I NEED IT! PLEASE!" Fast forward to present day, I still play this game and every time I play, I complete 100% The most challenging racing game I've ever played. Not only the difficulty, but the requirements for this game is what sets it apart from other racers. Great review, man!

This was the best TXR. They had a sick car collection cause they didn't license any of the cars so they put in whatever they wanted. I was pumped as a kid in like 01-02 cause txr had an e36 and my dad was building one at the time. 2 days after we swapped in the m3 transmission we took it to the premiere of fast n furious. That car ended up being the first 1000whp e36 328 and first to run a 9 sec pass in 2006-07. Since i was into cars I always hated the nfs series. Txr and my import building pops influenced who I am today. This old guy needs a remake so bad... sry for the essay😂
Have you seen Assetto Corsa and all the mods? They made a Tokyo highway map with traffic that you can play online. They also have the best drifting. It is phenomenal and you can play in VR!!! Check it out if you don’t already know.
I'm playing through TXRD2 (Kaido 3) and for as complicated as it can get to progress through the quest mode in this series, it does so many things that Modern racers would benefit from so much. It feels so much like a racing rpg. I like Unboud but I would love it if it followed more closer to Kaido 3 where you had to defeat every single rival with its weekly format. I personally adore this series and more modern racers need to take notes especially with the series overarching story

I remember getting a viper and maybe a camo evo by the time i stopped playing it. Absolutely insane, i loved it. It's crazy that opponents only became available when driving certain cars at certain times

In reference to using team stickers to change the BAD Name, if you are driving a vehicle from that team with the Team sticker on it you will get a unique BAD Name that doesnt change, Example You drive a first Gen Eclipse and Put a Team Alpha sticker on the car as one of their drivers also drives a first gen Eclipse your BAD Name becomes, "Far East Killer" this also works in a similar way in TXR3 and Import Tuner Challenge But instead of using any of the teams cars, you must be driving the same Model car as the Team LEADER, In Import Tuner Challenge you drive an R34 and put a Freeway Sticker on the back window and get the BAD Name Freeway Samurai. There are modern day Triple A games that dont come even CLOSE to the amount of Depth The TXR series has

When my dad bought me my PS2 back in 2004 this was the first game I got. It was the only racing game in the display case and I’m glad I got it. Today I still have my PS2 hooked up to my TV. Complete with The classic blue and red memory cards and OEM controllers. Only thing I wish is that there was some sort of way to get HD on it.
I miss this game, I used to play it all the time when I was in the military. I really wish they would bring this series back. Be a hell of a lot better then the last few NFS released 😢😢
I absolutely LOVE this game. Have the original disc still and on emulator. The AI is so various, with speeders, blockers, both, offering a lot of fun and frustration. A huge variety of cars, way more than almost any other racing games. The replays are the BEST, even compared to later racing games. So many racing games just have a close view on a replay, but TXR Zero actually has wider views. Both front and back, offering a way better experience when watching your race. Really wish this series had continued. A higher res remake would be awesome, but I'm fine with the old graphics.
Playing TXR0 with my old middle school homie, who named his Evo III ‘Senor Pescado’ got me into this. I beat it in 2011-2012, full 100% all 400 drivers beaten. It was so fucking good.
Bought it 2 years ago, just to add to my ps2 collection. Was expecting a rather bad game... and it turned out to be the best arcade racing game that i've ever played, and easly one of the best games i've ever played. Not because of any particular element, on the contrary, taken apart most elements were average if not sub-par (apart from killer soundtrack), but brought together added up to sooo much more than just the sum of it's parts. Never have i ever felt this way playing racing game before. It was like being a character in anime, a Goku in racing. So incredible adventure, pure magic. There is nothing like the feeling of stalking your overpowered opponent, luring him into C1 loop while "Night Fly" plays in the background. I drove a Nissan Silvia for the majority of game, red and black paint, kinda like Skyline Silhouette - and for me this wasn't just a car, in my mind it became a legend of Tokyo. This was the best about this game, that you felt like the f***ing chosen one.

You actually don’t have to do the rubber band trick. All you have to do is race and then let the car go into self drive and leave the game running. No need to use the controller. 😎

My favorite was txr3. When I found out what SP stood for, it started to make sense. Spirit Points. If you fall back, you lose your Spirit. Eventually losing the race. I never got 100%, I think I got to 97%. I restarted so many times, to see if it was something I was doing wrong. In txr3 you could go to the PA and talk to ppl and hear rumors about wanderers. It was by far my favorite. I was late to the party so txr3 was the only one I really got to play. I could only rent earlier versions so I couldn't really dive into them. I wish we could get a modern version. I honestly wouldn't care if it was copied and pasted with new gen graphics. They did get close with Import Tuner Challenge on xbox 360. They didn't have all the rivals but it was a good play. I have multiple saves with a 100% completion. Dang, I think I'm going to bust out the 360 now. Lol

