I loved this game. I can't stand that amongst racing games, nobody ever remembers this amazing game that I still think is one of the best racing games of all time. Flash your lights and race heads up. This game was way ahead of its time and still holds up with its in game concepts.😊
I remember, before ever knowing anything about Porsches, getting the 964 Turbo in this game and getting GOOD with it. I would back it into a corner hanging the tail way out, then hammer the gas to get traction on the rear and just HAMMER through corners. Never saw the Yellowbird Nürburgring video, didn't understand weight transfer and why it worked, I just knew that nothing could touch my little red Volkswagen-looking thing. Now after logging hundreds of hours in Porsches in Forza, going back to TXRZ, I can't even TOUCH the pace I was setting when I was 12. I just had it nailed down for one magic moment.
I know that feeling. I suck at drifting, but one day when I was 19 it just clicked. I was using VR and drifting at the Nurburgring and I could just place the car exactly where it should have been. It was like the Corolla were just a pair of running shoes on my feet. But half was through the lap I started getting fatigued and I’ve never gotten into that flow state again, but it was magic while it lasted.
Yeah, do that in a Porsche IRL and you’ll just spin out and die. RR cars are notoriously hard to break traction with, but also notoriously hard to regain traction with.
@kyototomokui6676 It's not impossible to drift a Porsche, and that's basically how you'd do it. It's what The Man from that old Ruf Yellowbird VHS was doing. They got a nasty reputation because they don't take kindly to panic-braking on corner entry, which is what a dentist usually does when he over-cooks it. They have great traction on throttle, but rotate on lift. Opposite of a minivan driver's intuition. Longtime Porsche racing drivers used to crash Corvettes because they'd use gas to straighten out, which isn't a thing in a big FR.
Best game ever, damn I remember that boss. It took me several tries to beat it and was always hoping boss would crash. Thinking about it now those speeds are ridiculously fast, when i did an air strip time attack at 188 MPH (restricted speed pass for first timers) i felt like I was gonna take off and fly!
We need another Tokyo Xtreme Racer! Nothing matched the atmosphere and style of this game. The bosses had such a menacing presence too. It was a thrill when they showed up and so satisfying if they happen to crash and you beat them out of pure luck.
This was one of the first racing games I ever played to completion - this song and race randomly popped in to my head today, glad I could find it somewhere!
This blue Z is one of the toughest opponent of the game, Losing to Zero, a pilot driving a Black modified porsche with 1100+ hp ( data from the game ). I saw a wanderer guide and the player had diffculty against them EVEN with this car
Gran Turismo should make a game like these Tokyo Xtreme drift and wangan for the ps5. With the beautiful graphics and perfect balance of arcade and simulation and street racing. Polyphony even knows that a huge number of players play other games like initial d and wangan midnite
I stayed up all night playing TXR Zero back in the day, then crashed my RSX Type-S that morning shifting gears around a turn, thinking I was still in the game. 😑

I played this game for the first time in 2004, I was never able to be at the game but a few months ago I bought the game again and I just beat it today for the first time ever, racer 400 appeared after I beat zero, his car was ridiculously fast, but surprisingly easy to beat because he crashed so much. It was easier beating him, than some of the other people I raced. lol
i've playthrough this game multiple times. Every time, my starter car would usually be the EVO III. On one of the play throughs tho, i got tired of using the same car so i ended up using the EK9 civic and actually used it for the majority of the game, even on Wangan lol. I had it fully upgraded which i think it was around 440hp or so. Even then, would still get dusted, especially on Wangan lol. Good times. Currently playing through the game again using the GTO
Yeah I was dusting everyone with the regular RX7 with around 450 HP. All fun and games until Jintei (Speed King) showed up and whooped my ass. 700 HP discrepancy between the both of us. This game showed no mercy man. I guess that’s why the payouts were also huge too.

But because I had a difficult time trying to win against him in an Evo III, I checked the rival list and it said his car was 1200hp 🤣🤣🤣 I wish I could go back in time.
I got to the finale.. But then the last opponent would never show up. Was the worst glitch in history, god the anticipation.... Drove around for hours and hours and hours, never to be challenged. Ugh. >[

I used PCSX2 emulator with these settings imgur.com/a/wR1s2y7. Make sure to get the 1.7 version or newer (I don't know what version is the newest right now). Right side audio bug was patched on 1.6 or something, but in this video I just set the audio to be mono in Windows 10. The game is smooth, because it ran natively on the PS2 at 60FPS (NTSC version), which is why it also runs at 60FPS on the emulator.
Speed King (The blue Skyline) is the final boss of the 13 Devils. Beating him will trigger the first ending credits. After that there will be more rivals, the 13 Devils being replaced by The Zodiac. The boss in the video is just a secret boss for beating every other rival, and I mean every single one.
Man, so far, as long I been playing nearly the Shutokou Battle franchise, I will say, Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2/Shutokou Battle 2 for Sega Dreamcast, looks great, and has sick soundtrack, but the game is nearly unplayable by such cheating opponents taking coners like a breeze, while us the player, we have to slow down even more than the rival's car, to get through corners, rivals can also crash into corners sometimes, but they recover from their mistakes by blazing ridiculous accelerations like nothing happen

If you've never done this before, the jist of it is that there are seven bars to fiddle around with, going from the first gear to the 6th gear and then the final drive ratio. You can change each gear to be either longer (high) or shorter (low) depending on your preferences. Longer gears achieve higher top speeds at the cost of acceleration. Tune the gears in a way that satisfies you, preferrably so that the 6th gear achieves the top speed of the car without hitting the rev limiter. The final drive ratio just changes all the gears simultaneously. If you feel like all the gears are alright, but you just want more top speed, change the final drive ratio to be longer and then test to see if you can hit the car's top speed without hitting the rev limiter. Hope this helped.

The closest thing we have to this game now is the Wangan Midnight maximum tune arcade.
The music from this game still bounces around my skull randomly from time to time. And im certainly not complaining. Underrated tracks imo

I would switch to the evo 5 or 6 when it became available if you cant beat something in the straightaway.. Take it to a corner..
When I unlocked the tri-rotor RX7 or the Viper; that's what'd I use for a lot of my races... So much fun.

Also, the audio is only heard on one channel. I recommend enabling mono audio in Windows settings, when you're playing this game.
