SGT Pous, you bring wisdom and tricks of the trade without the nonsense, showmanship and clickbait. Thank you for the clear, concise and informative videos. You will be remembered and looked at for knowledge for years to come.
THANK YOU 😃 I greatly appreciate your support and feedback! I teach in a way I would like to be taught. I like to be straight to the point and concise; no fluff. I will carry on in this manner because I deem it most effective.
Back in the 70's we always saved the safety pins and pinned them to our bush covers. In helicopter ops we would pin the cover lanyard to our collars so you wouldn't loose your cover to prop blast. We also carried them to use as a hasty method to close gaping flesh wound lacerations.
I’m glad you appreciate it! It’s something I wish NCO’s did for me. We’re here to pass on knowledge that was passed onto us. Problem is that when that chain is broken, newer NCO’s have less to work with. I’m trying to break that cycle. I hope this knowledge helps!
This is great stuff. Thank you for the great demonstration. In my years as a soldier, I feel not enough emphasis was placed on knowing the gear that was issued. I would read the manuals that were sometimes part of the issue, but I seemed to be one of few soldiers who did. All soldiers, regardless of MOS, should know the basics. Know ever adjustment and how versatile some of that stuff is.
This is exactly why I’m sharing this basic knowledge. You’re right, very few take the time to read the manuals to maximize the potential of their issued equipment. Hopefully sharing knowledge with these videos can help remedy this.
Just stumbled in off manifest- what a great channel! As a stale old "dirt dart" from the T-10 Alpha days (2Panther/Eighty Deuce) we did get suburb training back in the day. However, I must comment, how much better it would have been if we had UA-cam and a guy like SGT Pous to supplement our training. RESPECT!
Excellent video and information! I have several 6 Mag Bandoleers in the Woodland and Three-Color Desert camo patterns. The pouches won't snap closed with two Magpul PMags in them. To remedy this I had the flap covers extended. A friend modified his by installing a second cap and socket slightly below the first.
SGT Pous your videos are amazing. On a platform filled with wanna be tactical guntoobers just trying to sell stuff, you provide amazing real world expert advice on issues equipment. Keep up the great content! - Greetings from 2nd BDE 11th ABN
Thanks for your support! I believe our soldiers tend to overlook the real potential of our standard issued TA-50. Some spend money when instead they could make good use of the U.S. Army Standard Issue gear. Maybe all it takes is a new perspective and share of knowledge 😉
Will you be doing a video on what the medium ruck is capable of? Freaking love these video. Makes sense on why things are the way they are. Also nice to teach joes on these for range days or just better knowledge in the field
That is part of the plan. The medium has a few things going for it but not as much as the assault pack. I just have a bunch of other videos I’m working on first. Yeah exactly, quick nuggets of knowledge to throw to the Joes 👍🏼
Thanks for your feedback! I didn’t know as much until either until I started doing research. Lots to learn from a small topic huh? I didn’t mention that in Vietnam, they used 20 round magazines in the M3 bandoleer which had 7 pockets. Giving the soldier 140 rounds per bandoleer. Our current M8 (if not double stacked) has 4 pockets for the 30round mags so giving you 120 rounds. Pretty much same ball park of rounds.
Old Marine Sergeant here (prior to the 6 mag bandolier). Yes, we carried 20- rd mags like you illustrated. Frequently 21+1 mags and bandos with stripper clips. For a truck gun now, I use the 6-mang bando but I use 550 cord with sufficient length (tied to the left side) and I use a plastic loop and clip. The loop so I can adjust length and the clip to attach to the opposite loop. I carry the cord life you show and the cord through the top webbing for comfort. It works well. Thanks for the field demo.
Here’s a tip for snaps/ zippers. Iosso products (American made) makes a lube that keeps snaps from corroding, rusting shut. Used it on my duty gear for 15 years. Never had a snap freeze up. ( snaps used with leather cuff case , magazine pouch etc always corrode faster because of chemicals in the leather, it seems) if you go from rain/snow etc, to sun, those snaps are going to corrode/ rust shut. Just makes it easier to maintain your gear and the snaps won’t pull off/through the material.
As a salty old Marine NCO, you tough this old Devil Dog a new trick . I've been trying to figure out the New Fangled Mollie Elbe Gear. All we had in the 1980s was LC2 and Alice packs and M16-A1'S. Heck, we even had some Vietnam War era. Gear issued for the aggressor teams . There is nothing like running through the training area bush (Camp Pendleton) in Black dyed hospital scrubs and wearing canvas web gear with you hind end flopping the breeze.😅
Cool to see some of the new fandangled gear. I was in back in the 80's and all we had was the LBE's and alice packs. If it didn't fit in the med or small alice pack ...."We didn't need it" is how I was explained it by our Platoon Sergeant. Good times!!!!

From one Sgt to another (Irish Defence Forces, Infantry). Well done. very informative and exactly what we should be doing as NCO's. Any chance you could do videos on how you pack the MOLLE 4K and/or the Assault pack for say, 24-72 hours? Looking to compare to how we do it and see if I can learn anything new. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Thanks and Sláinte.
I appreciate your feedback! That’s something I want to do actually. I was thinking about taking some leave days to do a video on that. All depends on time available tbh. That’s a good recommendation! Thanks 😃👍🏼
BTW, the 6 mag bando holds 3 bx25 mags nice and comfy for your plinky varminty needs. LOL That friendly and encouraging Hot Shots Part Deux smile at the end of "I hope your future ammo resupply goes well."
SGT Pous, Great Video!! I was really hoping you could make a video on how to properly reframe your large rucksack after you get your name stitched on. It something I struggled with when I first got to the unit and still don’t know if I did it properly, as well as all the attachments that go on the rucksack. If it’s not too much trouble, it would also be great if you could make another video on how you would configure your large rucksack or medium rucksack for a 6-12 mile ruck march, again great video and thank you for all the help.
