Hey bro, the car has to warm up in order to measure the oil level, also if u stop the engine and start it after a few mins, you have to give it some time, just a couple of mins to measure the oil level. So the exclamation goes away for a lil bit if u stop the engine. The e60 alwas tells when ur oil level is going low. Look at the i drive "info sources menu", u can always see where ur oil level is even b4 it gives you any warning,,after driving it for at least 10 mins.I have an e60 myself. Also always carry a quart of oil with you.

Very simple fix my friend. You either have a faulty oil level sensor and it is giving you the incorrect oil level measurement, or 2 you have an actual oil leak. If there is oil spots underneath your car, go to the shop and see where the leak is originating from. Your next option would be to have a complete drain and fill, and monitor the underside of the car and check for oil, let it warm up to operating temperature then leave it in your driveway. This will give you the most clear answer
When you go to the store buy some WD-40 for that door that has been screaming to get fix for the last 2 years LOL

My F30 has the same thing. When it tells me my oil is low, I usually park it on a flat surface add about 1/3-1/2 a quart, measure and add a little more if it is still not at the maximum line. It's much easier to add oil than it is to drain oil.
The first couple of versions of iDrive are pretty crappy.

Blown valve seals. When the oil is new and thinner it will leak alot more than when its older. You can thicken it with viscosity modifiers. The sensor is relatively accurate and when it hits the 1qt low message you add about 3/4 maybe a little less. It does have a dipstick. The sensor and message wont refresh until about 5 min passes by. They sell a seal product on amazon that might bandaid it for a while. Next will be smoke from your tailpipe, failing o2 sensors, etc. Shell out the 4k to 8k to fix it and move on.

Hey AutoVlog, I don't have a m5 but I asked some mechanics we know and they all agree that the e60 m5 cars require 0w- 40 oil because its thinner and can lubricate the rob bearings much faster and better compared to the bmw spec 10w- 60 oil because how thick it is which could resistant your camshaft and takes longer to lubricate the rod bearing in which heats up the engine much faster. Keep up the excellent videos.

AWESOME video man. Lambo/Ferrari stare down AND bark, wife smooth take off in v10 after not driving manual in a while, italian friend with german car, adorable kid learning gas station... everything. DAMN good video!
A tip from an E60 M5 owner: measure your oil level when the car is at operating temperature by longpressing the BC button and letting go. Measure 3 times. If the car is around 0.0 liter up to 0.2 liter, add about half a quart or approx 0.5 liter of oil. The car is ONLY able to measure differences of 0.5 liters and up. Now remeasure the oil level 3 times. If the level is between 0.5 - 1.0ltr you are good to go.
PS. If you have really overfilled with oil, there is a quick fix: on the passenger side, in front of the front wheel, the oil filter is located under a plastic mudguard. Remove this triangular mudguard. You will see the oil filter housing and a allen screw in the middle. Release the screw and drain a littlebit of oil, retighten the screw, start the car, measure the oil level, until you get to the right level.
Sidney’s theory: BMW is a hoopty compared to the Ferrari. 😂
A oil thirsty hooptie.
U should get an after market regular dip stick
If they make those idk🤷🏽♂️
There is nowhere to put a dipstick or at least there isn't in my M135i.

Now this is a common issue sometimes when you drive too hard in my case the oil level shows too low but as the car cools down the idrive would show you the exact oil level and mostly it would be somewhat in the middle so you can try adding about 500ml but dispite all small issue bmw's are the best cars to drive the sheer torque is amazing, love your content long time supporter🚘😍

So true. Nothing but issues with this thing. It looked great on the side of the road and my driveway during my 4 months of ownership of an 09 M5.

Tip for oil, if it says low, add like 1/4 Q or 1/2 Q then drive around and see what it says later. I love my E92, but the electronic dipstick is just plain dumb!
Hey Mike, I had a 2012 BMW X5 Diesel and it indicated in the manual it was all electronically monitored as well, but I finally found the dipstick hidden on the left side of the motor block. I am not sure if the E 60 does have that, but BMW does not advertise that if it does. Worth taking a look and it should be relatively easy to change the oil.

