I truly wish that this program was something more available all over the United States and I wish people would be able to take advantage of this instead of sending these poor old old horses to auctions instead of just putting them down happily peacefully and not sending them through hell in their golden years. I really love this

Agreed! And please don't be selfish by keeping them in constant pain just because you don't want to let them go! Love on them as much as need to, then take them to the vet or as this person and I agree, cuddle them while the vet does their job. Also, I learned this the hard way and am scared for life!!! Pay for extra drugs that get them very stoned before the final injection, you'll have less pain from having to let them go this way as you will know they did not feel a thing.

I commend you for helping them to go to greener pastures in the most humane way possible. Thank you.

This is a good way to help out end of life horses AND their people. Sort of a hospice for horses, even though it includes euthanasia. But much easier on the animals, as you’ve said and helping people to own their responsibilities or help families handle their deceased relatives’ aged horses.

I think the new program is an excellent idea, instead of trying to cart these elderly horses away from homes they've known for so long you allow them to gently drift away in the comfort of their own home. No stress of a new place filled with new horses, sights, and sounds. Plus these horses often have very age related health problems such as arthritis and lack if teeth.
Daphne, what the heck was your problem?! It's crazy that she just suddenly decided "I want to be a massive problem," especially when she's clearly not had any reaction like that before.

For those who do not know it is called "Pining". They love their owners so much that when taken from them, they would rather die than be without them. This part is only my opinion, I believe they also suffer from the emotion "betrayal", just as you or I would feel when dumped! I am not guilt free from this myself and pay the price daily from years back because of it when I did not understand!

Oh damn, Daphne really needs some solid ground work, she is so used in walking all over you that she doesn't care anymore.
But I am glad she didn't panic much more when she got stuck, after she noticed she can't get out she was like: Okay! I got me in that mess.... now you there get me out...
Could have been much worse if she panicked in that situation and got herself and you guys hurt. But yeah, she really needs halter training, especially not just walking right through people all the time or somebody will end up getting seriously hurt at one point.
Hope the best with the lovely fur friends

This is a great service for Pony Tales to be able to offer.. l don't understand some owners when they have an old horse who is just not in good condition and has medical issues..what do they think you can do.? You're not miracle workers..and think of the stress on the horse..loaded on a trailer to somewhere they don't know with strangers no matter how loving you are..l think this is a great service Cindy .. its not that you don't want to rescue them..these two horses were past rescue health wise..just look at those cancerous growths on Queenie..they were bad and she was the younger horse..!
My goodness gracious what an eventful episode..!! Halo is in so much pain bless her..l hope something cam be done..Molly..well Pauly got her feet in good condition then the new owners ignored his advice on her shoes and she has had to go through all this again..!! THEN..OH MY LORD..was it Daphne ?.. l didn't think you were going to get her out of those stocks !! Ive never heard so many bleeps from Pauly..!! Even when he comes across stupid stuff..that was absolutely frightening..!! That poor draft..got a pinched nerve from an ill fitting harness..these people just dont give a 💩 do they..!! .. I hope rest helps him and he can be lightly ridden..like kids..that would be idea as like most drafts..they're just so damn gentle..a 48 minute episode..l say YAY..bring it on..more please 😂 great that Molly and Happy are adopted together and that surrendered Penny is ok..🇬🇧💕✝️🙏👍👏🌈🐎🐎🐎🇺🇸

Yes, it's a thankless decision to have to put an old and sick beloved pet down but their end needs to have their family with them at that time. I was with all of our dogs at their end. They breathed their last breath out and I breathed their last breath in. They knew they were loved and safe in the end. It hurts, a LOT but I HAD to be with them. I hugged them, told them how much we loved them. No matter how much time goes by I never forget their last minutes and seeing them calm and trusting while they go.

I think this program for the old horses is truly the best decision. If these horses end up on greener pastures anyway, but with added stress and suffering if you had to take them in first, then it is way more humane to put them down. I can totally understand the owners not wanting their beloved pets to pass away, but it is not worth the added suffering. I cannot stand the kind of animal owners who keep making their animal survive as long as possible, when the whole way till the end the animal just suffers more and more. I have lost beloved pets before, and I know how hard it is, but at some point it is just more cruel to keep the animal suffering.

