Will Yun Lee is a pretty solid actor who should be a bigger star than he is. I remember his first big project was Detective Danny Woo in the Witchblade pilot; he's killed halfway through (as the character in the comics his character was based on was) but when the series premiered a year later he'd appear as a ghost the main character Sara talked to. He wound up being SO popular with audiences the first season ended with Sara REWINDING TIME to the point right before he was killed and ensuring he survived.
Lee's really great in Sleeping Dogs; he's able to show Wei's torn loyalties and the character's kind of screwed up attitude towards women. And in the end, doing the right thing is still the most important thing. By the end of the game he seems to have turned a corner, but he's got a lot to deal with internally.
Him voicing Ryo Aoki in Yakuza 7 was a pleasant surprise to me, he did a great job
I might have missed some dialogues but what's his perspective on women that is so bad? I only recall him saying that his life is basically too busy and dangerous to find a girl and settle down. Or mabe you're talking about how the player can choose to date 3 girls at once, basically cheating?
@@daseafrate2025 part of that, and he does cheat on one of the girls with Not Ping, doesn’t he? I always took it as unresolved trauma from his sister’s death.
20:20 Fun fact, the reason there’s GSP gear in the game is because he actually helped choreograph the games fighting animations. They uploaded a bts video of it and one thing I really appreciate he did was he didn’t have the moves be completely professional, he wanted the moves to be a bit less formal since somebody using them in a street fight probably wouldn’t be as fluid as possible using them.
The game absolutely deserved a sequel, such a tragedy that we will never see one. The combat was honestly my favourite part of this game. Especially jumping from car to car which was an absolute highlight for me. I look forward to watching this video as your GTA retrospectives were absolute bangers
I like how despite being brutally tortured and having a power drill jammed through his knee Shen was still able to push through and started running, performing parkour, and kicking everyone ass like all that shit didn’t just happen to him.

No, it isn't. Everyone universally loves it. That's not underrated. It didn't get much attention, but the attention it did get was nothing but positivity.

The combat was so free flowing in the game and the amount of culture and the map is so rich wish the online mmo planned sequel worked out Winstons mum is a w character
It really is criminal that not a lot of people know about this game. It really felt like the beginning of a fruitful franchise at the time of it's release

I love this game! Its super underrated! The story, the world of Hong Kong, Wei, Jackie and Winston, the soundtrack and the gameplay are exceptional! It should have gotten a sequel! Glad that this game has gotten the proper attention overtime!

This game will always have a special place in my heart. Such an underrated gem imo.
I've played this game a few times over the years, one of my absolute favorites. Seeing Dogeyes' introduction scene again reminds me that Wei's line "And I was the first guy who ever Stabbed you. You remember me now?" Goes HARD as hell
Fun fact, wei uses beta bully fighting animations, just repolished, one of the people who worked on sleeping dogs worked on bully.
I'd add to the wedding scene, that The Black Orchid you stole meant, that the couple stays together for the rest of their lives, which... kinda came true ... in a grim way.

A highly anticipated video, also RIP to Tom Wilkinson. Sleeping Dogs was one of the best PS3/Xbox 7th generation gems for me. One of my favorite videos of yours is likely the Walking Dead video too, it was super interesting to see the perspective of someone who hadn't played the seasons other than the first one.

Got this on the pass in xbox live and also was really very surprised at how good this game was. The reward system was nice in this game as well, every time I got a statue, it always motivated me to finish the missions; I enjoyed the fighting mechanics so damn much. And that dlc car, man, was that thing sweet. The emp and the twin gatling guns was just fun as hell, GTA should have done that.
I am really glad you covered Sleeping Dogs at the end! Such a marvel of a game! Always wanted to see a sequel in States that was hinted in King mission, but oh well...
Awesome retrospective. Despite its jankiness and glitches I absolutely loved this game. Having visited HK five times, I can say it was an amazing depiction of the city. A real shame we never got a sequel.
This game was awesome its like a mixture between gta, yakuza and it's own little undercover vibe to it, its one of my favorite open world games.
Guardians of the Galaxy was an AMAZING game, with one of the best radio soundtracks in gaming.

A movie has been in production hell for years now. I still have hope we'll see it one day, but the more time that passes, the more i doubt it'll ever happen.

No, it needed a TV show. Why do people think a game this long would work as a 2 hour film. They'd have to condense and take out so much.

@@ThatOneDumbGuyymakes sense, considering Dogeyes is the main villain for the first half, and Lee with his henchmen (Ponytail and Tong) the main villain in the latter half. A movie wouldn't to the characters justice.
This game is underrated as a whole but the side missions really need some praise. They really varied things up as opposed to most modern day games just being fetch quest or go there and kill that.

Sleeping Dogs truly is a gem of a game. Of course many martial art police films share similar elements that inspired the game, one film called Special ID with Donnie Yen is a good choice if you want to have a similar experience as the game, just in movie form.

