There are lots of traffic coming in and out of pearl harbor, I try to avoid filming them but i can't really help it when I'm flighting a fish. ua-cam.com/channels/rg4os1aA7hYI1muVTzM4yQ.html
I remember the first time I saw this. I was thinking, damn, he's really far out there. I hadn't really seen a lot of video of people so far off shore in open water in a kayak. I'll be honest and say that would make me a bit nervous, being that far off of shore, in a boat so small. You however, make it look like it's nothing......You live in a beautiful place, with wonderful fishing......Jealous I am. Great stuff man!
Great video! That helps make my mind up a little. I've been struggling with deciding on which reel to go with 4 my fly lining in Southern California . overhead conventional, or spinning. Those are some decent fish on 4000 series reel also! Keep up the good work...
Thanks Eric!. I prefer spinning reels, the only downside is line capacity. I need to hook up to a wahoo on my light setup. I run a conventional when targeting marlin, maybe i'll get lucky one of these days. ua-cam.com/users/ecorson03
What did you decide to go with? I'd suggested not to go on up a party boat with anything less than 6k spinner set up. Conventional reels are the most popular in 30-40 size. If you use a spinner don't worry about the jokes and flak that people will give you.
Thanks Salty Strikes! It is a terrible habit, I'm still trying to get used to these powerful fish. Generally I am more worried about getting sharked @Salty Strikes
Searching for some information on using bait feeder reels and not finding much. What are the advantages are there and what species would they be best for? Thanks.
I really enjoy watching your channel bro. Could you please list all of the gear that you use on one of your video's. You deserve to be sponsored by Hobie, Ugly Stik, and Penn! Thank You for sharing your video's, be safe and tight lines bro.
Phil that was one of the funnest fights I have ever had, as fun as catching a 50lb shibi on my heavy setup. ua-cam.com/channels/aEJ1jABsVtmbFaqdnNGY9Q.html
You could get flipped if you had your drag locked down and the pole in rod holder. I rarely do that since I am fishing with live bait, fish takes the bait and then I put the reel in gear. I made my rod holders for two main reasons. The first is to be able to carry more rods, 6 now 2 before. The second that it gets my reels higher up away from the saltwater, it was pretty calm in this video so it wasn't a big deal. ua-cam.com/channels/6i3JGUAGBjyK9_Xg7U6GZQ.html
Nice fish and with such light tackle too. I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit about the reel I’m thinking of buying one. Are the gears machine or dicast? Do you use it a lot?
I just purchased a penn fierce 2 - 6000 live liner. What do you do as far as maintenance on your fishing reel? Someone told me that my reel won’t last long because of being splashed on from salt water all the time on a kayak. Thanks
I always rinse the saltwater spray off the reel with fresh water. One of the best things you can do is to not submerge the reel in saltwater if at all possible. How often it needs to be serviced depends on how much you use it. Saltwater will kill the reel eventually, you’re really just slowing down the process. Another major thing you can do is to keep your reels as far away from the water as possible by using a shotgun rod holder. All that does is get your rod that much further from the water. In the next two weeks I will post a video of how I made my rod holders.
Thank you for vid everything was well done I have a penn 5000 I like to buy a rod for I will be fishing this coming year northern cal for albacore hopefully about the same size as yours can you give me the model # of that rod. Also if you wanted a heavier rod which one would you get?? Thank you from Northern Cali
Thanks David! This rod is my light setup, it's an ugly stick tiger light 6'9 medium action spinning rod about 6 years old now. The heavier setup I generally use is paired with a 6000 size Penn fierce live liner on a 6'6 heavy action spinning jigging rod (USTEJG50100S661). For albacore fishing I would go with this rod, paired with your 5000 www.uglystik.com/uglystik-rods-spinning-rods/ugly-stik-tiger-elite-spinning-rod/1415330.html#start=1 My heavy jigging setup is for 20-80 lb fish, but I would put it against 100 lb fish. ua-cam.com/channels/4K5jUAFrWlLbn0E2EHZ2Jg.html
I use a homemade damashi (sabiki), eventually I make a video on how I make mine. I use the the rod and reel set up from this video. It was an amazing fight to catch a tuna that big on my bait rod.
@@FlyingFish_TV probably some kayak/boat fishing. I have a penn fierce 8000 reel, but the rod it came with was 10' for some shore/pier fishing. What happens if a big ass shark comes up to you I watched UA-cam videos where sharks they can swim all around these kayaks and these guys try to Peddle the shore really fast that's really dangerous
I always watch vids of offshore anglers.... I want to go offshore in my kayak but i fear of being flipped bya shark who is ripping my legs off. Any comments?
When the bites are really hard to get, going lighter on your leader will often work. This was on my bait rod. My regular pelagic rod has 65lb braid to 40lb leader.
@@papiomasta1195 I generally use the 4000 for my bait pole, I use a 6000 for pelagic. After I set the hook I turn and chase down the fish. In this case I couldn't do that because of the submarine. thanks for the excellent virtual get away... stuck inside in NorCal with "stay at home" and 3 days of rain! Excellent vid and respect for the fish.
I like how you bleed it in the water your feet are in lol you’re a brave man 👍🏻

