Purpose of Class
This class shows students how to setup Port Forwarding on a Small Business Router and explains why Port Forwarding is important.
Class Notes
All networking protocols use specific pots. HTTP uses Port 80. FTP uses Port 21. Port Forwarding is telling the router to forward traffic on specific ports to specific computers on the network.
You can only forward one port to one computer. You would use other technology for load balancing or fault tolerance.
One Router can port numerous different ports to different computers.
All small Business Routers have different configuration screens.
If you are using Residential Internet Service your ISP MAY block certain ports such as Port 80.
Make sure to hit SAVE. If you don not save the configuration the Router will not forward the ports.
Do not mistake Configuration for Physical Ports with the Configuration screen for Networking Ports.

I love you and your tutorials.
Your are my brother and job saver.
God bless you dear.
Have happy family.
This is the absolute best teacher for IT related material that I have found on any channel so far.
A big thanks to you Eli, keep up the great job!
Красавчик! Идеальное произношение на английском. Понятно всё до единого слова. И очень хорошо объясняет, затрагивая простые моменты, о которых никто никогда не говорит, но которые могут быть причиной проблем и потерянного времени.
Спасибо большое!
The sound of your voice makes me feel like im in school again.
Only difference is i care more about this stuff and already know it :P
You are an amazing tutor..........thank you so much for sharing knowledge
Eli , thank you very much on your video. You are great. I'm in the security alarm industry . And I was never a computer guy. And as we all know now it's all about knowing computers. Especially now on ip cameras and nvr's . In high demand . You saved me a ton of money on taking a computer class to just learn port forwarding. For all DVR and NVR ip cameras. Thanks again
Thank you for this excellent video. This video was very helpful!
dude your the fn man I love your class you make me learn so quickly. in two weeks ive come so far. cant thank you enough
Eli, I´m from Argentina and I watch all the videos you upload. I´m working as an IT Cordinator and I gotta tell you something. You should learn at Universitys. Everything you say is very clean, very explicit, very understandable. Hands up for you!! Thank you.
Thank you Eli, your videos have been helping me a lot to understand networks, I always wanted to work with that.

Eli never disappoint! Thanks brother. Ive been coming to your channel since years ago if I need to learn something about computer. And I always learn from you after.
Its worst day while tweaking stuff on computer and trying to host a test page on apache from home based server. Until i stumbled on this well elaborated video. Thanks a ton!
Needless to say i came here after reading bunch of step-by-step methods on Stackoverflow and serferfault. I couldn't find better explanation than this.
Eli, you are an inspiration...got all of your training from experience and certifications rather than some computer science or engineering degree!
Eli ...Thanks a Ton ....i am now your student since last three weeks ..watching all your networking videos one by one, and learning , growing , and improving.
In India the Guru (Teacher) is respected by touching his feet...so accept my touch feet.