So appreciative your rescue is able to offer this option, when appropriate. THAT is truly an act of love, care and all-encompassing responsibility.
Had to put my 28 yr old Belgian mare down last March. She was a PMU survivor I adopted at 12 yrs old and paid for by the pound!
Thankfully, a neighbor provided a backhoe to properly bury her here on my farm after my vet gently put her down. She was starting to have difficulty keeping good body condition and pain-free from arthritis, despite supplements, pain meds, etc. The cost of the euthanasia drugs was over 2x for a light horse. I was barely able to cover that sudden cost. The backhoe service was gifted to me and made it possible to spare her being trailered anywhere.
She nickered to me as I approached with her halter and calmly stood while she was first sedated, then euthanized. She will never be forgotten, nor will the wonderful vet & neighbor who helped me care for her that one last time. Forever loved.

I'm truly sorry for your loss..but you are obviously a good and loving horse 🐎 owner..who made that hard but right decision to give your beautiful horse the last act of kindness..and you were there so not in a strange place with strange and new people or sent into the slaughter pipeline to make a last bit of money..!! I just wish there were more responsible owners like you.. Cindy offering this service..and IT IS a service..that the horse cam be in their home..with their owner..no extra stress of loading into a trailer..the travel..getting out somewhere new..all of that is extra stress..you not being there..this is the right way to do it..and it would have been the same result if Pony Tales had taken them in..the 35 yr old was in poor body condition and look at the cancer in the 28 yr old Queenie..that was bad. MUCH BETTER this way..still so sad..broke me seeing the young lady hugging them..but gosh the best way to cross over the 🌈 bridge..peacefully..they can run free together again..🇬🇧💕✝️🙏👍👏🐎🐎🇺🇸

Thank you for saying what you said - so many animals need this act of kindness - if only people understood the emotional trauma senior or sickly animals suffer - more animals would not be left at shelters, passed to someone else or just dumped. There are cases that people have literally dumped their old or sickly horse - excellent video

I have nothing but admiration and respect for all of you. Giving horses the option of passing peacefully from their long term homes is such a gift.

You handled this end of life service in such a good way. The photos conveyed the sadness and compassion of the owners.

Not the first farrier I ever heard say they hate glue ones. Every single farrier I've ever worked with hates them. Lol

People don't understand that part of stewardship of this world is that we must also know when it's time to help a soul move on to their afterlife with dignity respect and compassion. It's difficult, but it is best that they know a good life and then a painless end than to suffer and slowly degrade. We owe them far more than that sort of life.

I love that you are able/willing to go help horses cross over at home. Such a big difference for them at the end of their life to be where they have lived and been loved and go together.
Also, I LOVE the whistle for Pauly's slips. . . he's so dramatic. Hope his back is going to be ok. Silly Daphne. Love this episode.

    Just a suggestion
When holding a horse for the farrier, slightly turn the head towards the side the farrier is doing. Plus, if the horse was going to act up, you were already in the correct position to move the horse away.
Also, I appreciate the fact that you guys know when to put a horse down . Not many will do this ..

I have never heard Pauly swear so much! Wow! Daphne did a number on Pauly! It is not easy being a farrier when you have to deal with troublesome horses! I admire Pauly for doing what he does!

Thanks for guiding people through the right choice, however painful it must be. I'm making a very modest donation; use for whatever you need, but know that it was this sad story that spurred me to give.

Knowing they are together at the "bridge" with no stress, pain, or fear brings me peace. It took a lot of strength to make that decision to set them free. As always, you have the horses best interests at heart.

It is very difficult to do, but there is a point when they're suffering and that suffering will continue, often getting worse until the end comes naturally. You have to ask yourself if you keep putting them through the pain for their sake or your own and be honest. I think sometimes the owner just needs some reassurance that it is the right thing to do because it can be extremely difficult to know where to draw the line. Many people underestimate or even deny that animals have emotions like grief, but they do. They might not show it in ways that we recognize, but it's there. I've taken in older horses that had lost their lifelong pasture mate that would never bond with another horse and some just seemed to give up completely.

For respect and dignity, full marks! Filming was definitely not the thing to do. Thank you and Dr Kristen for being these horses’ best refuge in the face of unnecessary upheaval and chaos. Good for the family making the unselfish choice!❤️❤️

Love you always hugs and kisses 💋 to all of you, you did the right thing, I've put down 5 horses over the years and they are all buried here on my home place, 2 were in their thirties and the other 3 were for different health reasons, so as hard as it is, you did the right thing , love your videos as always!
