      When seeing this video I was afraid I made my purchase of the VL150 too early... That godox now came out with either a better, or cheaper alternative.
      I'm happy to see that that's not the case for my particular setup.
      However I might consider an sl150 mk ii as my next light.

      Perspiration is an active mechanism that your body uses to defend itself from overheating. If the ambient temperature is lower than temperature inside of your lungs, then the body is cooling itself by moving air in and out. No electric fans are required.

    I literally just ordered the VL150 a few days ago and saw this video and was like, 'aw shucks, I should've waited!'. But now, after watching your video, I'm still going to stick with the VL150 because the fan noise won't be too much of an issue for me, plus it's smaller and comes with a case, which is a huge plus! Love your videos, Gerald. You've taught me so much.

    1. At the end of the day with money not being an issue would you choose Aputure over Godox

    Will you do an "endurance" test with these lights, to see how the UL stacks up, if temperatures build up - get too high, and if this may make it prone to last less than the fan powered counterparts?

    Godox is really taking on the challenges of providing professionals the tools they need. One question -- how would lights of this wattage mix with direct sun to either lighten shadows or provide a keylight when the sun is backlighting the subject? Is 150W enough, or would you need a 300W light for this?

    Do you think the differences in output and color are more a result of loose binning of the COB chips rather than actual design differences between the lights? I don't see why they'd be designed to have such small differences otherwise.

Any further and the data on the remote display changes, but nothing changes with the light or on it's display, other than that, the vl150 has been perfect, and barely heats up running even at 100%. Also mine got sent with the stickers literally slapped on crooked, but that's just a visual thing :P

    Hmm, you set the in-camera color balance to match the Sekonic's reading from the VL150 (5400K), but then you got the most accurate color from the UL150 even though it measured out at 5500K.
    The Sekonic C-800 is pretty much dead on in my experience, so IMO the fact that the 5500K UL150 was "more accurate" suggests a flaw in the camera's temperature-based WB implementation more than any benefit of the light itself. I suppose the error could also be a metamerism, but given the high CRI of all of these light that seems unlikely.

    I have trouble understanding how these lights compare to the power of fresnels. I looked up the Lux for fresnels like Mole Richards 1k and 2k and they seem similar in power but I have trouble believing I would be getting the same amount of light from these lights as you would from a Fresnel.

    Godox are making very interesting products at a very aggressive prices, that's a fact. But I can't help but be concerned about the quality and responsiveness of the after-sales service. I mean just take an eye on the contact page from Aputure and Godox, one is more precise whereas the other one is a simple mail address. And customer feedback on Godox's services don't look good :/
    As an independant videomaker it's difficult to spend a thousand dollars on a light but on the other hand it may be a safe bet in a few years if I can repair or have equipment changed quickly... So yeah these are my concerns currently

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  4 роки тому +1

      Generally, if I am buying Godox products, I buy from Adorama because of the extended warranty and their quite good customer service (they sell white-label versions of Godox products under their Flashpoint brand name). On the other hand, I needed to buy a switch for one of my Godox flashes (bought through adorama) that was out of the one-year warranty. The only place to get the switch was from Aliexpress. I ordered back on May 3rd. As of July 12th, it is still in the mail. So obviously there are problems when buying items that don't have spare parts in stock in your native country.

    actually really would love to get the VL150, but it's kind of expensive in my opinion. On the other hand, the SL60W was more in my price range but really worse on specs so i'd still consider spending a little more to be done for a longer time with the VL150.