Your Student
Loved the straight forward way you discussed this!
This is the BEST channel on UA-cam! Thanks for sharing!
Thanx a lot!
Just reading the manual for my Netgear router was almost (!) like trying to understand hieroglyphs. You explained the basic concepts of port forwarding and that's what I was missing.
Eli I love you and your videos. Love the way you explain stuff to newbies.
Nice, clean instruction. Will look for others from Eli.
Thanks
yup... it's hard to remember all of those numbers while on camera sometimes ;)
That's very true.
Your videos are great man. Just a small mistake though. FTP is port 21 not 25.
Will www. Always be 80?
ftp is 21
Port is basically the connecting point/hub between a user and a server (to serve a specific service). An admin can configure & reconfigure and map port to access a service. To avoid the conflict, services have some sort of reserve port. For example, 3306 port is basically reserved for MySQL database. Anyone can run any web application on this port if it is free. Such randomness causes for difficulties and erroneous. That's why it's better to follow the reservation rules to avoid such problems. I think ELI configured his FTP to 25 that's why told that.
Eli I feel really bad when you leave you-tube. I've learn lot from you and this Ports section is very informative. thank you so much.. you're the best always!!!!
Thank you for these videos. You are so easy to understand and make complete sense. Keep up the great videos !
Awsume video dude, really very helpful. I tried so many times using socket programming using python and this is what I was missing, something they dont really teach while speaking about socket programming.
my question is what is the use of port forwording or howand why we use port forwarding
Eli, so very,very helpful.
Thank You!
perfect explanation and perfect speaking, i did not find any slow speaking in you ,however you were speaking crystal clear. awesome man. i am gonna subscribe your channel right away.
You meltdown this concept and pour in my throat!!! Now I absolutely know what the heck is that!!! Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
I don't know if the most awesome Eli covered this in the video, but to get port 80 working on my web server, I had to go into the web admin of my cable modem, putting incoming port 80 requests forwarded to WAN address of my router eg: 192.168.1.02, and then go into the router and put incoming 80 requests to the IP of my web server, eg: 192.168.2.103... I hope this helps. Eli, THANK YOU for your awesome service! I learn SO much.
Thank you very much, this explanation really really really helped me understand port forwarding. keep the good work up man.
Excellent description with great clarity.
thanks for speaking so clearly and emphasizing and stuff (on top of explaining concepts well)
Eli please keep up the good work, you're just great!
very useful knowledge . i appreciate your valuable skills and things
Thank you! Very well explained and easy to follow! This cleared up a few things that I was a little confused about!! Is there a security video on this as well?!
Another great video! Do this stuff all day at work and got stumped a lil today...this darn Westell couldn't handle it well, even though all was correct, then had to forward to the host name option instead. Zenmap immediately showed open. Good note on the Business vs Residential account. I am still learning...but had to go to NAT or Virtual Servers on some models do the exact same thing. Looking forward to more Networking videos. Very educational!! Thanx!
I'm trying to port forward my ps4. It was a NAT type 2, but after I did the port forward it still says NAT type 2, how can I tell if I did anything?
how do u port forward a remote administration tool on a at&t 2701hg-b 2wire wireless gateway DSL router???
Nice explanation. Was quite useful in understanding default gateway IP.
Would like to mention one small thing - the default gateway IP may not always be the same as the management IP for your router ....
Great Explanation.Thanks Eli
Great information, thank you Eli.
This was very helpful for a newby. Thanks.
MikroTik has conditional dst-nat where you could define that it should happen only for certain source addresses from a list or destination ips, or other conditions to implement load balancing. This enables us to make different clients see different services on the same port, or forward 2 public ips (if we have them) to 2 web servers without assigning those ips exclusively to the servers themselves. Most config happens via GUI.
Thank you Eli.
Great work! Now I know how this works. :D :D
Keep up the good work!
Thank you Eli, I learned a lot from that.
Check your firewall on the router...
Thanks man great video. Understood everything very smooth presentation

Awesome explanation ! Thank you. :)
This is great. Thanks Eli!
How would I test to find out if my specific port is open or closed by my ISP. Would I be able to set-up the port forwarding for FTP, for example, and attempt to access that through my phone to test if it is actually open?

Hi Eli...Can you have multiple host/users setup for port forwarding? does it have to be done individually or is there a way to all users at once being on same switch?
Thanks!
Hello Eli
Can you guide us the steps for DVR CCTV port forward at Asus router for home user and company fortinet or Cisco router and the DVR device configurations.
And pls explain how we select and determine what ports to be used in hands on video. Tks
Eli your awesome, man Best IT instructor Clear on everything tnx for your all Information and videos.
Hey Eli, I have been setting up port forwarding since 6 months, & really it has kept me up for nights...at first I didn't had a broadband connection, and that's why I got one, and now they gave me a static IP (the ISPs), but yet its a real pain for me.
I have checked on yougetsignal and also portforward checker application, It really shows that specific port is open (after forwarding ports on router page). After reading that, I felt great great relief. But, when I opened the game, & it showed me "cant connect to the server". I just completely lost faith in myself. I dont understand what to do more. I turned off firewalls, and also added the ports to windows firewall. But, not a single game I am able to play online.
I have watched many of your videos, & I know you are one of the most competent guys in this field. I was hoping if you could solve my problem. Actually, I am very much tired of typing all this issue on several forums, and what not. But, not have yet found a resolution.Thank you for reading this..
superb video regarding PORT forwarding. cleared my concept
nice video. Clear and understandable. It helped me!
Thank you very much for vivid explainations, it helped met my desires keep it up Eli.
can you do a complete teamspeak 3 server tutorial. including firewall enabling. and static ip
so if i had port forwarded port 80, at the dns, needs only the gateway internet ip address, then if accessed from a web browser will forward packet to port forwarded computer or is there something else that needs to be done for dns to work with port forwarded.
YES!! Finally, a shorter video!
John Malkovich sure knows his computers!
Statham just found out about the simple hair growth formula that "doctors hates".
thank for the training and info but does this work with IPv6 port filtering?
You have to buy multiple IP addresses from your ISP...
Do you have a video about port forwarding thought two routers? I have a modem with router plus my router hook up.
How would you know if ports were closed by the isp using a residential internet connection?
Hey! Very cool! Great stuff!
Nice. Awesome tutorials. U speak clearly i understand every single word.
We watch u here in Bosnia :)