Bro, it is my favorite game. It's been with me since my teen ages, now i am 19 soon 20. I have played so many games like Batman Arkham Knight, most of the AC games, The Witcher 3, Mount and Blade Warband, Red Dead Redemption 2, but still my favorite is Sleeping Dogs

I absolutely love this game. The main story and dlcs are worth playing more than once. If any game deserves a sequel it’s sleeping dogs ( even tho the company is gone, a man can dream right?)

And I just got done beating this game a few games. It’s an absolute stellar 11/10 game even with the bugs on Xbox. I’m furious we don’t have a sequel of this.

One of the most underrated games of all time (albeit one of my favorites still) covered by one of the most underrated content creators (for now) this is gonna be an absolute treating. I can safely say that I've been thoroughly looking forward to this fuzzy ever since you first teased it way back when on your community poll, I still remember. 0:14 and I already know this is gonna deliver.

I've played this a few times... And by "played" I mean: all the way through.
I picked up the 360 version when it released and I enjoyed it very much.
I LIKE that it wasn't groundbreaking. One thing that bothers me is having to learn to walk all over again every time I play a new game.
Not that I want the same game over and over. There is plenty of ways to make a game DIFFERENT while still keeping how you interact with that game familiar.
A few years later I bought the "Definitive Edition" on PC and have played It through several times as well.
It's kinda funny the timing of this video... My daughter just started playing this a few days ago...
That, plus THIS video means that I see a new playthrough for me soon.
On the subject of the channel as a whole: I like your videos. I like the way they are presented and I like that you go in depth and don't cut corners. Too many youtubers are only interested in the 11 minute mark...
It doesn't hurt that I have personally played about 95% of the games you do videos for. I enjoy getting someone else's perspective on a game and why they feel that way as opposed to just "I didn't like it."

I think one thing that contributes to the game getting overlooked is that the plot, while a good example of the classic triad gang genre, occurs very swiftly and very point by point. You get all you need to understand the connections between the characters and understand he motivations, but not a lot beyond that. Forexample, I think the wedding is well set up and hits all the notes it had to but only knowing Peggy very briefly does create hurdle for those less invested/familiar in the genre. Yakuza, which I feel is sleeping dog's closest relative plot wise in the gaming sphere, does have very limited exposition but does more to let its cast and the events breathe. I think a little more time would have helped it have more staying power. I do wonder if the voice cast did limit their story capacity since some of those folks are not cheap.
Such an underrated game, even after completing it I’d sometimes boot it up when buzzed to screw around in the fight clubs for a few hours, always looked at it like the GTA chinatown wars we never got

I remember playing this game back in the days on PS3 on an old CRT TV and I loved it. The world is amazing and the atmosphere fits perfectly.
I've got it on PC on GoG for like 2€, but I've been afraid to play it ever since there was something absolutely crazy Happening when my brother played the game.
At a certain point, there was an audio glitch which was an eerie, loud screech. It was about 100 times louder than the game, so I understandly got scared of my bones.
There was nothing I could find about this on the internet. Ever since that happened, I've been unable to go back to try and play the game.
Maybe now after having seen this video I can get myself to play it again.
Such an underrated game that deserves far more recognition. It's a game that holds up remarkably well even today with extremely good writing and voice acting, while the story itself is nothing new, it's still done very well and helps keep you invested in the game as you play. My only real complaint were the 2 story dlc's which ranged from pretty weak to outright awful, however these were included for free along with a selection of outfits that could give your character some excellent gameplay buffs and the main game, all of which in total cost me less than £10, it really is a very small gripe. The main game itself is honestly one of the best games I have ever had the pleasure of playing tbh, paying £10 for that alone is one of the best gaming bargains you will ever lay your hands on imho. If you haven't already played it I recommend buying it asap or just wishlist it and wait for a sale, it always comes up on sale on a regular basis - you will not be disappointed.

There are actually 4 types of enemy. Standard grunts, brawlers (who can't be struck with a basic or heavy attack without full face meter and hit harder on their attacks), grapplers (who will counter any grapple and can full nelson grab from behind, draining health) and armed enemies (who you need an ability to disarm, or full face meter and who can't be countered unless at low health, just dodged)

One of the very few of this genre of games i played. Really enjoyed it. Its just genuine fun as the whole package. Also blood sport is a cinematic masterpiece.

Sleeping Dogs is without a doubt a masterpiece on many levels (It’s a real shame more consumers didn’t embrace it) Sleeping Dogs & Just Cause were two IP’s that took massive swings (and tried to be more different then GTA) Over the last 5-8yrs seems like more people have discovered it/embraced it. it’s also sad a studio like United Front Games went out of business! Sleeping Dogs felt epic especially in scope with a massive big budget Hollywood feel it’s depressing we only got a glimpse of that world/story
