I just read a comment on another song (Part of the Plan ) that said " his voice is like finding an old love letter in a box of memories ". I thought that was awesome...
Wow, now this is the kind of artist I love and respect for his values, his beautiful spirit, and the quality of music he produced. What a FABULOUS Artist. His music was soulful and reached the innermost part of so many people. Sadly, you don't see this kind of character and integrity anymore in the entertainment world. We miss you and the beauty you brought into this world through your music...
What a great guy and such valid points. He has a following that understands his music and philosophy. Those are his true fans. Thanks for impacting my life is a very positive way. The world needs more people like Dan Fogelberg.
Dan Fogelberg had such depth and character and dimension, he made it safe for men to love women and allow themselves to be vulnerable....music today promotes hatred and negativity and trashing women, it permeates throughout our culture... You are so loved and so missed Dan, thank you for your wonderful music and making life better for so many....
I really feel in many repects Dan Fogelberg was an Epic Human Being!!! He's so genuinely Inspirational on so many levels in such Beautiful Ways!!! Beautiful of Mind, Body and Spirit!!!
Awe it's good to see him smile, with a twinkle in his eye. (0:46) she caught him a bit off-guard I think. RIP dear friend, you gave us so many blessings!
Thank you for sharing this. What a beauty he was, inside and out. His lyrics and his voice are burned in my memory. I've been listening and adoring since 1972 and Souveniers
Remembering today 16-12-11.... Dan Fond memories Of the Guitarist Everyone Loved; Balladeer Extraordanaire. Regretfully Gone..................but not forgotten
I can't believe he is gone. He was a great musician. Equally talented on the guitar and the piano. I saw him doing at a solo concert and he was fantastic.
I loved this entire very short interview ! Your right, as Dan did so well, he made himself the observer within many of his songs and not always the participant, even though most of his songs were autobiographical.
I wanted to 'thumbs up' all these great comments but I guess they're too old! What the...?!? Anyway - I was fortunate to see Dan once in concert. Thank you for uploading this brief interview. It adds to my scrapbook, if you will!
I remember hearing a radio interview of Dan in 1984. Funny I was just thinking about what he said about the imagination in your head. I still remember the first time in a parking lot of a condo in Rockville. And that sadness of having your heart broken. If the song were video, you would be an observer and not a participant, which is why his songs tugs at your heart so much--it's not about Dan--it's about you.
love this interview, shows some of the beautiful old fashion values Dan has. It was very interesting what he said about music videos, I never really thought of it that way, but what he says makes perfect sense, a song's imagery should be left to the listener's imagination. Thank you for sharing this interview.
Thank you hardly seems enough to say, and yet that is what wells to my heart. It was such a joy to see this video/interview with Dan. It reinforces why DanFans are exactly that. Hugs and Merry Christmas to you.
Dear...zannadyke...Can this REALLY be the only thing you have to "wonder" about this brilliant man? A short simple answer for you..he fell in love! I don't know how old you are but for those of us that grew up with Dan, a true romantic, we know things don't always work out, but go for it anyway! Thank God, before he died, Dan did meet AND marry the love of his life...we should ALL be so lucky!
Dan was brilliant....not many performers could carry a whole show with just themself and a guitar and keep the audience mesmerized.. Nowadays, seems artists need to have a gimmick or at least a dance troup accompaniment to keep the audience interested. Dan had a way about him that drew you in and made you think he was singing your song--to you. Love the tone and quality of his voice--lots of emotion. Just one heck of a talented guy--sad he was passed so young.
Great to see this interview, but the forgotten chick with the super-shellacked hair was as dumb as a box of her own discarded clippings. Dan was never “out of step.” Not even in the early part of the 1980s. His place in the industry shifted, for sure, but he continued making superb, well-received music on his *own* terms. No major label artist expects to spend their entire lifetime in the very thick of the game. If an artist has five productive years in their genre, it’s rare-then and now. Dan had 25+ years with a well-cultivated and deserved fanbase, strong record sales way past his “prime” and, even better, a sterling reputation as a live, touring performer that other acts would beg to have. With his packed catalogue of beloved hits and his excellent “live performance” ethic, he sold-out arenas from 1975-2005. People who disparage Dan Fogelberg or who categorically dismiss him as “light rock” are not only missing the point, they are missing substance in their own souls. It’s one thing to say, “His music wasn’t the style I preferred” but quite another to say “He was so corny.” Those are the words of snide, pretentious fakes who pose at parties with cigarettes, jaundiced alkie-skin, and 23 competing neuroses bubbling under their single, hateful exterior personalities. People who roll their eyes and dismiss Dan have no genuine knowledge of his immense body of work, much less of objective musical quality at any parameter. He was a rare poet and a balladeer who earned his supper singing. How many people do you meet at an average party who can do that? Thought so.
I believe Dan Fogelberg is my great influence, because he and I share the same things in common: a gifted talent on the piano and living my life in Colorado!
I might take Dan's attitude toward videos even a step farther, and add that at times, even words nullify many of the feelings that a given piece of music alone might conjure. Many of my favorite pieces of his are the instrumentals from his and Tim Weisberg's effort.
Waaay late to this conversation.....spot on about music videos, and also about instrumental works. I absolutely love instrumental music. It communicates ideas in precise ways that words never can. Not that words aren’t important in music. DF was a better song lyricist than most. I would put DF and al stewart in the same class. Who knows what further masterpieces Dan would have created. That alone is reason enough to mourn his untimely passing. Incidentally, the only DF music video i watch is “go down easy.”
He really nailed it with his take on music videos. Not that they are all bad but they can limit the imagination. Then again there some videos and songs are so interconnected you can't separate them eg. BEAT IT. But when artist are forced into doing videos that have no talent , or no impulse to do them .It really fails
Thanks for posting a video with his beard and at the top of his career. I always felt Dan's beard was like Samson's hair. Once it was gone, I could not get into anything he ever produced thereafter.
Hilarious ...”his songs may be out of step for the times” ...Now, 2021 and still hear them everywhere. His music is timeless

He was so right about imagery. Our great son of Peoria IL
I could not go on loving music if it weren't for Dan! I love him ever since I was 12 years old and ever since the year he died!
I was 12, as well. Scarecrows dream caught my heart.

Amazing man and incredible musician. May he RIP.
i grew up listening to his music, he's missed by many but his music still lives on.
What a great outlook on life this very talented man had! Not surprised that he was such an amazing entertainer.
0:30 He describes exactly what's wrong with music videos!
The only videos I enjoy are watching the singer sing the song.
Pretty cool how you picked up on that. Never heard it that way before. Thanks...

Thanks for this video, wish there was more singing. Love him and his beautiful songs.

Does anyone know where you can find info and images of his first wife, Maggie Slaymaker?
