I think what makes wearing a n4z1 uniform as part of a kink (at least in public) going way too far is that at least police uniforms have that degree of separation, you can look at a person in uniform and think ‘yes, this person isn’t actually police, they won’t beat me (without consent)’ and for some (more privileged people) the police uniform is a sign of safety
But with n4z1 uniforms there isn’t that degree of separation. The n4z1s were just n4z1s, there not much other connotations? And you can’t really 100% know if they disagree with those connotations. You can see a kinkster in police uniform and think ‘they’re not real police’ but you can’t really look at a kinkster in n4z1 uniform and KNOW they’re not an actual n4z1/neo n4z1
    (Just personal opinion of course!)

Regarding the „Nasty“ uniforms, some things can and should not be reclaimed.
I’m German and over here, all things “Nasty” are illegal for a reason.
And like Truebornseeker said, how can anyone be sure you’re just reclaiming it, now more than ever, with the right getting stronger by the minute, all over the globe.

I'm 1/4 German 1/4 Dutch and a mixture of Native American, middle East & Portugese (yep searched my own roots) . And I always search for the thing we all love mixing traditional kitchens & drinks. Than we find a base of peace.

I love to see people just wearing an insane cacophony of fetish gear comprising every conceivable kink. There is nothing more embarrassing than a dude coming up to you in fetish gear he bought at Spencer Gifts or hot topic. It's like how committed are you if you're not willing to invest in your look or your gear.

I find the 'nasty' uniforms problematic. However, those 'nasty' folks made some really great quality uniforms - the leather trench, the motocycle pants, the pins and patches ... some really aesthetically nice stuff. To bad they were such ... well, nasty.

OK Amp maybe an idea for an extra! When the photo of ladybeard was shown the reaction from the old guard was meh/no. Do you know that he is also many years active in show wrestling. He is in that business for many years, and in real life he is a cross dresser and de metal singer! (I'm a big fan)

56:35 If you got a picture of like Lucario, Gardevoir, or Lopunny costumes or cosplays, a certain segment of the your audience would have gotten a kick out of that. And a subset of that group would have also channeled their inner Paris Hilton and said “That’s hot.”

Thing is that the new generation has changed things a some in today's Leather community. I was born in 1961 and I learned different protocols and rules than today's younger Leathermen. We wore different uniforms than those of today's younger Leathermen. I think Race Bannon touched upon what Leathermen wore back when, on Twitter with a younger Leatherman.

I have to admit , looking at all of you , and especially you Kristopher, I always thought anyone who dressed in leather and with caps etc are mainly TOPS . it never occurred to me that subs would wear similar , but then I am a little naive when it comes to rules like that .

I like the full Leather gear from when I was in 20s, back early 1980s. I still dress this way today, I can't get into the lighter colored Leather, but if it works for others who I am to judge and I won't do that. I wear to attract those from my time since I like Leather boys/slaves in my age group and much older.

There were many parts of this debate which shied away from critical points to be discussed. Race raised many good issues but they weren't adequately explored, and were often steered away from. The whole tone of the debate seemed to be uncomfortable with actually unpacking some of the difficult aspects, falling back on lazy platitudes and jokes to deflect from the tough discourse.
One critical point that should be raised is "so what if someone is 'offended'" - as Race pointed out a couple of times, this 'offence' is little more than performance. They're offended because the culture says they should be, and to not be offended means you're "the wrong sort of person".
Should everything "offensive" be prohibited? Again, Race touched on this "self censoring", but was mostly ignored in favour of simple platitudinous statements agreeing that offense should always be avoided. I don't buy it - there is much that people do that could be deemed offensive, and yet we recoil in one direction only, in a simple knee-jerk fashion. Why not challenge this claim of "offence" more robustly?
Ultimately, with all uniform gear fetish - there are two components which need to be understood:
    1) The practice falls into roleplay. The gay guy wearing a cop uniform is not actually a cop. Regardless of the social realities of the actual police force - there is no praxis to oppression in wearing the uniform of that force. Saying "the people who wear that uniform are bad, therefore you must be a bad person too" or "that reminds me that these bad people exist" is a simplistic notion, yet it's thrown around with such authority that people who understand the distinction back down for fear of being told that they're bad people. This is wrong - the initial assertion MUST be challenged, as strongly as it is issued. Merely hiding the uniform away from the eyes of the "offended" doesn't magically make those people stop existing.
    2) It can be argued that the wearing of "problematic" gear for fetish and sexual reasons (or indeed any reason which is not the primary given one) is by its nature transgressive. The gay uniform fetishist is transforming the socially accepted role and function of the uniformed officer into one based entirely around sex - and gay sex at that. This transgression - which has long been a part of leather culture has been completely erased - although again, Race tried to explain some of this but it was largely ignored.
One interesting thing here is that one instance of "dressing up" was cited but given a speedy pass by the group: The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. To people brought up as Catholics, with negative experiences of nuns - you could argue that seeing people dressing up as the object of their childhood oppression would be "triggering".
And yet we don't interrogate or censure this practice. Why should that be? Why is it bad to dress as a cop, but not as a nun? There are both good and bad cops and nuns. This would be an interesting debate to have - is it perhaps to do with gender transgression, to do with the "demonisation" of male expressions of masculinity within the culture?
    Many missed opportunities.

Steve - so our show is called a Salon because that's what is. It is not meant to be an actual "debate". Sorry you felt that we missed some opportunities , so we are so glad you joined the "conversation" with your own personal view point.

@@OnGuardCigarSalonthese various episodes are great "scratch the surface" starters on many topics. I think they would be great for various groups to use where they maybe show an episode and then continue the discussion in their own group and expand the discussion and points raised (and maybe dodged) and broaden the conversation. You've never claimed to be doing a full academic exposé in these discussions, but I think they are brilliant for giving us potted histories and small personal insights onto many aspects of the kink community. Thank-you!!

As an African American male presenting individual if I see a police uniform on anywhere is a TRIGGER on my historical trauma. There is a group trauma when it comes to this uniform. It was never here to help us period ,but help maintain racist European and American polices that helps them maintain power.and oppress anybody that does not look and fit into there constructs. It's just sad and my reality and please stop letting the black guy in here speaking for black people. He is speaking from HIS POINT IF VIEW AND NOT FOR BLACK COMMUNITY GROUP THINK. HE SOUNDS LIKE HE STRUGGLES WITH HIS IDENTITY( RACE RELATED ISSUES). SMH GEEEEZZ. THE LAST COUPLE OF VIDEOS HE HAS NOT BEEN DOING WELL REPRESENTING BLACK WELL AT ALL IN MY OPINION.
