I am an Italian Alpino veteran, I am happy to see the smile of those who undertake difficult training at high altitude or in cold climates. This mutual experience is beautiful.
Aye! Cool to see Italians alpine troops and US troops learning how to ski better and cooperate. Alpini has got an ancient traditions of ski tecqnique and combat scenarios into the mountains. Salute!
Those skis are bad ass. I was 3/325 ABCT back in the late 80s and early 90s. We had the "death slabs" we used when training in Folgaria. Those stick on treads for the skis are genius! Outstanding training.
Happy to see our American allied friends in the Italian mountains together with our alpine troops.I belive there is a very close relationship between Italy and USA.❤👍👌🤝
Corvara Is the finest skying resort you can find, shame it is so late in the season and a bit too hot but hey it's fun anyway and you got trained by the best!
hi friend, excellent work with the Alpine troops, you are in Vicenza and we are very close, I am a soldier of the Serenissima lagoon regiment stationed in Venice, amphibious troops of the Italian army, whenever you want we are waiting for you to train together in an aquatic and lagoon environment. see you Soon
Okay...either the Italians are the best Instructors in the world...or those Third Herd boys have been skiing before...they looked experienced. Well Done Troopers.
Happy to see our American allies alongside our alpine troops in the Italian mountains! This is a testament to the strong bond between Italy and the USA.😍😍
Is this training pretty common for members of the 173rd? I’ve got airborne school and Italy in my contract as a first duty station and this looks like it would be a great experience
I have great memories of the military ski course. It was educational but a lot of fun as well. Did you guys also get to spend the night in the foxhole/snow cave?
Saluti dall'Italia. Altius Tendo.
What is the standard for the avalanche rescue test? The professional avalanche standard in North America is to locate and fully extricate 2 targets (typically snow-filled packs), buried at least 0.5m deep, in a 50x50m search area, in less than 7 minutes. Curious if the Italian army uses the same standard. It appeared that the instructor stopped the clock at a probe strike vs after extricating the target.
The parachutist is the wrong kind of soldier for mountaineering training, I hate to say. His operational planners will just want to helicopter him to altitude, and any climber knows this is a bad move. The Alpini are providing what seems to be the best ski mountaineering training I've seen - do this with other infantry.
hahah tell the truth guys... you went there for a vacation and to ski... not just for "the advanced course"... in the evening you went to the osteria to drink "grappa" or red wine and eat fresh bread with "soppressa" and cheese. 🤣🤣
You have to do that, plus Mountain climbing, Skying, Forest firefight...if you want to be an Alpino. I know that you'r army will only shoot and ruck, without care of the surrounded environment and it's tactical approach. Very "whatever nationality you are".
If serving in the military under the capitalist empire weren't 180° opposed to my material interests and moral convictions, this would be a pretty cool job.