Only poorly maintained ones sit in the garage all time, I'd love to see someone daily dog any other V10 with bare minimum maintenance and never have it break down.
@@xelad6159 Exactly, most people who have problem after problem with their cars aren't maintaining them properly.
Auto Manufacturers put maintenance schedules in the owners manual for a reason.
I am honestly more excited for this M5 than any other of your cars, such a clean machine
With the oil dipstick readout on the dash. 1.0 equals full and proper. 0.5 means you have burned half a liter and 0.0 means it is time to fill up with a liter of oil. The readout can also go negative just so you know. When filling the car up with oil always do about half a liter and let the car determine the amount that it has before filling up with the rest of the liter. Also, buy the bmw oil storage pouch so you also have a liter of 10w-60 in the trunk of the car at all times for road trips and other things. Also, I noticed that you put the key into the ignition to start the car. If the car has every option like you said it should have comfort access which means you can enter the car by grabbing any of the 4 handles and don't need the key in the ignition to start the car. You can also lock the car using the door handles.
Prolly bought the car for content cause he gets the most views on repair vids

I bet you need valve seals and/or PCV valves. That’s very common in bmw’s.
You would see the smoke from the valve guide seals. Usually after sitting like at a red light

Love the car, specifically because its a manual but i hope you like the cost of maintaining it...$$$$$ All M car awesome but not reliable...
Oh wow look at your profile a reliable fast gs350, is it AWD TOO haha
I have a e60 myself (non M) and i would advise to sticking with underfilling with oil when its low because their oil level sensors glitch all the time. Sometimes the car is 2qts low on oil and I add 1qt and it shows full.
Where in Pittsburgh do you get your paint protection film installed?
Just keep wifey out of the vlogs. She brings every good vibe down.

Great car! I HAD one also. That light will go off all the time just get used to it. That particular engine is known to drink oil at an alarming rate. Even if it is over filled it will normalize after a few hundred miles. Don't worry about it too much and enjoy it for a year and sell it. The car has tons of character even with all its unreliability. Enjoy!
I’ve worked on BMW’s for a while, and it’s become apparent that vacuum leaks from the air intake can cause the car to burn oil over time. Once you make sure your intake vacuum hoses are in check then you shouldn’t be burning any at all. Leaks are another issue though haha, good luck with those. Cheers on the M5
Welcome to BMW ownership!
This is why i stick with Acura's.
A BMW with a electrical glitch?
Never heard of that before....
Heh heh
Your driveway is slightly inclined upwards, thats what made the reading show 1.5 high.
Oil gathering at the back of the sump from the incline and giving a higher reading, you need to check on a level surface and after the car was warmed up and been sitting for at least five minutes so some of the oil in the system drains back down to the sump.
I think with the engine turned off.

my 2010 e63 650i has that no dipstick crap. When i first bought it, it was doing that oil level jumping but since doing a couple of oil changes it has calmed down with over exaggerating what the oil level is.
Had electronic oil checks for a few years now Mercedes C class and BMW 530 without problems so hope yours is easily fixed?
Never buy a car without a dipstick..they're just setting you up for expensive dealer visits.
Oh geez...soooooo tru. 😂
Anything more ridiculous than replacing the dipstick with some electronic sensor?
Yeah "lifetime" trans fluid haha
20,000 mile oil filters.
And an unreliable sensor at that.
Dip sticks were originally for the fuel, not the oil. People would flip their lids if their car didn't have a fuel gauge.
I can think of a few things: putting plastic oil and transmission pans on a car--Mustang GT/Shelby.
There are still so many days to look forward to. ROCKA RUCK!
Mike we have 5 BMWs including 2 M cars. The sensor for oil level is in the bottom of the oil pan. If you drain the oil the sensor is easy to change and not that expensive.
