The vibes from the other albums have been Vaguely Gay, but this song has stepped up to Blatantly Gay and I am here for it.
October and Shallow river too are pretty blatantly gay i'm living for it
It's never been quite clear to me the level of gay of this band but it's been getting higher by the day
Their music always screams wearing a flowy white dress and riding a horse in a foggy forest whilst chasing your forbidden lesbian lover type vibe to me
I'm not the only one, hell yeah.
Lol apparently almost all things I like give off a gay vibe
I guess I can say

i love how they’re going through liking any comment that has anything relating to gay in it. its like the crane wives are screaming “WE’RE SO BI, OK??? PLEASE NOTICE!!!” and it’s absolutely wonderful (also this song is fantastic
What can we say? It feels good to be seen
Because is a merch, and it has a great mass of people looking for "social aprobation" for this kind of content.

a band that's anti-capitalist and has sapphic songs? i may have found my new obsession!
the way i got hearted.... im so happy ehehehe
Something i found interesting is comparing the 0:24 frame to the finished picture (4:12) . The lineart makes it look like curly hair is smiling while as the pic progresses, she gets more tired and apathetic looking. Probably just me overthinking but i found that interesting none the less
These fine ladies seem like quite good friends. I do wonder what sort of platonic tomfooleries they surely get up to in their free time, as two very good platonic friends tend to do.
Just two gals bein' pals 🌈
Oh my god they’re roommates/ref
The crane wives really said sapphic rights and I’m so here for it (also “she lights cigarettes like lanterns for the darkness in my head” is so beautiful it keeps coming back to me even after I listened to the song)
Said Sapphic rights and Sapphic wrongs
The Crane Wives went from the band that occasionally appeared in my recommended under the twilight sky as the owls sang, calling out to me, beckoning, from the woods beyond my frosted window to my favourite band ever in the span of a few months. They have literally everything I ask for. Fantastic guitar and bass? Check. Amazing drum work? Check. Vocals that are legitimately out of this world? Check. Lyrics that are twisted like gnarled branched when you listen to them? Check. Gay vibes for my gay soul? Check. Check. Check. The only thing they don't have the fame they deserve because, damn. Then again, they're a fun little secret I can share with my friends, which is always fun.
I want to frame this comment, thank you for your kind and beautiful words ❤️
OHHhhhh the sapphic vibes of this cover..... impeccable...
Lmao I immediately checked the comments to see whether someone called it out, I am not disappointed 🏳️🌈✨
and they were best friends-
this is a cover? who's the original by?
@@corvicore6813 Oh I meant the cover art!! This is an original song by them :D
It’s what made me get into this type of music, I really like being represented in such a beautiful way.
"Ha! Gay," I say while setting up a neon arrow to point directly at my head with the words 'THIS GIRL IS A HOMOSEXUAL' written above in bright green sharpie.
gorgeously homoerotic art
me listening this song
My sister: Hey, your gay is showing-
Gay aside this is easily the best vocal performance by you and its a real ride up and down back and forth (much like the tempo of a quarrel ;)) you guys are in the poetry buisness i tell ya
Apparently a lot of my friends associate this band with major sapphic forest deity vibes and as a sapphic forest deity, I agree wholeheartedly.
Omg they're back I can't wait
My sapphic heart is already pleased
This is probably one of my favorite of y’alls songs just because it hit me at the exact right point in my life, leaving/being in an incredibly painful and toxic sapphic relationship is a topic that isn’t really something you see covered in a lot of media for sure! I still feel shrimp emotions listening to this even a year later, and might’ve cried an embarrassing number of times just in how seen it made me feel. The ending especially hits me, and I’m just incredibly thankful. The art is fantastic too, I love the speedpaint!
Why are so many of my favorite songs about abusive/toxic relationships? Like is everyone okay??
Me too. Honestly, it's gotta be the fact that, I feel like in a lot of abusive relationships the abuser tries to make the victim think that this is love, this is normal, there is nothing wrong. Since I can only guess this song is supposed to be in the perspective of the victim, the victim doesn't outright state that anything is wrong until you get to the part where it's sang, "what doesn't hurt a little bit,", and it's a detail a lot of people's brains probably don't pick up on.
me as a car seat headrest fan 🥴
because drama is fun
Im addicted to this song
But then again I'm addicted to every crane wives song-
*Can relate to that.*
honestly though😩
LYRICS:
She woke me up at dawn
Soft spoken as a spider
Spinning webs of holy words while she was still asleep
Kill the moon beneath my window
Pull the covers tighter
And hear her voice go swinging like a hatchet through the trees
There’s a shadow at the back door
Somethings moving in the shed
She lights cigarettes like lanterns
For the darkness in my head
Nobodies ever loved me
Ever loved me
Nobodies ever loved me like she tells me she does
Ooh (many oohs and ahs)
Tender as a bruise
Sharper than a razor
Wrap her tentacles around me like she’ll never let me go
Her fury shakes the rafters
But never in my favor
I’m trembling in the eye of the only storm I’ve ever known
The keys are in the back door
Somethings wailing in my chest
It eclipses every siren
And these sins that she’s confessed
Nobodies every loved me
Ever loved me
Nobodies ever loved me
So she tells me
Nobodies ever loved me
Nobodies ever loved me
Nobodies ever loved me like she tells me she does
I should be counting blessings
Something is better than nothing
Isn’t it isn’t it isn’t it
It’s close enough to perfect
Why does it hurt a little bit
A little bit
A little bit
Nobodies ever loved me
Never loved me
Nobodies ever loved me
Like she loves me
Nobodies ever loved me
Ever loved me
Nobodies ever loved me
Like she tells me she does
Something's moving in the shed
@@bestbi3587 thanks!