Hey! Here’s the video I used on UA-cam on how to assemble the Molle II rucksack: Type “Army rucksack assembly” 😉 ua-cam.com/video/QpVQn5-_Tw8/v-deo.htmlsi=c0UJxeGzvInq1IPh
7 years in the Infantry and this entire video had me going "What the fuck?!" Turns out all that stuff is useful and not just something I should throw in a duffel and forget about until CIF asks for it back! Gotta say tho - as a bald dude? Dig the hair style! Gotta recommend to your barber!
Good shit, Brother!!! I actually learned something from this video. I've been talking about the M8 Bandolier and the way they can go into speedball for years. Also, I've never heard different classes for speedball! Awesome video
Thank you Sgt Pous. You make it look good. You're putting out Great videos, you should be like a spokesman for the Army or maybe even have an Action figure made of You. No Homo, I was in the Navy during the Ronnie Reagan years. Can you put out some Ranger bebroll videos featuring Woobie and rain poncho tip n tricks?
Fantastic content thank you so much! For a while I ran the six mag bandolier as an improvised chest rig. Similar to the way that you demonstrated wearing it on your chest. It's obvious that this was at least in part a design consideration given the tabs on the bottom corners. It would have been much improved if the designers had used velcro on the flaps instead of buttons. A lot of your other use cases and configurations I hadn't thought of so thank you so much for sharing!
This is some good shit man. I had no idea that the bandoleer and assault pack were intended to go together. I bet all this stuff is all written down in a manual somewhere, but there is just so much army literature that nobody can hope to process and retain. All of the real knowledge is passed down by high performers like you.
By the way, I didn't see the stripper clip guides in the video. I have also seen videos of troops loading mags by hand (single rounds). Has Uncle stopped putting the guides in all the bandoliers? So much faster with the guides. The safety pins are great for field uniform repairs when something rips. Always had two extra in my gear. Thanks😊
Yes the Speed Loaders (or Spoons) are still there! Not in every M8 Bandoleer. They’re always found in the far left pocket of the bandoleer. I didn’t feel the need to talk about it because that would be the focus of another video. Same for the M3 bandoleer from Vietnam that had 7 pouches to fit 20 round Magazines. I could’ve mentioned it but didn’t want to make the video too long.
Hi Pous, nice to see new video. I would add one thing - the six mag molle II bandoleer is a really tight fit for military stanag magazines. Wider, popular magpul pmags or lancers (and similar) will fit inside, but unable to close and secure. But nothing what adding a second snap fastener or bit of velcro wouldn't fix. I would also like your comment on having loaded magazines in the assault pack front pocket. IMHO it would be better to have the snap fasteners inside the main pack, perhaps bit slower to deploy, but maybe double the load, and more importantly, closer to the human body. And use front pocket for lighter things, like rain jacket, or perishables, e.g. MRE,
I personally always loved the 6 mag bandoleer. Used them in position 2 and 3 (with 550 cord) many times on my OIF/OEF deployments. Tothis day I keep a few around the house just incase..... Too bad they have the snap in the wrong place and won't latch with 2 Magpul PMags in the pockets, which is what Marine Corps issues currently.... We were taught all about the features of the old M8 on the rifle range in Boot Camp (1995 for me) but I was surprised in 2003 during the invasion how many troops didn't understand how they worked.... must have gotten dropped in boot camp and not picked up in SOI (at least by the Marine Corps)... This is good knowledge for young troops. Thx for not letting it get lost Sgt.
It’s very basic knowledge which is a simple added value for our soldiers in my opinion 😉👍🏼 Thank you for sharing your experience and supporting my efforts 😃
Dude, the army needs to just put you in charge of making tutorial videos to go on some variation of ArmyPubs or something. So much of the Infantry's knowledge/TTP's is just passed down through generations of NCO's, and its really easy for that chain to break and for this knowledge to be lost for decent portions of the force (especially in non-light units).
You’re completely right about the broken chain of knowledge passed down. A lot of people hold that knowledge to themselves because they want to look good when the moment arises that they can flex that knowledge. It’s like that everywhere. Knowledge is power. As an NCO, I deem it important to develop all of our soldiers. We can always be better.
I appreciate this awesome demonstration of issued gear. My brother is a junior soldier in thr 82nd, and I'm goint to send this to him. Im a bit worried about his and his peer's attitude towards issued stuff, as hes always asking me about or buying aftermarket stuff like crye and other expensive mag pouches. As for me, a Corpsman in the Marine infantry, I always thought most of what we got was just fine.
I appreciate your feedback 👍🏼 There generally is a culture to overlook issued gear. But I believe we can maximize its potential and make better use of it by digging into the TM and learn all that there is to know. I’m a naturally curious guy so I research and play around w the equipment to find creative solutions not necessarily found in the TM. I figured I would compile everything I learned into a video for others to benefit from my findings. But you’re right, issued gear is undervalued. Sometimes soldiers deem it more important to “Look cool”.

As for me, a Corpsman in the Marine infantry, I always thought most of what we got was just fine.
I appreciate your feedback 👍🏼
There generally is a culture to overlook issued gear.
Sgt Pous, what size bungee is that?
Great knowledge transfer, thank you for sharing.
That’s what I’m trying to do! Share knowledge. I want our men and women to become better at their craft.
@@pousinboots the true hallmark of a man who has mastered his craft is passing that knowledge along rather than gatekeeping. Keep up the good work, thank you for your service💯🇺🇸
@@IPWNUinRL I completely AGREE. Can’t stand gate keepers. Usually reflects a lack of competence in my eyes. The Spotlight Ranger.
