Haha, I was at that game in Anaheim when Wild Wing fell in the fire, maybe as a 7th or 8th grader. IIRC, it was opening night, so full player introductions were happening, and the team had some promising young kid named Kariya.... except the name that they splashed on the ice via a green laser was "Paul Karpov!" Ah, those were the days.
YES! These videos are amazing as always. I got myself an old school Koho Blue Jackets jersey and made sure it was an older one with Stinger on the shoulder. As far as I know, he's the only mascot to have been featured on an NHL jersey aside from Wild Wing, and the only one featured on pants too. I wish the Jackets would pull a Bruins Winter Classic move and, one day, give their old shoulder patch a front jersey treatment for a special jersey
Thank you for watching! 💙 And I think you’re right about that. Can’t think of any other mascots who have been used on player uniforms. Maybe Pucky, but that was sort of the other way around. Great fun fact!
Some of my absolute favorite NHL mascots in this video. SJ Sharkie, ThunderBug, Bailey and Stinger have been in my elite tier for years, with Sharkie and ThunderBug pretty much my 1A and 1B. ThunderBug and Bailey have also overcome some controversies during their time. T-Bug's original performer, Kelly Frank, was fired after an incident with a Boston Bruins fan after she sprayed the fan in the crowd with silly string. The fan was ejected, but the team eventually fired Frank [even though they claimed other factors were involved in her dismissal]. Frank went on to develop her own mascot creation company. Meanwhile, Bailey's original performer, Tim Smith, was fired a few years ago after multiple claims of sexual harassment toward women and co-workers in the workplace, especially toward members of the Kings' Ice Crew. Smith was viewed as someone that felt was 'untouchable' based on his position as head of in-game presentation. I was worried that the team wouldn't keep the character since incidents like this have led other mascots to be retired entirely, but eventually the team brought Bailey back with a new performer [hence the makeover]. However, fans were not thrilled with the initial design of Bailey's head, which led to the 'facial reconstruction' that looked more like the original version of the character.
Damn, Christmas really is coming early this year! This series might just be the best UA-cam present! Once again I had an absolute blast watching this! Keep spoiling us please! P.S. No idea what exactly Victor E. Green is but he’s definitely related to Gritty somehow…
Thanks for watching! I did not know about the actor’s seizure but it sounds awful. I probably wouldn’t have included it in the video anyway. Too heavy.
I love this video covering the mascot history and keep up the great work, I would love to see and hear more of the history of the ones you have not mentioned and I can’t wait in till episode 3 comes out, I would also like to hear some of your favorite mascots and why they are your favorite if you can, I would also love if you could share the history of the mascots in the AHL as well if you can, this is one of my favorite icethetics series I love history and hockey and mascots so thank you so much for sharing and making this video happen can’t wait to watch/hear more
I was about to say. Fun fact on Kingston he’s in Ontario as the mascot for Your ONTARIO REIGN. Also on LA Kings helmets all of them have a sticker on the back that has to jersey logo and the words “Ace Mark” around it as a way to continue that tribute to them.
Carolina should bring back Caroline. I have a gut feeling I know why she was scrapped - I hope I'm wrong, though - but that's an adorable concept for a mascot. I have known about her for all of 3 minutes, and already I want her back. I'm not even a Cane's fan. I just think she's sweet!
Hoping next episode talks about Sparky since Sabretooth wasn't the only mascot able to change colors at will. Back in the day when the Islanders were at Nassau Coliseum with an Arena Football team, the New York Dragons. The Dragons started in 2001 after the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League relocated to Uniondale. They lasted until 2009 when they folded after the AFL took the 09 season off as they were filing for bankruptcy and planning to return for a 2010 relaunch including new teams from expansion and promotions from their development league AF2. The dragons were not in the conversation for the 2010 season. Until the end of the 2008 season the New York Dragons were black, red, and yellow with Sparky being a red dragon with yellow accents and a black jersey for Dragons home games then switching to blue with orange accents and a blue jersey for Islanders games. The dragons had planned to reveal a new logo uniforms and color scheme for the eventual canned 09 AFL season. Interestingly they were shifting to a green and gray color scheme so it's unfortunate it that aspect we didn't get to see a 3rd Sparky color scheme. Sadly the flame died out in September 2015 when they announced Sparky wasn't making the move to the the Islanders new home the Barclay's Center a whopping 3 months later Sparky was brought back and is still going strong today.
I’ve been a diehard panthers fan since I was born, I fully believe that Victor E Ratt should be our main mascot, I love Stanley but if they would change places ( Victor doesn’t go to anything, he stays in Florida) I think it would embody our team a lot better than a mascot that has a name of a trophy we’ll never win
This is probably the latest I’ve commented on a video in a while but I really want CBJ to put Stinger as an alt jersey logo, or rebrand Cleveland to have Stinger as their main logo
Sharkie is my biased choice for the best mascot, i love his stunts and he's funny, but objectively I think Thunderbug is the best. He looks so fluffy and I like that he grows a playoff beard.
@SalisburyFox the owner of that farm donated the land and helped fund part of the project. The arena was initially supposed to be named after him before the canes came to town. His name? Wendell Murphy
U forgot when the ducks had the candle from beauty and the beast sung be our guest at the first ducks game in history and they should of done player like me aka friend like me from aladdin
What you said about pucky is incorrect. If you look him up you see that he made appearances before the Wolfpack became the CT Whale Pucky actually made a appearance at a Wolfpack game before being asked to leave. You can find the story online. Plus there are old photos of pucky holding a mini Stanley cup during the NHL playoffs. I know this from being a Hartford can all my life
Yeah, to be clear, nothing I said was incorrect. He launched in 2010 and didn't become the official team mascot until the Wolf Pack rebranded to the Whale. I read the story you’re referring to and wasn’t really worth getting into. Thanks for sharing! 🐳
It’s beautiful the Kings named their mascot after Ace
Yeah, and I didn't even mention that Bailey later adopted a dog they named Ace.
💯💯
Former teammate of Bobby Orr