God the vocals in this one are so gorgeous,,,, i absolutely adore this song, it's honestly really underrated
The song combined with the art is just so beautiful!
:O Natalie Reed? I'm slightly awestruck of seeing your name here, after having read several of your (albeit old) blog posts on gender and feminism and having liked them a lot!
(The Null Hypothecis or How do I know if I'm trans being among the first coming back to my mind considering that they specifically helped me, but I'm clearly digressing from this video)
Leaving aside how freaking beautiful and cool the song is, I want to say that my respects to Emilie, not only does she play and sing beautiful along with Katie, but also Emilie is very talented with her art and her handling of the gray scale and anatomy. I wonder if Emilie has a social network where she uploads her art? I would love to see more of her drawings!
im just gonna....listen to this music until i fell asleep
someone described my musical tastes recently as 'southern gothic feminine revenge soundtrack'? So thank you!
the crane wives said cottagecore sapphic rights!!! beautiful as always
This song is literally so perfect I whistle it every time I take a shower and is easily in my top 5 right now
I wish I could whistle :(
@@jacobwood4937 me too lmao
Two thumbs shining dimly through the gaslight
Between this and Tongues and Teeth I love the vaguely threatening Sapphic vibes I get
alright every time I come back to this song to cry/vibe I will comment, so this time I choose to point out the art???? the crazy talent??? holy shit??
Groove baybe
Giving me ribs vibes I'm so ready ya'll
So this is maybe a bit of an obscure reference, but this song really reminds me of the relationship between Asra and Ina at the beginning of the book Inkmistress.
FUCK YES THAT WAS WHAT I WAS THINKING OF I COULD NOT REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE BOOK THANK YOU JESUS
So I definitely feel like the lyrics support this being a song about an abusive relationship. However, if you're in a mood where you're feeling unloved, unlovable, and/or undeserving of love, that chorus of "NOBODYYYEEEEEYYYYY EEVER LOVED ME, EEEEVERR LOVED ME" just slaps so hard.
I feel like this song and Tongues & Teeth are for the same relationship
My interpretation of some of the Crane Wives songs:
Curses - Abuser trying to seduce someone to abuse
Tounges & Teeth - Self aware abuser or someone who has been abused and thinks it has ruined them (depends on interpretation) trying to convince someone who loves them to stay away.
Never Love an Anchor
- Self aware abuser or someone who just feels like are "an anchor" and would weigh someone down reminisces how they avoided being intimate with someone they loved to avoid sinking them with a (according to them) bad relationship.
Nobody - Someone in an abusive relationship with a Gaslighter, also aparently her first relationship going by the line about the storm.
Strangler Fig - Someone stuck in an abusive relationship, but has finally had enough and is leaving their abuser who is taking advantage of them.
Pretty Little Things - A survivor of an abusive relationship recounting how the experience has taught her to be weary of people trying to seduce her with pretty little things. Also gives good advice whilst refuting some common sexist takes on female abuse victims.
@-Lavender Soap- Maybe it's just me but i don't necessarily think that Know how is depicting an abusive relationship, at least not like pretty little things or tongues and teeth, to me it's just that the singer still loves her significant other but it's not reciprocal anymore and she is struggling to forget them
Me listening to this:is this a caring relationship or is it a bit problematic
Good question.
I mean in the art one of the women actually has a knife to the others chest.
@@chloe6334 Don't kinkshame me
it's pretty clearly abusive
@@ghostkill221 lmao
A comment to appease the algorithm because this is brilliant.
you guys are so unbelievably talented- i found you a few months ago and i already know that you're gonna be my most played artist of 2020 on spotify :')
Is no one going to comment on the video length?
