This meal was one of the most sought after in C-rations. It was added to the menu pretty late in the C-ration game, C-rats were not bad but definitely better hot than cold. The downside was humping the meals but eating the food lightened your load. The metal cans could make noise so we packed them in our spare sox. They left a lot of trash that would tell the enemy where we had been if it wasn’t disposed of properly.

So true! UA-cam is like politicians, they take care of you while you’re useful to them, than throw you ing the trash when you out live your “usefulness”
Simple, yet effective food science in play here. All water removed + good pasteurizing to kill all pathogens + perfectly-sealed package = not a chance for it to go bad. Military rations are packaged with more extreme measures than usual food rations, since they need to stay good for very long periods of time (military stuff is always serious businesses, so you can expect top-quality processing and packaging, especially if the biggest military budget in the planet's paying for it). It's most likely the spaghetti was freeze-dried to remove all water, then the whole thing was pasteurized after packaged, to kill all pathogens, which is why it lasted for as long as the package stays sealed (it won't last forever, because the package itself will eventually wear out, but it definitely lasts more than 50 years). And, yeah, the cookie with the white spots was most likely good as well. Chocolate sometimes "blooms" when stored in cold conditions, as the sugar and/or fat gets out of the mix. However, once mixed back up (once you start munching on it, for example), it will taste as good as usual.

Only because he's doing a dehydrated meal and not a tinned one. Look at anything steve1989 does in this era and the long range patrol rations (like this one here) hold up much better than the standard ones.
My dad had a ton of these that he got from a surplus center. We used to eat them on camping trips. My gramps (his dad) is a Nam vet. Spaghetti is definitely the best one. Stay away from anything Mexican. They’re edible, but they don’t taste great at all. A lot of them are made to stop you up as well. Plenty of them come with gum (though they may be from later on). The gum is meant to be chewed when you have a bathroom available. It will make you shit unbelievably violently, so beware.

The white specks on that other chocolate was just a sugar bloom. It's totally safe. It's kind of like what happens if you leave a protein bar or candy bar by a window (in the wrapper) where it gets hot and when you open it later, it's discolored and weird looking.
I cannot dream of doing half of the things you’ve already accomplished. Such as this. I physically could not perform this task, yet you seem to do it. Effortlessly.
I ate the exact same MRE's when I was enlisted in the 90's - including the chocolate candy which I often traded for most of the main dishes lol. The peanut butter and crackers was another bargaining tool for me . Recipes havent changed much 😅
Imagine you're a high school kid, and you're told the history teacher is out sick for the day, and you walk into the classroom and the LA Beast is your substitute teacher

Exp when they don't taste like what your use to.. Peppermint is not the same as it was in the 60's have gum that ive chewed that my parents sad was the taste they remember as a kid but changed in the 80's
In 2001 I was in Infantry OSUT in Fort Benning and we were doing a week-long bivouac. I ate nothing but MREs for days at a time. We camped at this area and I leaned up against a tree to take a dump. We left and came back 3 days of torrential rain later and that turd was still stuck to the tree. It was like brown plaster.
That's pretty interesting. I'm surprised the MREs from Vietnam aren't really that different from MREs we had in the Marines in 1987. Matches were the same. Sugar, creamer, spoon were the same. Coffee was a more generic style with no branding. And there was more stuff. Crackers, bean component, peanut butter or cheese or jelly, some form of desert, cocoa or beverage powder (Kool aid) and the accessory packet usually had more candy and stuff.
My stepdad was in Vietnam as well. I didn't have Emery's at that point they were called C rations. He would always tell me stories about the bartering system between cigarettes and toilet paper that would come in the rations.
“White flecks and spots on your chocolate bar are signs of either a “fat bloom” or a “sugar bloom,” and it's totally natural. Fat bloom is that waxy white coating that forms due to liquid fat like milk fats or cocoa butter moving through the chocolates and crystalizing on the surface”

