Godox UL60 Review | The Small, Silent Light
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 сер 2024
- In this video I review the silent Godox UL60 and compare it to other popular budget lights like the Godox ML60, Aputure Amaran 100d, Nanlite Forza 60, and Nanlite FS-150.
The main selling point of this LED light is the completely fanless design, but there are other benefits to the Godox UL60 over other budget 60 watt alternatives.
The Godox UL60 features an external controller with native v-mount battery support, wireless remote control, and more, making it one of the most versatile and portable options for content creators, youtubers, and more.
Godox also designed new quick-release parabolic softboxes that are a perfect match for this and other Bowens mount lights for studio setups, content creators, or even live events like interviews or more intimate performances.

What do you think about this light? Is it worth the price or would you choose something else first?
Thank you for another excellent video. I am going to buy a UL 60 as a secondary lamp to go with my SL150. The design and build has certainly come on a long way since the first SL60.
I wonder if you can answer the following:- When using a lamp of this type dimmed down to 50% is it still using the full wattage of or does the wattage reduce as the percentage is reduced, thereby using less electricity?
Many thanks dj
Been loving these light reviews, J.T. Thanks so much!
Glad you like them, more on the way :)
I have more than one or two uses for a fixture exactly like this. Thanks for the review JT.
If you need a silent COB but not 150 watts+ of brightness, it's pretty much a no brainer! Glad you liked the video.
Thank you so much for the different compatibility info... I will be okay with a pair of these and a VL 200 for my kind of work.
Glad that info was useful! Thanks for watching :)
I have two UL 150s looked at this light but needed brighter. Thanks for the review
Love the UL150 as well! The only thing that would make them a perfect pairing would be if they could be controlled using the same remote/mobile app.
@@NewLayer you can buy the new Sidus Bridge and use the Sidus Link application I think.
Great video as usual and nice you brought in the VL150 as we already talked about on Instagram 😊
I don’t understand why they don’t include a bag with the UL-series, like with the VL150, because most creators needs to bring their gear to locations and not actors to studios. 😊
Agreed. If you're going to include an external controller and v-mount support, include a case.
Another top-shelf review!
Thanks bro! I've got plenty more reviews coming, and some other fun content soon.
@@NewLayer you’re the man!
Thanks for this video! I'm thinking about getting this one or the UL150
UL150 is great as well, just quite large and heavy. The UL60 is tiny and a dream for solo creators and indoor use who want silence.
@@NewLayer What I'm always wondering is how to know the light I would need depending on the space I want to light. How can I calculate that?
@@IzanSoria Use my light comparison tool: newlayer.com/gear/lights/compare
You will see brightness shown in Lux, as well as in f-stop at 1/50 second, ISO 100. Everything is measured bare bulb from 1 meter.
So if you see a light that says f/2.8, 1/50, ISO 100, that means from 1 meter, bare bulb, you will get proper exposure at those settings. You can then figure things out from there, so if you increase the ISO to 400, you can shoot f/5.6 and get proper exposure, etc.
Distance and diffusion reduce the amount of light. Adding a softbox cuts off about 2 full stops of light. Every time you double the distance of your light, you get 1/4 of the original output.
I hope that helps. If you have a general idea of your setup, let me know and I can make a recommendation.
Great review as always. You have really taken this form to perfection.
Thank you! I'm glad to hear you find my format so useful :)
I have the ul150 ll I use the RC-A6 remote for that light.
Wow! Another good review! Keep it up… any recommendations for a travel light overseas…something small and power? Loving the cover, cheaper and better
I've been researching the CAME-TV Boltzen Perseus RGBDT 55W Travel Light for these purposes, looks like a good fit but theres not a lot of information about the lights, not even dimensions and I don't know much about the CAME-TV brand either. Looks sort of interesting though.
Thanks! If you get the right case, this light is still pretty compact.
The Godox ML60, Nanlite Forza 60, and Aputure 60d/x would be my choice for travel if you want a COB since they come with carrying cases.
The most compact options are panels, but you are more limited on softboxes without a Bowens mount. Something like the budget GVM 1200D comes in 1, 2, and 3 light kits and has softboxes available. I cover that light here: ua-cam.com/video/_pWswMk6K3I/v-deo.html
There's also more professional options, like the Kinotehnik Practilite 802, which comes in travel kits with hard shell cases. DoP Choice makes softboxes for those as well. I reviewed it here: ua-cam.com/video/wh-pqHXgmUM/v-deo.html
I hope that helps!
Came-TV is a pretty established brand, but I don't have personal experience with their stuff so can't say much there. They seem to be a midrange brand.
@@NewLayer You have been a good help from us since we bought our Pixapro light and Recomended the Hume Lake! Thank you friend.. Will check out the lights
Hi, great review! I love these lights and have both the 60 & 150w versions. I was wondering if you’ve had issues with certain v-mount batteries not clipping in properly on the 60w? No issues with the same v-mount batteries on the 150w. Best wishes.
Thanks! And no, I personally never had issues with battery fitment, although I only have Intellytech Pocket Vs and some Anton Bauer batteries so not a huge selection.
A nice budget light.
This is true, especially if it's on sale!
Couple of these with my Godox VL150 would be great lighting kit, do you agree? If i find little smaller domes for these than my Laofas, then these might be better than the neewer 660 we talked about.
If you don't mind the COB form factor instead of panels, then yes these are fantastic little lights!
Great video. Are there any big differences between the UL60 and the UL60 bi-color such as downsides getting the bi-color version?
Just that the bi-color won't be quite as bright. Usually around 2/3 stops dimmer than the daylight version.
What batteries would u suggest for 300d to bring outside? Since I know they require 2 vmounts.
If you're looking for budget options, I like the GVM batteries because they are inexpensive, come with a charger, and have a USB port on top of D-Tap ports: geni.us/gvmgv160
I also use the Intellytech Pocket V's for a few reasons, which I cover in this video: ua-cam.com/video/LWLDVyeuUNE/v-deo.html
Hope that helps!
pls review the recent godox refresh of the SL100 series (not the the original)
Yes. the SL100 bi color. There are no reviews out there for it.
I would love to, so I'll try if I ever get my hands on one. Godox doesn't really seem to want to push that light, at least in the US, at least not right now.
I have the SL150Bi, but would love to try the SL100Bi also. Hopefully in the future.
@@NewLayer Yeah, seems strange as it's clearly supposed to be the new budget king to replace the SL60 (and to counter the amaran series)
Does the light turn on automatically when you plug in the power cord if it was previously on?
Sorry, I don't remember whether that's the case or not since it's been so long.
@@NewLayer thank you anyways :)
UL150 is also going for $319 at a few retailers, fyi
Nice! Godox stuff used to rarely go on sale but I see them cheaper than usual more and more now, which just makes them a better deal.
Godox quietly taking on Aputure. At this point, I'd much rather buy a Godox light.
Love the lights, but the non-cohesive wireless control system is a deal breaker for some. It'll take time for them to revamp all their lights to be under a unified system, if that is indeed their plan (it better be).
