Boy Meets World was not really a progressive show, and gayness was often a punchline. But something I thought was super interesting was how Eric was portrayed in the episode where he and Jack cross-dressed. Like, yeah, everyone else made fun of him for it, but Eric was super comfortable and in touch with his femininity and it was shown in a way that, even if it was a joke to everyone else, it wasn't to him. He took it really seriously and was shown to even have a sense of comfort in being able to honestly display his emotions. Also the presentation in this video is 10/10 haha very great job
It wasn’t very progressive in nowadays standards, or even just excluding the progression in gender and sexuality. BUT! It did have a lot of progression in things like transracial relationships and 90’s culture.
I think the only reason the show DIDN’T make them gay is because if they did it probably wouldn’t be allowed to air on tv, so they tried to drop as many hints as possible without actually being too suspicious lol

Seriously, their "friendship" was a missed opportunity. They had the potential to try again in Girl Meets World but for some reason the network canceled the show.

I agree with the overall premise (and a show on TGIF wouldn't have had an openly gay main character in the 90s so they would have had to hide it), but that joke about his first time was the beginning of a lesson and wasn't actually in reference to his first time.
