Love this kind of content, Janice! Specially helpful for budget travelers like myself. I’ve been literally planning a 4 day’s itinerary in Sydney and the places you went to are also on my list. The thing I haven’t researched much about yet is where to eat, so thanks heaps! 🍻
nice! there are quite a few places in sydney for tasty cheap eats! in case you need some inspo - ua-cam.com/video/dII03ZNgv58/v-deo.html
Somehow need to learn how to save money
Highly recommend Zan Asian Cruisine, Westfield Sydney. $15 for large meal noodles or rice, with any two meats. Gelato at Darling Harbour and Circular Quay is $8 1 scoop or $10 for 2 scoops. Woolworths Wolli Creek is far cheaper than any NZ supermarket. Sydney is about the same price as Auckland and Wellington. The food is so good, you just got to watch how much of it you buy. Novotel Sydney International Airport offers a large bowl of fries for $8, and I must say Australian food portions are far more generous than New Zealand. We struggled to eat one large bowl of fries, and it wasn't cheap fries, good fries for $8.
McDonalds also lists the nutritional info when you use the self service kiosks to order. New Zealand is behind and doesn't do this.
would you say stuff in Sydney or NZ was more expensive?
@Janice Fung NZ. Lower wages, higher GST. Cost of Petrol, Retail items, groceries and especially public transport is higher too. Housing likely will be a bit more expensive in Sydney.
Great food recommendations, it really looks delicious and affordable! I am planning a trip to Sydney for Easter and your channel instantly popped into my mind.
That was a banger vlog Janice. Good times are not always expensive.
thanks for watching!!
Love your channel content - always so enjoyable and informative 😀
I recently discovered your channel. I love your content. Very informative for tourists like us if we want to visit Sydney. I recently visited Sydney last December and I plan to go back again. I have taken down notes on most of your recommendations. Keep up the good work!

Underground Expresso is my go to. Great coffee and awesome staff!
Hi Janice, great video as usual , how about a $10 a meal challenge
$10 breakfast, $10 lunch & $10 dinner, are you up for it :)
thanks for the suggestion peter! $10 dinner would be hard... 🤔
@@JaniceFung thats why it’s a challenge 😂
How about $15 for dinner then 😀
Cannot be same places nor kids meals 😂
Thanks for leaving the locations in the description. I will have to check them out.
A great video, love these types of videos! Maybe do a weekend away in Sydney where you’d stay etc
ahh yes I love this, thanks Julian!
Thanks for this insightful video Janice- will be in Sydney on 17th
hope this helped!
Nice to meet you at IMM, Janice. Love your content. You even showed me - a local - a couple of new places. That rooftop bar has to go on my list.
great vid Janice.
Fantastic content. Well done
this was helpful! Thank you!
I was lucky enough to visit Sydney I think 7 years ago yes botanical gardens are a must visit as it is a trip on the Manly Ferry. Sydney did not disappoint it lived up to everything and more I thought it would be. As always an interesting and informative video
Thank you for a new video! I definitely need to visit AUS! ❤ Also, the pork roll is a Bahn Mi right?! I’m hungry now.
yes! it's a banh mi ☺️
I really enjoyed the ferry ride to Manly and tips including the recommendation for sweets and snacks.
I'm glad you found it helpful! :)
How about doing a video on top picnic spots? When moneys tight a picnic is always a good option.
ooooh that's an awesome idea! thanks Kim
Great adventure. And great info as I just arrived Sydney. And yes, it seems expensive here!
hope you have an amazing trip!
God this makes me realise I need to get out more! Been working in the city for a few years but never fully appreciated all these places being so close 😳 Will start having lunch in the gardens from now on 🤟🏻
Also glad to see rollers on the agenda, my local cafe 😍
anything else you'd recommend from there? ☺️
@@JaniceFung oh wait did you mean from rollers? 🤣 I always go for the ham and cheese croissant, nice and reliable 😊
How to spend less and also have people treat you well
I love this ! I Miss Sydney
thanks Terry!
That was fun! Thank you!
thanks Karin!
Well, now I really feel to go back to Sydney. Not sure if I can this year, need to fix the house but with your good tips, it will be cheap the next time! Thanks Janice!
thanks Nicolas! hope you get to visit Sydney again soon!