I would have loved to fill the gaps of what the cutscenes would have contained. Can't seem to find info on it on our side of the pond. I remember being very confused by suddenly unlocking the new areas and not getting any kind of dialogue or intro cutscene. It's like you know there's something that's supposed to be there and it's not lol
I used to have all of the Tokyo Xtreme racer games and still have Import Tuner challenge for the 360. The first game that got me hooked on Japanese car culture was Tokyo Highway Battle in the 90's. In the early 2000s i made several trips to Japan to feed my passion for cars and samurai history. Now my son is into JDM cars and playing Tuner Challenge. Lol And yes, i used to own a few JDM cars. Lol
I recently rebought a ps2 and this was the first game I bought with it. I played this for hours and hours back in the early 2000s. I remember I picked up a copy at best but for $20 on Black Friday.
I wish they did a new version for the ps5! I wouldnt play anything else anymore. I played zero and completed it 100%. I was so proud of myself..just downloaded the emulator and downloaded the game and I’m hooked all over again. This is so beautiful
@@KingdomTwelve I want to say TXR3 is my favorite because of the iconic rivals, the three cities, the interesting non-JDM car choices (who would've expected a friggin' Pantera in that game?!), and the catchy-yet-annoying soundtrack. However, I do have to say that Zero probably has a better soundtrack overall, a better car selection because of Honda alone even though it has the Gran Turismo problem of pointless multiple trims of the same cars, a better and more consistent difficulty curve compared to TXR3 even though Zero is more grind-heavy, and just the right amount of content so that it doesn't get too tedious in the later parts of the game whereas TXR3 can drag on at points.
Well, this game is simply an uplift of Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 on the Dreamcast released years before, and which had better speed sensation and better texture (but less realism graphic and light effect). It's essentially the very same game. That being said, Tokyo Xtreme racer 2 is indeed one of the best Racer of all time, so the argument still hold.
For me, this series, Dreamcast Shutoku 1,2, and PS2 Zero and 01, are the most entertaining games ever in my whole life, and the other series is Dynasty Warriors 1 and 2 on PS2

It took me a few years but i smoked all 400 racers. The last one sadly crashed in the begin of the race so it was a pity but by far best strekt race game ever.
I've been on the Shuto in real life, and it was because of TXR. I have also collected all the games in the series from Shutokou Battle 94, all the way to Shutokou Battle X, each game in Japanese and English. I had made it a goal to Japan when I found out the Shuto was real, and the game's Shuto used the actual map data. I rented the Evo 6 from Omoshiro. @@KingdomTwelve at least Tokyo xtreme Racer Drift 2 has wheel support and I highly recommend that game if you like zero. It has touge battles with life bars, but also various trials, ginkana and even rally events. Second best game in the series (also racers from Zero make cameos on Drift 2)

They didn't have all the rivals but it was a good play. I have multiple saves with a 100% completion. Dang, I think I'm going to bust out the 360 now. Lol
Fired up my PS2 for the first time in years just to play this game. Still the best racing game ever, IMO.

I would have loved to fill the gaps of what the cutscenes would have contained. Can't seem to find info on it on our side of the pond. I remember being very confused by suddenly unlocking the new areas and not getting any kind of dialogue or intro cutscene. It's like you know there's something that's supposed to be there and it's not lol
I used to have all of the Tokyo Xtreme racer games and still have Import Tuner challenge for the 360. The first game that got me hooked on Japanese car culture was Tokyo Highway Battle in the 90's. In the early 2000s i made several trips to Japan to feed my passion for cars and samurai history. Now my son is into JDM cars and playing Tuner Challenge. Lol
And yes, i used to own a few JDM cars. Lol

I recently rebought a ps2 and this was the first game I bought with it. I played this for hours and hours back in the early 2000s. I remember I picked up a copy at best but for $20 on Black Friday.
A kid in 9th grade shop class showed me this. Had my dad take me to get it, never put it down 👌🙌

I played zero and completed it 100%.

@@KingdomTwelve I want to say TXR3 is my favorite because of the iconic rivals, the three cities, the interesting non-JDM car choices (who would've expected a friggin' Pantera in that game?!), and the catchy-yet-annoying soundtrack.
However, I do have to say that Zero probably has a better soundtrack overall, a better car selection because of Honda alone even though it has the Gran Turismo problem of pointless multiple trims of the same cars, a better and more consistent difficulty curve compared to TXR3 even though Zero is more grind-heavy, and just the right amount of content so that it doesn't get too tedious in the later parts of the game whereas TXR3 can drag on at points.
Well, this game is simply an uplift of Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 on the Dreamcast released years before, and which had better speed sensation and better texture (but less realism graphic and light effect). It's essentially the very same game. That being said, Tokyo Xtreme racer 2 is indeed one of the best Racer of all time, so the argument still hold.
For me, this series, Dreamcast Shutoku 1,2, and PS2 Zero and 01, are the most entertaining games ever in my whole life, and the other series is Dynasty Warriors 1 and 2 on PS2

Just started playing it again. Had to buy a converter to play on my flat screen. Definitely need to make one for PS5.
If you have a PC, wide-screen patch, upscaling and a 4k mod does wonders. Although I think only TXR3 has a 4k mod right now.
I tought about it all day now to play this again. And getting another ps2. Any recommendations ??? of adapter I can get to use on my 4k tv to make it work what ever resolution I can get out of it. Definitely been thinking buying the xterme racer zero and 3rd one also. I would get a ps2 just for those 2 games.
Not sure on an adapter. I've been playing them on an emulator even though I have the original games.

I've been on the Shuto in real life, and it was because of TXR. I have also collected all the games in the series from Shutokou Battle 94, all the way to Shutokou Battle X, each game in Japanese and English.
I had made it a goal to Japan when I found out the Shuto was real, and the game's Shuto used the actual map data. I rented the Evo 6 from Omoshiro. I go back in about a month, I will be doing the same in their R34, and will do alot more videos.

Download the emulator PCSX2 and then search for the ROM for TXR0. Watch a tutorial and BAM. It's easy.

@@KingdomTwelve at least Tokyo xtreme Racer Drift 2 has wheel support and I highly recommend that game if you like zero. It has touge battles with life bars, but also various trials, ginkana and even rally events. Second best game in the series (also racers from Zero make cameos on Drift 2)

Not really. TXR3 had REALLY good car sounds. Even changing the exhaust would change the tone.
