I was exposed to asbestos while at Torrejón Air Base in 1992 while remolding old buildings on base, got back state side and commander had a meeting telling us we were exposed to Asbestos and probably much more crawling through the attics running electrical wires and repairs (I was an Interior electrician) ! I have been hospitalized twice for diverticulitis in the last 4 years and 2 scopes to confirm diverticulosis! I have had stomach issues for years but just blamed it on bad food! Filed a claim and they are fact gathering now!
Once I reached the 70% rating for PTSD, the VA either changes the terminology of my other claims I filed for or changes the dates of the injuries where no medical evidence can be found. I filed for GERD but they changed it from GERD to stomach ulcers. I recently received a decision letter on tooth loss that they stated is service connected but changed the terminology where I don't get a rating for it so they could deny me a 50% rating on my tooth loss. It is frustrating where I file these claims honestly and keep seeing 0% where they change my information on the claims.
I currently receive 30% for GERD and IBS, as I get older I have to have my throat stretched due to damage to my esophagus and I continue to have my teeth decaying due to the build up of acids? Should I submit for a higher %

HelloI have a question . i went to the doctor because i have a severe acid reflux for years . well i am waiting for my c&p exam and i filled for a secondary condition gastoesophageal reflux disease (Secondary) . the doctor did an endoscopy and the result was , competent cardia. Mild gastric antral vascular ectasia ( GAVE ) with mild erythema. in the conclusion says GAVA. well i would like to know if i should send the documets to va ? i search for more information and that condition is not good . i alsao would like to know the diffrence between gerd and gava conditions. My acid reflux makes me throw up two to three times a week and i feel my chest on fire . i would like to iknow if VA is going to look at this as gerd because my acid reflux its really bad . can some tell me if i should give the results i have to va? i am waiting for VA to call me for the C&P exam .
Does arthritis qualify as a secondary when you have a rating for ulcerative colitis. Uveitis and arthritis are giving me issues lately and my doctor said they are related to my UC
I'm service connected for GERD/IBS at 10% where does gastorpersis fit with server slow motility, pain , nausea and vomiting leading to diebetic gastorpersis
I currently got back 10% for gerd. But I have achalasia type 2. It’s constant pain throughout the day with nausea, chest pain, headaches, & cardio spasms. It completely alters my day. I can’t sleep at night due to “acid reflux”, I wake up with pain. I’m not able to eat properly. I’m not able to workout, I’m bloated every day wether I eat or don’t eat. I have to eat soft foods and regurgitate when I have solid foods. I’ve had a helper myotomy with fundoplication, and two pneumonic dialations. I don’t have hiatal hernias. I’m confused how this disorder can be rated only under gerd. My achalasia is what causes gerd. Any suggestions ?
Try secondary, I see you are complaining of headache get a diagnosis and write a lay statement, if your headaches force you to lie down once a month that could be a 30% claim
Sadly I hate meds but if I dont take mine I can regurgitation 2-3 times per week causing weakness and pain. And wake up with heart burn sometimes several time a night.

@mark708222, thanks for reaching out. Our office gets involved in the appeals stage of a claim, meaning we help once VA denies a claim. To file a claim we recommend working with a Veterans Service Organization (VSO), such as our colleagues at the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). They can be reached at (859)-441-7300
I submitted a claim for my Back, PTSD, GERD and Sleep Apnea. I just received a letter from the VA, denying the PTSD and Back portion. What does that mean for My issues with GERD and Sleep Apnea? (FYI, I have Hypertension that is at a 0% rating).
I would appeal. Also, go to your local Veterans Services and get assistance in resubmitting your appeal. Be sure to not let the deadline pass by. Also get documentations from your doctor.

Great info: does colon cancer fall under the MUCMI or Gastrointestinal disorders?
I have a 10 for gerd, going to apply for an increase. However if I claim the presumptive ibs will it be combined or a separate claim?
Are you suggesting that GERD is presumptive for Gulf War vets? I have seen some VBA cases where they denied presumption.

“0%” is still a rating, so now you can petition to have the percentage bumped up.