Okay, so no one else is talking about this, so I may be going crazy, but is it just me or these lyrics are about an abusive relationship?
Let me explain myself.
"She woke me up at dawn
Soft spoken as a spider
Spinning webs of holy words while she was still asleep"
The woman is compared to a spider and her "webs" are made of "holy words" which leads me to suspect she's a sweet talker.
"Kill the moon beneath my window
Pull the covers tighter
And hear her voice go swinging like a hatchet through the trees"
The poetic self compares the woman's voice to a hatchet through the trees, and a hatchet's purpose is to cut trees down.
"There’s a shadow at the back door
Somethings moving in the shed"
I think this means that something is wrong, the presence of a "shadow" and that something is hidden in the shed, but still moving.
"She lights cigarettes like lanterns
For the darkness in my head"
This is does sound romantic, but cigarettes are not a really positive image.
"Nobody ever loved me
Ever loved me
Nobodies ever loved me like she tells me she does"
This sounds like something a manipulator would say, that no one has loved their partner like them.
"Tender as a bruise
Sharper than a razor"
Now this sounds... violent. Why is the woman compared to a bruise and a what is said to be "sharper than a razor"?
"Wrap her tentacles around me like she’ll never let me go"
Again, this sounds abusive to my ears. The woman seems like she'll never let the poetic self go, and that doesn't paint a good picture.
"Her fury shakes the rafters
But never in my favor
I’m trembling in the eye of the only storm I’ve ever known"
The poetic self talks about the woman's fury and that it never goes in her favor.
Now the chorus again:
"Nobodies every loved me
Ever loved me
Nobody ever loved me
So she tells me"
The woman literally told the poetic self that nobody ever loved her. I don't think that can happen in any healthy relationship.
"I should be counting blessings
Something is better than nothing
Isn’t it isn’t it isn’t it
It’s close enough to perfect
Why does it hurt a little bit
A little bit
A little bit"
Now the poetic self is doubting. She says she should be "counting blessings" as in being grateful, and that "it" (probably the relationship) "is close enough to perfect. Yet she stills asks why does it hurt. She admits that the relationship is hurting her.
Still, if one does not stop to think about this, it does sound like a romantic love song! And I think that's the genius here. People in abusive relationships often don't realize that it's not okay, that they shouldn't be going through that. Here the poetic self is expressing her relationship and her suffering while still having a romantic layer on top, so the first impression is that it's a healthy relationship, but once one looks closer, it turns out not to be.
At least that's how I'm seeing it.
I missed the stream, rip. Sounds really good though.
If this is live then holy shit yall hit just as hard live
yes, it's from their live album!! they go so hard
Sweet merciful fuck that blew me away. Outstanding

aww what a cute little gay love song
wait what do you mean "so she tells me?"
**concern**
I figured that there must be some truth to the absolute bi energy radiating from the music this band produces.
Oh, I fucking love this song, I always love that kind of rough voice she has. It strangely has some kind of feeling in it.
i have had this song in LITERALLY ALL OF MY PLAYLISTS for years it is SO perfect and i RELATE TO IT TOO MUCH AAAAGAGHHHHHHHH

This is one of my favorites!! Can't wait!
I love this band! The groove on this song is great! Saludos desde Colorado!
Is it just me or does this song have big Fleetwood Mac _Rumours_ energy? In the best possible way.
This song has a nice subtle erotic feel it kind of grabs your mind & body. The weave between the guitars & vocals on this track reminds me of something that was spawned during the mid 1970's era but I can't recall what. None the less it's one Very Lovely Creative Biscuit !
THIS IS JUST TOXIC YURI; THE SONG
This was perfect and amazing, Thank you for created this music :')
Every time I listen to this I think of the woman who abused and gaslit me for 8 years.