The white specks on that other chocolate was just a sugar bloom. It's totally safe. It's kind of like what happens if you leave a protein bar or candy bar by a window (in the wrapper) where it gets hot and when you open it later, it's discolored and weird looking.
@@JakeWorden its actually the fat in the chocolate coming out
IIRC it's actually the butterfat separating and coming to the surface. Could also actually be mold in this case, but a fat bloom is more likely.
Yes, that's fat bloom. Completely safe to eat, even happens to chocolate that's hardly a week old.
I cannot dream of doing half of the things you’ve already accomplished. Such as this. I physically could not perform this task, yet you seem to do it. Effortlessly.
Glad to see a challenge where the Beast isn't crying, gagging, sweating, and/or throwing up.
It genuinely makes me so happy how well he’s doing with his views, most channels this age don’t get as many views as LA beast, so happy.
Beast: "Do not try to recreate or reenact anything you see here"
Me: No Fukin problem.
I ate the exact same MRE's when I was enlisted in the 90's - including the chocolate candy which I often traded for most of the main dishes lol. The peanut butter and crackers was another bargaining tool for me . Recipes havent changed much 😅
I noticed he's much more well spoken and articulate in his more recent videos. You've come a long way.
Imagine you're a high school kid, and you're told the history teacher is out sick for the day, and you walk into the classroom and the LA Beast is your substitute teacher
and then he tries to make it sound all macho and cool
You walk in and he's like eating something old or trying a world record
Lol he pushes the limits, this video is tame lol
It would rule. He'd probably eat the projector and then deep throat the dry-erase markers just to get his bering strait for the forth coming history lesson.
Good day class, LA Beast here. Today we are going to learn about getting our bearings straight!
LA Beast: *Eats Milk Curdles and drinks a gallon of spoiled milk* “Have a good day”
Also LA Beast: this chocolate has white speckles on it, I think I’ll just try 2 pieces.
The best part is that's natural for chocolate to do that when exposed to heat, I've had 1 year old chocolate that does that
@Bill White eat some old ass chocolate and post it when you’re done
“It smells like beans” I was dying lmao
When I watch ads on beast videos, I don’t get upset. I’m glad my man is still getting paid ❤️
Imagine eating something that was on this planet longer than yourself
Fr I want to consume something older than me at least once lol
Ever eat a lobster? Roughly 10 years per pound they weigh. So a 10 pound Lobster is roughly a 100 years old.
@@ChimeraReviews2023 fr never had lobster that’s interesting
Allow me to introduce you to the world of cougars my friend
I have twice now, a c ration from the Korean War and a lrp from Vietnam... the c rat made me sick as the powdered milk was bad ... its a really odd and funny feeling when you consume foods that are older then you.. Exp when they don't taste like what your use to.. Peppermint is not the same as it was in the 60's have gum that ive chewed that my parents sad was the taste they remember as a kid but changed in the 80's
You could crap in the spaghetti bag when you're done and it will look identical to when you started.
Lmao 🤣
Seriously. Looks like baby shit
Well that's a shitty thing to say lol
In 2001 I was in Infantry OSUT in Fort Benning and we were doing a week-long bivouac. I ate nothing but MREs for days at a time. We camped at this area and I leaned up against a tree to take a dump. We left and came back 3 days of torrential rain later and that turd was still stuck to the tree. It was like brown plaster.
@@cdc194 epic dude lol
That's pretty interesting. I'm surprised the MREs from Vietnam aren't really that different from MREs we had in the Marines in 1987. Matches were the same. Sugar, creamer, spoon were the same. Coffee was a more generic style with no branding. And there was more stuff. Crackers, bean component, peanut butter or cheese or jelly, some form of desert, cocoa or beverage powder (Kool aid) and the accessory packet usually had more candy and stuff.
Your descriptions are the best! Look forward to your vids with a smile 😊
Today I learned that The Beast is a history major
I learnt that his moobs are getting saggier each week...
@@HandleDeezNutzVoluntarily I bet you’re a little bitch
@@HandleDeezNutzVoluntarily I wanna see
@@jayman1ism Yeah, you're definitely a squirmy little soy boy. Look at the channels you follow. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@HandleDeezNutzVoluntarily dumbass lol
My dad actually served in the Vietnam war. He told me that the food he was given wasn’t bad at all.
It's like they say.
Chili mac is the best one.
Wish I could remember MY favorites from Basic...(14)
I doubt MRE is bad tbh, after all is food made for soldiers
My stepdad was in Vietnam as well. I didn't have Emery's at that point they were called C rations. He would always tell me stories about the bartering system between cigarettes and toilet paper that would come in the rations.
Haven’t seen your videos in years can’t believe you still use the same intro and music I love it
"I STILL graduated, with a major in history"
aaaaaand look at him now....
I for one, am damn proud of this man!!!!
When you said "it's just like going to an italian restaurant and have a fresh lasagna", an italian chef died of heart attack
Underrated 🤣🤣🤣
🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Oh god is Chef Boyardee ok?
“White flecks and spots on your chocolate bar are signs of either a “fat bloom” or a “sugar bloom,” and it's totally natural. Fat bloom is that waxy white coating that forms due to liquid fat like milk fats or cocoa butter moving through the chocolates and crystalizing on the surface”
Took the words right out of my anus.
@@meep8512 🤣
Yeah was gonna say
Are you 100% certain that's what it is? Is it safe to eat in that condition?
That makes me feel a lot better about something so random lol. Just take that shit right off
Sucks UA-cam is shadow banning you dude. You’re far more entertaining than Any of the other eaters on UA-cam. Good content man
Been watchin you for well over 9 years bro I’m so glad you keep the same energy thank you bro I’m actually joining the marines and wanted an inside of everything and stumbled apon this have a good day
That’s tuff hope u don’t get shot
The world needs a Stevemre and LA Beast collaboration

LA Beast - The living legend. You do what UA-cam needs! 😁👌 Greetings from Germany!
Pretty cool that Justin Roiland clearly spends his free time kicking back to some fine UA-cam content.
La Beast Starts eating the food: “Hey! This isn’t that bad! :)”
Me sees there’s 4 minutes remaining: Oh no.
Nope just talked about how delicious it was for 4 minutes
@@calumryan6328 Hahaha I did the same thing......glad it was just him talking about its awesomeness!

I’m actually happy to see the Beast pleasantly surprised by a challenge.
The music choices are always so on point, what a fuckin patriot.
When he showed beans from even stevens, I almost shit myself
What happened to Beans hair! Lol he still looks the exact same!
Hey Beast. Just want to thank you so much for the cameo I bought for my dad. It brought a tear to his eye for the second year in the row. You go above and beyond in your cameos. Also happy birthday to yourself. I can’t wait to send him another cameo from you next year. Keep up the funny and inspirational videos. And of course. Have a good day
I noticed he has that website and wondered if anyone uses it. That's awesome man!
You should do more of these MRE videos they are always interesting to watch.
Man la beast just reminds of the typical highschool jock that just does everything for 5 bucks and I love it keep it up bud
And the ironic thing is I'm still In highschool
those rations werent just food, they were a moment where you would forget your wet socks and that you werent close to home
His toilet had a lot of personality disorders throughout the years.
I love that the LA Beast still uses the same 3 or 4 default songs over his videos over 10 years later. Never gets old
Eats old Vietnam food from the 60's. LA Beast: Why am I getting War flashbacks.
