OEM bit holder from Milwaukee is part # 49-16-3697 and for those interested in getting the matching boot for the gen3 impact driver as well, that part # is 49-16-3453. Put the boot on first and then the bit holder.
Thank you for making this video and sharing some info. This helped me with my decision!
Whatd you go with
Cool video.
Really interesting to see theres not a ton of difference in power between the two m12 impacts. I have the surge and really enjoy the precision.
I agree. The surge makes the regular impact feel like it’s working too hard
Gen 3 m12 seems to have changed the ergonomics ever so slightly. Take a look at where the web between your thumb and index finger goes. It’s angled differently. I noticed this between the gen 2 and gen 3 impact drivers. I also kept bumping into the forward/reverse button on the gen 3, and never really noticed that on the gen 2
I was just thinking about getting a bit clip like that.I have a surge on the way that was on sale.Looks nice !
I hope you enjoy it! Here's the bit holder I got from Amazon. It fits, holds the bits well, and stays out of the way enough.

I just got my m12 surge today and I compared it to my coworkers m18 impact driver and the difference in noice is INSANE! You just gotta trust me on this one. I initially though the bit was slipping in the screw because there was so little tactile and audible feedback.. I'm just saying the sound difference is just MASSIVE..
I understand impacts are loud but I’ve never felt the need to wear ear protection… maybe I have a lot of hearing loss I guess
I'm wondering how the M12 Surge compares to say the M12 3/8" stubby with a 1/4" bit adapter.
I bet Milwaukee will update the Surge to 500-550 in-lbs. The Ridgid Stealth does 650, so the M18 Surge Gen 2 might have at least that much. Just a guess.
Great vid! M12 Surge now on my list.
that would be interesting to see, though in my mind they occupy different situations. Impact driver for screws, impact wrench for bolts.
I would love a new generation of surge, would hope to see the tri-LED at least.
And…. I’m keeping my surge! Thanks!
Awesome! Glad this video was some help
Inch pounds, not foot pounds. The high torque is rated at 1500 ft lbs. This is 1500 in lbs.
You are correct and thanks for pointing that out. I never caught that.
Still the Belt Clip is not really usable for a normal leather Belt. I switched the original Belt clip of the Gen3 for the one tjat you find on the installation driver and the stapler
Do you have a link to what you switched to? This sounds like something I’m looking for.
@@CreachterZ Its the Belt Clip of the M12 Installation driver or the Staple gun. Its just a bit bigger and wider
@@Zozo806 Thank you, sir!
where did u buy the bit holder?

listed as brand BT//FX
@@someProject Thanks order now!
I'm an electrician.. surge is the best!
I’m with ya! Once you go hydraulic impact you really can’t go back
I’m not sure what happened here but I’ve gone through three M12 surges. The first one the collar broke off and I couldn’t find it and so I took it to Home Depot and they just gave me a new one. It would’ve been an easy fix though the second one got stolen and so I had to pick up a third one.
I had the second generation impact M 12 and I just picked up the third generation a few months ago, and the surge is absolutely positively nowhere near as powerful as either of those generations. You can find 1 million UA-cam videos about the M 12 surge versus the regular M 12 in every situation the M 12 annihilate the surge. I mean it’s not even close. Unless I had three defective surge M 12 drills, this video is not accurate at all. All I do is construction work, and the M 12 surge is under powered and heavy although it does have its uses I have the M18 surge. And with the small 2.0 battery it is not that much heavier than the M 12 surge with the six amp battery. Honestly the M 12 surge is not that quiet compared to the M 18 surge. The emetine surge is much more ergonomic and lighter weight and better balance than the regular M 18 impact driver, I love the M 18 surge it handles everything. But my go to tool is the third generation M 12 impact. It is insanely powerful and lightweight and I wear headphones all day with noise canceling so the noise does not bother me at all.
I’m the opposite, I’ve went through 3 M12 impacts lol. I want to like them because they’re so light and compact, but they just haven’t offered any advantage over the surge.
I keep a Kobalt XTR impact (2400 in-lbs) for anything I for some reason can’t tackle with the Surge or hammer drill.
I do appreciate your response and experience. Ultimately you’re the one doing the work!
Is this strong enough to do tapcons?
Yes I think any brushless drill would be. This has no problem with 1/4 tapcons I’ve used in concrete
The surge version is ok? I have already the other one and I know it’s enough for tapcons but it’s so loud in an underground garage when I’m doing EMT
@@Joenelnyep the Surge version handles tapcons no problem. Sounds perfect for your environment. Hope you enjoy!
How come in this video it isn't noticeable yet in others the gen 3 clearly is faster?
Faster for small screws? Probably. It does have higher RPMs. But for the larger diameter screws we’re more interested in torque
@@someProjectFaster for the same screws used in this video.
@@budtron183well I bought this 3rd gen impact TWICE, hoping it was lol. In the end I couldn’t find a reason I’d ever use it instead of the surge.
2551 vs 3453 chk👍
The regular one makes 1500 inch pounds.
I dont care if any of the impacts are stonger or faster. I only buy the surge. Or oil impulse
You mean inch lbs. 1,500 ft lbs would be fucking insane. They would use that motor in super cars.
This has been mentioned before, but I do want to acknowledge how awesome your UA-cam name is. I love it
The surge doesn't have much power in first gear