Love the fishery there I need to make a trip ASAP awesome video brother

Hard to beat a penn reel and a ugly stick tiger rod. Awesome combos!
I'd love to catch one those fish...awesome video especially with a SUB..
I can't get enough of this.

This video was insane. Can’t believe it only has 50k views
Pretty sure you’ve done a filleting job before - good skills! Would love to see that in detail one day!
What is the bag you put it in? New to ocean kayakfishing and like that keep seals away

Great Video! Impressive to catch that with a 4000 series, what do they have? just 15lb of drag?
Cool Beans
Can you tell me about the rod. I bought a tiger elite 7"spinning rod. But i didnt use it yet.

What a cool as video man. I only wish that you didn't fast forward the filleting section that would have been cool to watch properly :)

Nice! What pound test braid are you using?
6 year old 30lb braid, I should probably replace it soon.
ua-cam.com/channels/MWWJ0nbf49MkwxmWF2c6ww.html
Thats really good reel i use it for salmon
That was awesome
Can you please share your set up. Thanks
what line is that?
30lb yellow power pro braid and 20lb mono. It was my bait rod
What line? Mono or braid and how many pound test?
This one I caught on my bait rod. 30lb braid FG knot to 50ft of 20lb mono.
The army called that color yum yum yellow because of the increased incidence of shark attacks.
So this is the penn fierce 2 4000?
The Penn fierce live liner 2, 4000 size.
Flying Fish TV I’m also looking at a Daiwa 4500 what type of fishing do you think I can use that for?
What setup do you use to catch your live bait?
I use a homemade damashi (sabiki), eventually I make a video on how I make mine. I use the the rod and reel set up from this video. It was an amazing fight to catch a tuna that big on my bait rod.
Nice, videos top notch
I think you caught a sub!
Where are you at Hawaii
This was on Oahu, I wish I was still living out there
Well done
Would you recommend this reel/rod combo?
The rod is good, but ugly. The reel isn’t not meant for salt water. If you can buy something better I would.
@@FlyingFish_TV any recommendations?

Thank you boss
Thank you somuch ...
I have the exact same reel as you but I end up only catching sunfish weighing less than a pound... Something's not right here...
Live bait one of those sunfish and catch a huge large mouth bass. Hopefully that isn’t illegal where you live.
Did you modify the drag on the reel? Thanks
I have not and it really needs it. I use this set up for catching bait about 90% of the time. Soon I am going to start throwing soft plastics with it.

What is a 25lb "SheeBee"? And what is the music source? Me likes.
UA-cam audio library. Shibi is a yellow tuna less than 100lbs, over 100 is called an ahi.
Nice...is this on Kauai
Oahu
besides almost getting spooled did that 4000 handle easily if you had more line and was your drag on lockdown?

Your on a kayak, there's less force because it moves with the fish. You need to be on land to put it on a limit.
