in Edmond. You said the post office closed for awhile. No. Crime scene clean-up people went in as soon as the last body was removed, worked all night, and at 6 a.m. the next morning, we went back in to work. We did find things that hadn't been cleaned up, there was bloody mail, bloody canvas mail carts and tubs, and one victim's bloody eyeglasses on the floor. For years, the blood-stained mail tubs were still in use. Going Postal is something I despise hearing.

That was such a horrible day. I grew up in Edmond and was 10 years old when this happened. That was (at the time) a new post office building.
The Mayor was out of state and my dad was Mayor Pro Tempore, so Dad was acting Mayor that day. He and Oklahoma County D.A. Bob Macy entered the building together after the police verified it was safe. Dad still doesn't talk about that day, save for the necessary interviews that night on the evening news to represent the the city, and finally one question he answered about it during a magazine interview. It was a truly horrific scene, especially at that time. He's always out of town on the anniversary, which happens to be today. I talked to him this morning.
One thing I will mention is everyone came together at Wantland Stadium at the local university several days later for a memorial, including some of the survivors. It was televised live throughout the state on all three local network affiliate stations.
Dad went on to serve 16 years on the City council and 2 terms as elected Mayor before he decided to not run for another term. It was very important to the council and many citizens to put in that memorial on the grounds so the victims will never be forgotten. They were such good people. The names of everyone who died (except the shooter) are on the memorial.
This was a terrible event. What was (at the time) a small town came together to support each other and the families of the victims.

I was a mail carrier at work that day in Edmond. The Postmaster General came to town, promised us the world in the way of help and compassion; however, the local management team was harsh. I asked about the bloody mail we had to deliver, as one example. Some mail had a drop, some had a spray, some was absolutely soaked. I was told I was hired to deliver the mail, so deliver the mail. There are many other horrid stories. It was not a supportive place, and later on when new management came in, they were cold and in one case, extremely mean-spirited.
