Hey I really like this video, but I have a question. I want to host my own minecraft server on my PC via port 25565. I've read about it, and it said that it could be dangerous. Is there any way to secure it?

What if two computers on the same network needed to use the HTTP protocol. When the router gets the IP address, and it has port 80 attached to it, how would it know which computer to send the information to?

I learnt more stuff about port forwarding in 9 mins than in my 3 hour class on port forwarding. You have a natural art of teaching well. I love your videos man. I can watch em all day long. Helps that he explains everything as it works in-situ, and the practical effects of it, making it very understandable by connecting to base concepts we tend to already know.

me too, i'm taking the google one, the bits and bytes os comuter networking, and i'm sick already from all that tricky quiz, a pain in the ass, and a guy talking and talking.. here in this channel i learn much more and free of charge.. i'll cancel my signature at coursera google
dude same!!! all these videos are maybe 5-7 min long and make it so simple to understand more than an entire semesters worth!!! my professors record themselves but when they talk they usually go down a rabbit hole smh and forget what they were talking about not to mention well at least my professors often talk like we got 25+ years of experience and knowledge under our belt like they do 🤦♂️
I can't stop watching these. Each one is something I already knew BUT it was refreshing, accurate and I learned that someone on UA-cam knows what they are doing in explaining shit.

I have been unlucky enough to view quite a number of "presentations" concerning Remote Desktop connections and related material (such as Port Forwarding), but all of them left me so frustrated and full of questions due to their scattered, vague, inconsistent and low-quality info that they had to offer.
Your presentation was nothing short of a revelation to me concerning the issue of connecting two computers belonging to to different LANs using Remote Desktop.
I cannot really tell whether it is the clarity of your language, your grasp of the subject, the calm tone of your voice, the carefully prepared audio and video material or the sum total of all these factors that make your presentations fully understandable, complete and easily applicable in the real world.

This does do a very nice job of explaining the process of port forwarding in a "friendly" environment. Next, we should address a more important issue, namely what to do with port forwarding over the open internet which is not populated by "friends" but by people whose sole purpose is to steal information and leave undetected. Microsoft products in their default configuration are often setup for indiscriminate sharing, a connection not desired over the open internet.

Thank you for explaining it in a simple, clear way that laymen can understand instead of a pretentious, self-satisfied, gatekeeping way that assumes the viewer already knows certain things.
A very good video for beginners. In many occasions, these kind of technical explanations are done by experts who would assume their readers to already know the most fundamental concepts, leaving a lot of question marks for those who want to understand fully. But this is so well done that you understand the concepts quite thoroughly.
I wish these videos were around about 20 years ago. It would have made my life a whole lot easier.

Doesnt the router forward using both a ip and port? The example makes it seem like only the port number is used to connect to device but its port and ip of device that initiated the request. This would give the idea that everyones internet will be blocked because someone assigned port 80 to their device
I've been port forwarding for nearly 20 years cause the internet blog forums tell me to for a game to work. Never understood what it was doing. Now I do. Great video!

I understand the part where you have to enter to the port number to bypasss the firewall. but, where does the Public IP number 66.94.34.13 number come from? And how do I find this ip number?
That's just a generic IP address I made up. If you want to find your IP address, go to www.ipchicken.com and that will tell you your IP address.

Well, I've got a question .... what if two computers💻,💻 which both have port 80, have their entries in the port forwarding table with the same port number although different IP addresses...then which computer is the router going to forward the packet to?
To the computer with matching IP address obviously.

Excellent animations, good comparison to companies departments. But: you should at least mention, that port forwarding can be a highly dangerous thing! Do not hide the dark force of internet!
So @2:38 you show that 192.168.1.1 is the *internal* router IP address...
...but @4:09 you all of the sudden show a completely different router IP address. I assume this is the *external* IP address that your ISP provided you? The IP address that the Internet sees? I wouldn't have been able to guess that without having been taught it before. Newbies would be lost.
It's also confusing that @2:56 you call the *internal* router IP address simply the "IP address of the router" when it's REALLY important in this context to distinguish that it's the *internal* IP (as opposed to the *external* one shown @4:09).
As other is pointing out, these videos are great for refreshing knowledge and etc. I believe these videos are great for visually understanding the material that you read. You would not try and gain CCNA cert by watching these videos only.

Finally successfully setup port forwarding on my modem/router after all these years. The manufacturers of the modem/routers I owned didn't do a good job to make their user guide comprehensible enough. Thank you sir. Now I would like to know about port triggering.
