Actually it's older than 96, it's like anywhere between 1993 to 1995. I don't remember exactly, but it wasn't 1996. It may have been 1994 or 95 though. But you're right, it was from microtac.

The first mark/generation of the MicroTAC would have been used in that film. You can clearly see it's a flipper phone and there's at least 2 individual units used by at least 2 characters.
