Who knew this 56 year old was so very trendy? Long shorts made out of old jeans, wearing trainers with work clothes (due to a problem with my Achilles tendon), ultra short hair, a raffia basket and wearing black linen. Hurrah! You've made an older lady very happy. And your hair looks gorgeous x
Yay!! Love that!!
I could have written this! 56 year old, major tenon issues/ flat feet/ shopping for shoes SUCKS! I have shoulder length fine hair that is not exciting....going for my annual haircut and colour Wednesday and now I am considering doing something drastic.
@@louisevessey3839 Do it and join the club! Fine hair looks beautiful and more full when cut short.
@EmilyWheatley If are really 56, that's amazing! You are very youthful looking and hot for that age! Very healthy looking too!
Wigs are my favorite accessory. Messy bun add ons to skimpy ponytails adds so much to the look for us hair challenged folks.
I've been doing a summer hair shave for at least six years. Started out with just a side shave and now do a full-on shave and my hair stylist carves designs into it. It's so freeing. A yearly hair reset. I've also started losing my hair above my forehead from alopecia due to lichen planopilaris and I find, counter-intuitively, that you don't notice it as much when it's all shaved off.
I love that so much!! And I can see that being the case with the hair loss. That was partially why I went even shorter because of my postpartum hair loss. Seem to make it less noticeable. Thank you for your comment!
I wear black all year round, It’s my signature color
I'm here for 90s looks, but as a woodsy PNW chick, I never did the 501s, I always wore 512s or one of the other bootcut styles. Actually at one point I even wore my dad's old bell bottoms from the 70s 🤣😎. I thought I was SO cool.
You are a funny girl.I love your style so much. These fashion tips are great for everyone.I am german,i am 60 jears old and your styling tips also works for me.😍
Oh I'm so glad to hear that! That's great!
Love the idea of short hair but I gotta tell you, after menopause (and I know you have a ways to go), hair growth is SUU..UU..UUPER slow. So that is definitely something to keep in mind that it might not be quite as quick a fix as one thinks after the cut. (Yep, learning this through experience!)
Same here
Ditto. My fine, almost straight hair also became so thin that short is really the only option. AND it went really curly! My hairdresser says this is not unusual. I refuse to argue with my hair, so I am learning to rock curls.
My hair has grown super slowly my whole life. As I get into perimenopause, I barely need one trim a year! If i went short now, I'm pretty sure that would be it for life 😂
@@katerose8393 yep. I'm on a 2 trim/year schedule right now with my bob. I won't do a pixie until I absolutely have to (might be sooner than I wish)
I have not experienced my hair to grow slow, actually it's quite the opposite (always and also after menopause). My hair grows at least 2 cm per month. And I have some gray hair too, trying to get used to that.
Both my parents were hairdressers and always stressed how important a good haircut is to your style and to give you style! I did not always agree with their"advice" but this is one of them that I always followed even when money was tight....
Your hair is the smartest thing you can wear!
I've been cutting older joggers into Bermuda shorts.
That was fun, Emily.❤
Mermaidcore just makes me think of pukka shell necklaces that all the guys were wearing when I was a teenager waaay back in the 70's, lol.
Thanks for the great tips, to stay on trend without spending too much.
You bet! :-)
I go Ultra short every 5 years. I also absolutely love baby bags. 😁 When my hair is long I usually have baby bags.
I find it hilarious that so many of these "trends" are from the nineties yet anyone who was growing up then can attest to how anything considered trendy was a serious faux pas! 🤣 Having a coolness factor and following trends just didn't equate. Confidence is key to anything you do, including what you wear. Be comfortable with who you are first, and confidence will follow. Forget anyone who helps you feel anything but. Do you your way, whether it be with the status quo or against it. 🤙🏻
My favorite black linen dress is very long. Wore it one day to walk the dog and it began to rain…hard. Was drenched to the skin and that dress grew longer and heavier…luckily it was black because I was going commando. Best 50 cent thrift find ever…still have it 25 years later…ah those were the days, eh? Been contemplating dying some cream colored linens black. I know I’d get more wear out of them.
Great inspirational ideas! I shortened a few of my summer midi dresses to knee length because I decided shorter is more flattering and I’m excited to style my “new” dresses! To me baby bangs infer that the wearer is someone who’s artsy, intellectual and confident. I just haven’t been confident enough to try them, lol. But I will incorporate the raffia bag and belt trends as well as mermaid core since I already have those items.
I love the rosette!
