    Another way I’ve found to ride completely alone, is to organise a meet up with one other person who you organise with beforehand won’t join you. When creating the meet up, select the option to make it ‘meet-up only view’. Join the meet-up and voila! You’re on your own where you can free ride or do a workout!
    Found that one out when my friend had to bail last minute and I had a lovely ride to myself!

      When I used Zwift I used to do this as well. You can't see other riders, but they can still see you. Similar on Rouvy where you can turn off other riders, but they can still see you. Out of sight, out of mind. 🙂

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic

      For sure! Meetups and club rides definitely work, and I actually made a video some time back using Meetups as a hack to change courses without having to restart Zwift when you used to have to leave the program. I find the workout hack a bit faster, but if you're planning your ride on companion earlier in the day, it's an awesome option!

    Teddy is getting lessons from Brian. "Oh let them want me. I play by my own rules." Now ACB refuses to sit on the couch because I swiped the fur off. I started brushing him and putting the fur on the couch which kinda negates the whole brushing concept.... He is still pissed. But I digress. Excellent points which outclaased the Bike Radar video. I better change my name in case anyone sees me aimlessly riding around. My latest funny occurrence is people ride with me in case I am recording 😂. Great job, Sarah!

    Coming from a racing background staying disciplined is not always easy in Zwift. I raced on Tuesday after a few days off and travel. My Whoop said go for it. I felt good. I raced on a fairly hilly course and while I couldn't stay with the main group at the front I worked hard in the second group and sprinted up hill with what I had. It was a great race. Today, I know I need to stay within Zone 2. Otherwise, I can't race again later this week. The easy days are just as important if not more than the hard efforts. I can say riding Zone 2 or a recovery ride on the road is much more boring, to me, than riding in Zwift where the sounds and other riders offer enough immmersion but lets me focus on my ride. Time goes by fast when Zwifting. Great video as always.

      Thank you! And that's so true. When you are on one of those weeks that your bike feels chainless, its easy to keep pushing. It's not like a hot stove though... We get burned by the overtraining bug more than once 😂

    Training with a buddy can be helpful. A couple of years ago my dear friend Susan and I started Zwift's "Build Me Up" training program together. For both of us this was our introduction to structured training. We agreed to a schedule, and for every workout we setup a banded Zwift Meet-Up with just the two of us. The banding was key -- it allowed us to do our workouts independently but stay together on the route. Bike Radar may call this a distraction, but for us it was motivational.

      An accountability partner can be a great way to 'force" adherence for sure! It's lower friction on Zwift than it is pretty much anywhere else too!

    I completely agree that mixing it up on longer rides is key to keep from going nuts or getting bored. I did the PRL Full yesterday and I would mix up when I would push it up Box Hill or hit the coffee break and walk away. I set a new PR 3 times and had fun chasing down my little ghost avatar on the loop. It's 11 laps so I had to do something to keep from going mad!

    I like my dual screen setup: big one in front of me, small one on 2 o'clock. Race or intervals I use the big one for zwift and the small one for spotify. Endurance I move zwift to the side and watch a film, youtube etc. on the big screen.
    I also quite enjoy group training events (in ERG mode) where everybody stays together no matter their W/kg.

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  6 місяців тому

      Dual screens are great for a dedicated Zwifting setup. I use a larger TV these days connected to a PC, but I have been considering a small touchscreen monitor a little closer to my handlebars to use for media controls or to pull Zwift onto when I might want to put media on the TV. Glad you get good ysd out of yours!

    I’m always amused by the reaction to “ what others are doing.” Who cares, especially on an indoor ride. Sometimes I’ll succumb if I’m just riding with no clear zone or target output in mind . It’s more of a session to “ just get on the bike.” I have used pacers to do zone 2, because I find I tend to push beyond that on my own. I’m not training for a race or ride, just looking to keep my fitness levels up and be prepared for longer outdoor rides. When I’m targeting a specific zone or output I’ll pick a Zwift training program to give me the needed discipline and structure. The one place I do succumb to is the segment hologram that I almost always look to improve on, and then “my plan” goes out the window. Maybe I need to turn those off in my settings.😂

    Pace partners are weird- always seem to be too low in w/kg or too high for what type of endurance ride I want to do.... Country to Coastal in Makuri being one of them...I always find that on climbs I leave the pacer behind and get warnings to let them catch up, then suddenly find I've dithered over the crest of a hill and the robo pacer is off like a shot, I've had to use an "aero" power up on the descent to catch the group!!

    I don't make comments on UA-cam very often, but felt motivated to offer up two. First, at the risk of sounding like a creepy old man, young lady you are from having an 'ugly mug*. As a male of the human species who's been around for over 3/5 of a century I think I have some credibility. Stop believing the BS that we are bombarded with constantly about who is attractive, what's a real cyclist wear, etc. It. Is. All. Pure. Bovine. Excrement. Second, thank you doing these videos. I suspect you have a "real" job and the time and effort you put into your channel is greatly appreciated by this shlub. I'm a fat, slow, olg guy who's been cycling for 4 decades and each of your videos teach me something. Free bit of unsolicited advice to end on: Anyone who claims to have learned it all about a subject is ignorant in the saddest way. Stay safe and ride on! John

    I just try to make things as easy as possible and combine training with something i like. And as a gamer that's where my method lies. When Baldur's Gate 3 came out i did 3-4 hour rides pretty much each day while playing the game. But i'm extreme: 17 hours in week is decent amount of training for me.
    Currently i have aerobars on my bike with board fixed into it, enough for small keyboard and mouse. And i have stationary bike as well if i rather sit at desk (or want to play PS or Xbox in living room).
    Even movies or series can't keep me engaged like that. Zwift or any other indoor cycling app can't get even close. So i just let the cycling app run on the background on ERG mode and pay no attention to it.

    I don't have an outdoor bike, but have been zwifting for 6 months now, and gone from 160 ish ftp to 220, while loosing 10 kg. I'm 180 cm and 78,5 kg right now. I can't figure out if i'm fooling myself regarding the trainer difficulty. I have it set to 50% all the time. So a simple question: I f i buy an outdoor bike for this summer, will it be a great dissapointment for me, because i can ride longer and harder on zwift, or how the hell is that trainer difficulty supposed to work? I kinda wish it didn't exist.

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  6 місяців тому +1

      I don't think you'll be disappointed riding outdoors at all. If you have steeper hills in your area, you might find they feel different and you may be forced into a easier gear or even run out of gears and ride a very low cadence to get over them, but if you are like most people with modest climbs, you may notice a difference, but you won't find yourself unable to navigate. Just temper expectations at first. Maybe shoot for half of your average Zwift ride the first time as you get used to navigating in the real world. Or use a smaller loop that swings you by your house or car several times so you have a ball out. You'll get used to it in very short order and gain confidence.
      The bottom line is, at 50% you're not fooling yourself at all. The climbs in Zwift are not a mirror for most people's riding environments. 50% is giving you plenty of difficulty to be capable, just expect it to maybe feel a bit harder on a similar grade climb 😊