I don’t know how this channel isn’t bigger. The production is great and the subject matter is always interesting.
Tell your friends! 😅💙
I don't even watch hockey... I just like this guy's videos
Amazing as always! Don't forget the Tommy Lassorda incident when you'll come up with Youpi ! of the Montreal Canadiens
Thanks for watching! So many amazing mascot stories, so little time. 😅

Thank you so much!
Awesome!!! Couldn't wait for this next episode to come out!!!!
Howler on the teaser for next episode. Let’s Go!!!
The missing yeti!! ❄️

The new design for Bailey ruined his eyes
Us islander fans would love to see a Sparky & Nyisles segment!
Coming in the next episode!
Love the crowd's reactions to your puns😂
Great video as always!
Haha yeah I deserved that. Glad you enjoyed it!
We love you Sharkie you’re simply the best!!! 🦈🦈🦈

Thanks for watching!
Yesssss, can’t wait for the next one!!!
I did not know that Pucky was not a physical mascot until the Wolfpack rebranded
Surprising, right? Thanks for your membership!
What a great series! I’d love to learn some more about the AHL mascots. Here in San Diego we cherish Gulliver
Cleveland has his brother Sully
Chris, splendid stuff as always. Thanks for what you do.
I'm sure you're aware of Stormy's less than perfect intro, the seizure in the Zamboni?
Thanks for watching! I did not know about the actor’s seizure but it sounds awful. I probably wouldn’t have included it in the video anyway. Too heavy.
WildWing is the BEST sports mascot ever !!!!
🦆

Happy to hear you’re enjoying the series-and you won’t have to wait long until episode 3. It comes out tomorrow morning!
Thanks, how do you create your videos just wondering?
I edit in Adobe Premiere Pro and make my motion graphics in After Effects. I also have 18 years of video production experience, so that helps. 😅
@@icethetics Thanks for your help and that is a long time
I’m hoping for a part of 3 of more mascot mayhem
Just recorded the voiceover! Should be able to edit over the next few weeks. Aiming for a mid-February release.
Great job as always Chris.
Happy you enjoyed! Thanks as always for your membership.
Spectacular as always

Stinger is my favorite mascot!! Been with the CBJ since 2000!
Yeah, Stinger’s been with CBJ since 1999! That little bug is older than the team on the ice!

I love all of this

Banger as always 🥳🥳
Thanks for your support as always! 💙
Update: Stanley C. is officially no longer bad luck. Go Panthers!
Redeemed!

I remember seeing stinger for the first time and freaking out
When is Episode 3 comes out
Whenever I finish editing it. Not sure yet. Early January I would guess.
1995 were wild wing try to jump through the fire ring was totally embarrassing 🤦♂️
I still love Wild wing he's the best Mighty Ducks mascot.
Sharkie is my biased choice for the best mascot, i love his stunts and he's funny, but objectively I think Thunderbug is the best. He looks so fluffy and I like that he grows a playoff beard.
Looking back I should’ve included some playoff beard photos among his other wardrobe shots. 😅
@@icethetics it's so funny, he looks like Drake. I also like that he plays the drum
Did you know that PNC Arena (the Carolina Hurricanes’ arena) was actually built on what was formerly a hog farm?
I did not know that. How fitting! 🐽
@SalisburyFox the owner of that farm donated the land and helped fund part of the project. The arena was initially supposed to be named after him before the canes came to town. His name? Wendell Murphy
i mean, wild wing got a cartoon character and i dont see any other mascots with one so nuff said
Wild WIng will forever be the Goat...er....Duck of Mascots
Unfortunately for these mascots, they aren't the Raptor. Still the GOAT mascot.
iceman erasure, jk great job hahah
Haha, yeah yeah, he was no more a “mascot” than the Golden Knight is in Vegas.
Stormy eats Gritty for breakfast (literally-one of his official favorite foods is Gritty with Cheese)
😂
The 90s really said
*you want mascots? We got mascots*
Boomer didn't last because of his appearance. Yes he was a cannon, but many felt he resembled a certain part of male anatomy .
What about hunter from the Oilers?
Still two more episodes to go! He’ll make an appearance.
🔥🔥🔥
Glad you enjoyed this one. Thanks for being a member, Bret!
@@icethetics can’t wait for the next one!
Now it makes since why stinger is green
When is next episode
Whenever I’m finished editing, I guess. The good news is it’s already written. Bad news is I do have a couple more videos on the way first.
@@icethetics ok that's fine, keep making good videos
Where was he this viedo
who?

sorry I don’t know what that means 😐
The expos mascot
oh, Youppi! I see. he’ll be featured in an upcoming episode.
I actually got te meet SJ sharkey he is nice
U forgot when the ducks had the candle from beauty and the beast sung be our guest at the first ducks game in history and they should of done player like me aka friend like me from aladdin
Haha, I would need an entire episode dedicated to all the Disney on Ice® characters who ever skated at the Pond. 😅
@@icethetics do it plus if Disney still owned the ducks wild wing would be a summon in kingdom hearts 4
I don’t understand the last half dozen words of that sentence but ok! 😆
Not the groan track in the video!
😩
Actually, I like the original nameless Panther mascot more than the current sleepy Stanley.