Love this video! Going to do the flower neck tie today!🤩🙏
Oh yay! Love that! Have fun styling it!
I'm off to cut some pants. Thanks for the idea.
I’ve been raiding my son’s shorts that he grew out of ….a really nice pair of Banana Republic plaid linen.
Ditto 👍🏻
short hair vs ballerina bun. interesting trends opposing each other....lmao. and don't get me started on those fugly baby bangs. no. no one looks good in those. no one. these are all such great tips! have had some bermuda shorts for a few years and then not knowing what to do with them, if they were on trend or just frumpy. these tips are helping me prep for a trip from sw fla up north to ohio later this summer. love your vibe!
Interesting, I'm in my 70s and those shorts aren't what we called Bermuda shorts. Those jeans were called "cut offs" regardless of whether they were manufactured at that length. Our Bermuda shorts were tailored, like slacks. We wore them with matching knee-high socks and loafers in winter since they were beautiful wool. Or they were plaid cotton for summer.
Well said. I’m 68.
100 percent correct.
You're 1 of the only stylists I haven't tired of! I am short waisted and 58 any tips for us lower to the ground people?
I dress traditional with one or two edgy pieces. Shoes, scarfs, and jackets. Keeping it fun. But my hair 😙🤨 So, I asked my hairdresser for a shorter edgy cut. Her response.. how edgy do you want to go. 🤔😘 please bring in pics of your definition of a edgy haircut. 😂😂😂 Jennifer is a well seasoned hairdresser. Love her. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🥰 I discovered a rosette in my scarf bin. 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Great video!😊
I have very short hair and can style it with baby bangs. For those of us older gals with salt and pepper hair, I have gray all around my face. if I style it with the bangs swept to the side. My face is framed with silvery gray which is also very on-trend. I find that short hair works best on faces that are small and fine-boned. Also great for thinning hair, as the layers give it volume!
Love your hair!
Thank you!!
Love your hair, keep the length on top like you have it ❤gorgeous!
I used to hate dressing for summer because I just feel more comfortable with a third piece (I don’t like my arms) but Linen blazers saved my life! I used to wear skirts and tees all summer, which theoretically sounds cute but it just wasn’t me. I’ve realized there’s nothing wrong with some breezy pleated trousers that’s more my jam, I still do a skirt or dress every now and again though. BTW, I’m completely and totally here for summer black. And sneakers?? Don’t get me started this summer 😂❤❤
💜
I second had radia bags
$300 raffia "fanny bag" comes in a few colors but In sure u'll love it!!
You killed me at minimalist but I continued to listen. 😂
I LOVE baby bangs on other people, but I’ve never thought I could pull them off. I have a wide, circular face shape and a tiny chin. Maybe I’ll take the plunge this summer, though!
Wondering if a person exists that got baby bangs and does not regret it…
Question…. I’d like to make some cut-off Bermudas, what type of leg opening should I start with? I’m 65, 6 ft and very short waisted, 34” inseam, 163 pounds, and I do have a little “meno belly.” Should I use straight leg? Wide leg? Capris? Also, what type of top should I wear? Oh, and I LOVE your hair! I wear mine short, but my honey doesn’t want me to go too short. 😢 Thank you so much. 😊
You’re 65. Do whatever you want. You DON’T need permission from anyone.
why not adjust the camera angle so we dont see so much of the ceiling and more of the outfit??
Love I adore bangs but curly hair I Florida is a disaster lol
Curley/wavy/ frizzy hair is bad anywhere!! I'm Caucasian btw.
I don't know who needs to hear this but... Don't be seduced by the bangs!! Don't doooo iiittttt!! You've cut bangs several times in your life and hated them. You know who you are! 😂😂😂
No to the baby bangs.
Baby bangs and baby doll dresses is very cultish - let's all say no to that!
Just watched this is Antwon and this video b2b, and realized they have the same haircut.
You seem like you have a classic body shape or maybe Dramatic classic.
I love this channel but not so much for the summer episodes . It’s geared for younger generation . I am 67 and can use the other ideas but found summer ideas is not for my generation . Will wait for fall ideas
Most people I see in burmuda shorts could wear a nice skirt to look much better.
No to black in the summer. So hot.
Did my 8 year old suggest these trends🙄🫣 mermaids, haircut like a toddler cut your fringe but up in a bun and horse rosettes. But short hair too?? Good grief. I’m glad I’m not fashionable. No wonder fast fashion goes to landfill so quickly.
Emily, I love your style but I’m not loving the mermaidcore for you. Um….no…. Xoxo
