  • After a rough recovery after my last trip, this time I go for a familiar, easy hike. I hike into Lake of the Woods for a two night stay in a beautiful, shady camp. I do a small day hike to American Lake on day two.
I've got more videos coming... I wasn't able to hike most of the early season and now, I'm hiking so much that I'm finding it hard to find time to edit.

Enjoyed watching your transformations in this video....your campsite was just a beautiful spot....taking a hike on the 2nd day on no sleep turned out to be a great idea with great results.....kind of like walking around for awhile after a long plane ride....both cause you to sleep well and acclamate......and definitely keep that water flowing into you...love it...look forward to it...make it a habit....keeps all your systems going and organs running smooth....

Great to see you got out there again! The smoke from all the fires was terrible this summer! Only did one trip to Channel Lake in July and it was amazing. Hoping for more adventures from you this winter and next season!

Man that looks like a gorgeous campsite. Glad you got another trip in. I look forward to your videos. Take care and stay safe my friend. We are preparing for the typhoon about to hit the Philippines. Should only catch the outer bands of it.

I just read about that. Man, Philippines have been getting pounded in recent years! I'm heading up for another trip in the morning. Gonna be cold this time.

It's good to see you again after your hiatus. It didn't take you too long to discover the value of hydration. 😉 I often use sugar free drink supplements with electrolytes if I'm sweating a lot. The Mayo clinic says: "Too little potassium, calcium or magnesium in your diet can contribute to leg cramps."
Have you ever been to the two small lakes above Lake Sylvia?

No, I've never made it to those lakes - I'd like to one day...

Do you get cell service at Lake of the Woods? ATT?

    • @SacWildlife

no way - there is some cell service on the switchbacks above Tamarack lake, I've seen others using their phones there, but cell service is very very rare anywhere in desolation. I shut off cell reception as soon as I hit the trail - makes the battery go twice as long.

Thanks! Another great video. Not letting yourself ever get dehydrated in the key but hard not to do.
I like to use Caltopo.com when planning hikes. It was designed for Search and Rescue but is available for any one to use. You can layer the 2016 Forest Service topo map and Google Satellite and see all those body of water that you had to walk around going to American Lake that where not on the topo map. Here's a link. Not sure how long it will it will last. caltopo.com/map.html#ll=38.85455,-120.13027&z=16&b=sat&o=f16a%2Cr&n=0.46,0.32 In the right hand corner you can add new map layers and change percent visible. There are also some good Caltopo tutorials on UA-cam.
