Btw, there is a removable cylindrical filter screen element you should also clean, located at the very rear and bottom of the trans

Great reminder! Yes I forgot to mention that you should also clean that transmission filter too. I didn't do it on my car this time because I had already cleaned the filter a few hundred miles ago.

great stuff, really like the head shield idea, Maybe a tip for your tip,, best practice to loosen the fill plug before the drain plug in case it is stuck and you've already drained the fluid.

Yes, that's a good tip! Thank you for mentioning it. I make it a practice to loosen the fill plug before I loosen the drain plug.

Thanks for content, keep it coming. My 2007's 1st to 2nd has always been a bit snaggy, especially at lower rpms. I've done tranmission oil change, linkage adjustment and clutch fluid change and bleed. I suspect the selector forks have bent over time from previous owners and because its not been maintained as per your video. I've actually gotten used to it over my 4 years of ownership and I've developed a knack to get smoother shifts, but when its time to replace the clutch, i'll have the transmission rebuilt. Thanks from a fellow R8 V8 owner in Scotland!

Ouch, yea sounds like the cables were not annually adjusted. Hope you will find a competent person to rebuild the transmission in Scotland!

Fantastic idea with the heat shield and great tip on adjusting shift cables. Can you make a video for how we can access these components i.e. what we have to remove etc?

Hey Henry, to access the shift cables, all you need is to remove the airbox from the car and you'll be able to go in and adjust from there.

Any symptoms that will tell that the shift cables are out of adjustment? 30k miles in my v10 and I’ve never done it. Shifts smooth as butter anyways so It never occurred to me till I came across your video

When you're having trouble shifting into a gate, that's when you need to adjust. I recommend you do it annually to minimize premature wear on the forks and synchros.
