I picked up the VL300 based on your last review, and I'm very glad I did. The UL looks like exactly what I need as the next piece of my lighting puzzle. Thank you for yet another superb review.
I bought 2 VL150s based on your review in April and honestly cannot be happier! Thank you for paying attention to these affordable lights to help those of us who can't afford Aputure's gear.
I’ve only just watched the older April video. This is really helpful. As i don’t know much about lights, it’s a minefield of numbers trying to figure out what’s worth it. This, and the previous video, has made choosing much more straight forward
I literally just ordered the VL150 a few days ago and saw this video and was like, 'aw shucks, I should've waited!'. But now, after watching your video, I'm still going to stick with the VL150 because the fan noise won't be too much of an issue for me, plus it's smaller and comes with a case, which is a huge plus! Love your videos, Gerald. You've taught me so much.
A few questions 1. At the end of the day with money not being an issue would you choose Aputure over Godox 2. Does the 300D also give off that warmer green tint and the VL200/300 give off that cooler magenta tint? Thanks for your time and love your content!
Excellent comparison as always. I was looking at the VL150 based on your previous video but the UL150 is definitely the best choice for me now as I prefer no noise. Great video! Thank you for the comparison as it really helps.
Great video Gerald! Been looking at your COB videos for sometime and looks like the UL-150 is the light that finally checks the boxes I’ve been looking for. Thank you and please keep the great content coming!

Another great, video with a lot of useful information for people trying to decide between the various Godox models or between the Aputure and the Godox lights. Thanks, Gerald😊
I just got two of these today and I can say already I think they are fantastic. I used these to replace two Fiilex P360s what’s great about them, apart from no noise, is that I can run them well below full-power and they are barely warm so no noise and very little heat.
This information-density is outstanding. As a newb sometimes a bit overwhelming but also sparks that nerdy passion for technical details. Love it! Probably gonna go for the UL150, because the fact that it produces the best accuracy at no noise is just outstanding. Are there even any downsides to it compared to anything else in this pricerange??

Godox are making very interesting products at a very aggressive prices, that's a fact. But I can't help but be concerned about the quality and responsiveness of the after-sales service. I mean just take an eye on the contact page from Aputure and Godox, one is more precise whereas the other one is a simple mail address. And customer feedback on Godox's services don't look good :/ As an independant videomaker it's difficult to spend a thousand dollars on a light but on the other hand it may be a safe bet in a few years if I can repair or have equipment changed quickly... So yeah these are my concerns currently

@@anlagrdr5229 Thank you for sharing your experience, very interesting ! The choice may depend of the country regarding the support that can be offered.
Generally, if I am buying Godox products, I buy from Adorama because of the extended warranty and their quite good customer service (they sell white-label versions of Godox products under their Flashpoint brand name). On the other hand, I needed to buy a switch for one of my Godox flashes (bought through adorama) that was out of the one-year warranty. The only place to get the switch was from Aliexpress. I ordered back on May 3rd. As of July 12th, it is still in the mail. So obviously there are problems when buying items that don't have spare parts in stock in your native country.
I was looking for a powerful light without a fan and found the Godox UL150. I am shooting video in a small confined space. My good mics will certainly pick up fan noise. I like the buiuld quality and the high output. Further issues I would love to see covered include 1. Different approaches to warming up the 5600 color temperature. And 2. help me with the Godox Photo and Godox Light apps! I could not get them to work on my iphone 12 mini.
Just bought the vl150 for my small studio, and I've noticed the remote only works when I'm like a foot away from the light. Also mine got sent with the stickers literally slapped on crooked, but that's just a visual thing :P
I've been looking at these lights recently, thank you for making a review and comparison. Too bad the 2 new lights are not available here yet and VL150 currently out of stock. I think I'm gonna pick up VL150 once it's available, we can consider the $60 price difference is for the bag and battery option also compact design, so it will be lighter on top of a light stand.
You should check out the new GVM RGB 150S mk II! I think they fixed some of your initial qualms with the original in terms of light quality and features.
Dude. I literally JUST had the VL150 delivered from Amazon today. Haven't even opened the box yet. 😂 I'm looking forward to setting it up and testing it out here soon. But since you have more experience with both the VL150 and UL150... if $40 weren't an issue, would you return the VL150 and get the UL150, or is the fan noise not that noticeable on the VL anyway. I do mainly vlogs and interviews, so keeping it to 45% should be okay... but if the VL noise is an issue, then $40 more for a light that I'll have for years is nothing. Thanks for another great vid!
It's not crazy loud even when it's on. But I would just test the VL150 while you have it. Do you need it quieter and brighter at the same time and don't mind giving up the carrying case? Get the UL. If not, keep the VL, it's great too.

Hmm, you set the in-camera color balance to match the Sekonic's reading from the VL150 (5400K), but then you got the most accurate color from the UL150 even though it measured out at 5500K. The Sekonic C-800 is pretty much dead on in my experience, so IMO the fact that the 5500K UL150 was "more accurate" suggests a flaw in the camera's temperature-based WB implementation more than any benefit of the light itself. I suppose the error could also be a metamerism, but given the high CRI of all of these light that seems unlikely.

The two SL 200 II units I just purshased does not match well. One magenta tint and one unit, and the other one with a green tint (brand new same serial number batch). In fact, one of the SL 200 II units match better with both my Aputure and LitePanels than it's own other SL 200 II unit, but not ideal. If I'd be happy with these, I'd get more to have a more unified temp/tint/color rendition, but these does vary too much. How would you approac this problem? Gels or simply return them until you have units that match?

If you were starting out for documentary interviews and some products ( coffeeshop videos). Trying to decide if 150 or 300 or both is necessary. Do you think the differences in output and color are more a result of loose binning of the COB chips rather than actual design differences between the lights? I don't see why they'd be designed to have such small differences otherwise.
These are more of studio lights, right? Which type is nice for outside interviews? For my video, one ligjt is enought and I take the sun as the key light
Why'd it say lux at the bottom at 6:50?
Because my brain apparently turned off and I wrote lux instead of Kelvin. It should be Kelvin.

Awesome content good sir!!!
If you will take the time to recommend a light I will use your your affiliate links to buy them😀. If you were starting out for documentary interviews and some products ( coffeeshop videos). Trying to decide if 150 or 300 or both is necessary. Which Godox light or lights would you purchase right to now to start?
Do you think the differences in output and color are more a result of loose binning of the COB chips rather than actual design differences between the lights? I don't see why they'd be designed to have such small differences otherwise.
These are more of studio lights, right? Which type is nice for outside interviews? For my video, one ligjt is enought and I take the sun as the key light
Waiting for Godox
Got a UL, thanks !
Excellence again from the G Unit 😎
UL150 looks like the best buy.
there is a difference in terms of light output between battery and wall plug with the UL 150
The SL150 ii is only $239 at the moment on adorama!
why cant i find a review on the DP600III ? Great stuff Gerald!
Would love a few clips or stills for download of the color checker, especially if in CDNG or similar.
