    Great video, thanks. 👍
    So, would it be better instead of doing my standard workout of 60 mins at 200w (10XP/min), to do, say, 199w for 10mins, 200w for 10 mins, 199w for 10 mins etc., in order to get the 12XP/min for blocks of "intervals"?!...
    Thanks!

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  3 роки тому +3

      Yes, BUT when you are using workout creator you have to drag over the block that says "intervals" not each zone block individually. It defaults to 4 sets but you can use the plus and minus to do as few as 2 and I'm not sure what the upper limit is. Then you can drag the lengths of the upper and lower block to your desired length and all of the intervals will change.

      I was thinking just do a short warm-up regular block then a 1 or 2 hour interval block at whatever watts desired then a short cooldown block?

      @@hutchy_4297 you could set it up that way maybe you do one hour broken up by a one minute then another hour followed by a one minute then your cool down that would make up the pairing you need and you should get the full earnings for the period time you are in the workout block. So it would be zone block or ramp block (depending on your warmup preference) then one long interval block with 2 intervals followed by whatever you choose for a cool down block. A 2 hour interval block will be a nice 1,440 points plus the little extra you'd get from warmup and cooldown

    One more useful tip. 60 seconds of a zone block gets you 10XP, but 62 seconds gets you 11XP. So when it comes to recovery ride I'm using 60x62sec blocks of 50% FTP.
    But now it seems like it's even better to mix in some intervals. Will try, thanks 👍

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah its kind of strange when they drop in points. You will definitely make out better with intervals. You could technically use workout builder and drag an interval block over and just set your intervals to the same or close power( I didn't realize you could until I went back into workout builder recently and saw you could technically drag those blocks to be the same power-as long as it is an interval block and not paired zone blocks). It's probably a little lame to do it lol but its their own fault for structuring it like that. Give more points for intensity and people wouldn't do such things 😎

  • @cooperk4

    I am all for using the rules of the game to their limits to maximize your earning potential on Zwift. I have a bunch of 30 and 60 min interval workouts, each interval set to 62 seconds with 5% up and down to keep it interesting. For example, I have a 30 min and a 60 min workout with 62 second intervals of 95% and 100% of my upper Z1 limit, the next two workouts are 5% vascillating around my low Z2, the next two for high Z2, two for Z3 and one for threshold. That way, I can climb Zwift at whatever power I want and earn 49XP every 248 seconds. GP Llama did the math on it a year or two ago and this was the most lucrative over the course of a workout. The shortest interval block is 2x2 (4 min), and if you have to prematurely end your workout (ie I got to the top of the Alpe and now I want to benefit from the distance-calculated XP on the descent), you don't have to lose the workout-related progress like you would if you had a 30 min interval to earn that star. //end nerd rant//. I love your breakdown of the equivalent MPH you need to go to earn these amounts... if I'm on a TT bike in Fuego Flats, no workout is going to touch me for pure XP earned. Even more so on the crit city course with the two arches per lap which translate to XP only on the TT bike.

    There seems to be very little commentary on the tubes about Zwift training plans. It also seems that athletes who are competing are not using Zwift training plans. Of course I can be completely wrong. Yes, the ZWO file translates to Zwidt seamlessly. The biggest caveat is that the interval repeats for the 12 points need to be written as interval blocks (2 step or 3 step repeats in TP) if you manually drag zone blocks in a repeating fashion, it will only read it as the block at zone for 10 points.

    another reason not to do an interval workout up the Alpe is that it will skew your PR's for a lot of segments therefore making those PR's not realistic for future comparison.

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  3 роки тому

      I suppose you could make that argument, the segments are probably a poor barometer to use in the first place though. It would almost be better to use an overall countdown timer in conjunction with those segments to see what your ETA would be at a particular power output. A lot of the better overall times are coming from steadier state efforts with perhaps slight rises in power at the switchbacks followed by a very brief "recovery" when the grade dips under 7%. If I am targeting an effort or time, I have a better appraisal by hitting the lap timer on my Garmin and looking at my NP during the effort. I know if I want to go sub 1 hour, I have to be around 3.2 W/kg if I want to go faster I need to adjust that. I get your point though. If Zwift actually held that data in perpetuity, it would be more damaging, but that data dumps I believe it is still 30 days so those peak efforts would fall off. As for Strava, I'm not sure how many people are looking at that, unless of course, they are in the top 10 😉

    Unrelated drops earning question but I have hunch you know the answer...
    Do drops earnings max out at a multiplier of 2? More specifically what happens when I'm following a pace partner, have a multiplier going and then get a ride on? Does the ride on multiply the multiplier? Could I potentially be earning 4X drops for the 15sec periods when the multiplier is maxed and then I get a ride on? Am I making any sense? Please help answer this ridiculous question.

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  3 роки тому +1

      Lol I can help you... Ok so drops are built on effort, the higher the watts the higher the earnings, you've probably seen that. Beyond that, there is a substantial benefit while climbing at 9% its about 65% more drops than the same power on the flats. I don't know all the math at every grade, but you earn more for your effort while going up. For pace partners, yes the max multiplier is 2.. But the shitty part is that you will only earn that 2X multiplier for about 7.5 minutes after the 30 minutes it takes to get there then you start the cycle again. The ride on still doubles on top of that, so theoretically, if you followed a pace partner up a climb at 2X multiplier and started a ride on party, you wouldn't be able to even process the numbers lol. But coco these days had been solid, if you can make sure you stay in the 10m bubble, people just dump ride ons all day, you can easily get 40k+ in an hour

    • @EverythingIsPhotogenic
      @EverythingIsPhotogenic  3 роки тому

      Not cheating at all, you're doing the work, there's no reason you shouldn't collect the XP on Zwift. It's no different than doing workouts you've written down in free ride mode. When it comes down to XP the difference ends up being so negligible in the long run (on average) that focusing on one mode of earnings or the other gets you to the "finish line" at about the same rate. I use TR all the time for their plans but need something less boring to look at so I pair it with Zwift. I should be getting some training content out soon. I wanted to get these done over the holidays as most people are maybe setting up their trainers and new subscriptions and now that people are back to normal life and all set up they'll be ready for more training related content.