Thanks! In town today. Nicely done. I’m in firm Austin Texas.
I remember when 50$ note could last 4 days, now it can be gone in one just from food alone
Birds again! 😂 Thanks Janice. It reminds me again of how lucky we are to live in Sydney! 👏👍✌️
birds everywhere! haha
@@JaniceFung haha, that’s Sydney!
Yessssss Mappen and Oiden! I love that place! My go to there is Ontama Hiyashi…tastes exactly like i had in japan. And hell yes to breadtop…i usually get the spring onion roll…as expensive as sydney is, you can do sydney fairly cheaply if you know where to go 😉
oooh i've never tried that! i'll try that next time i go 😬
Sydney is beautiful to explore when there isnt such a huge crowd of tourists! haha
During my college days after class I would explore around the rocks area since my college is situated there. So many cute hidden cafes and restaurants there!
the rocks is perfect for exploring!
I saw you walking in sydney central the other day in that outfit, didn't know you were going to all the locations that day! You are much taller than I imagined! I am such a big fan, and was about to say Hi but you seemed hyperfocused so didn't want to disturb, and I got a bit of the jitters of seeing one of my fave youtubers. Much love and support
i have been told when im focusing on something, i look like im angry lol. 😅
thank you for the support!!!
Thank you Janice!
Where was this a week ago, I just left Sydney!
come back again!
what places did you hit up when you were in sydney?
Underground espresso, underrated gem 💎
🙌🏻🙌🏻
I agree with the sea gulls. They're fearless! The best thing about the lockdowns a while back is because no one's around, the sea gulls started going out to sea again to eat fish. But since people are out and about again, they have come back.
taking chips off unsuspecting visitors is probably an easier catch than fish out at sea haha
I’m watching this video on my second Australian but first Sydney trip.
have fun in Sydney!
OMG legit awesome packed video Janice! Where do I start, I come out with 5 veggies from Woolies and it costs $50 at least haha. Love Rollers, I agree with Marrickville pork rolls love em, I wanna go to Royal Botanical gardens now lol
the gardens are soooo pretty!
i remember a time when pork rolls were $5 lol
Yes the thing about living in Sydney are those birds hehe ..❤I love the places you visited ,a great vlog in our beautiful city and of cause the food thats the main thing you can’t go wrong with a good coffee a roll and those little custard puffs in Chinatown🥰❤️💕..x
those little puffs are the best hey! I always get some whenever I walk past!
I always get the puffs too you have too lol ..
Master plan 😂 your a champion 😊
Happy lantern festival 2023🧧
Seagulls won’t bite 😂
Underground is where i get my coffee every morning. Didn't know Marrickville Pork rolls was in the city. Now that Hunter Arcade has closed I'll be going there for lunch.
there's one in circular quay and also one in Haymarket!
Thanks for sharing. We definitely will have to try the Ferry ride and also the garden. 👌
What place do you recommend we must eat in Chatswood?
let me know what you guys think of the ferry & garden!
what kinda food were you thinking? there's a Taiwanese place called Sunflower Taiwanese, if you're feeling like ramen, manpuku is pretty good, or Japanese BBQ, there's Choji Yakinuku. Kaido Sushi is my favourite place to get sushi, but it is always sooooo packed
@@JaniceFung thank you for the recommendations. Any place to get roast duck?
Huge fan from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬... Love watching your videos
thanks so much Bryan~
Great vlog! Maybe you can do a “best bacon and egg rolls in Sydney” video 😋 If you think seagulls are intrusive, once Eddy and I were at Australian Reptile Park, and a hungry emu ate half of Eddy’s lunch! There was sauce flying everywhere 😂 and the emu had sauce all over its beak 😳😅
oh my goodness. I cant say I've ever had an emu encounter like that before lol
LOL the pigeons must really love you
I hope not
Best cheap bacon and eggs are at Central station ....just down the steps below the country section ..
Those custard puffs are heaven
The best Korean BBQ restaurants in Sydney might be a good idea for your next video ❤
I've made a vid on my fave BBQ restaurant recently ! :D
Even though I’m from OZ, everything in this video seems so foreign to me. Allow me to explain, as a teacher in American and British international schools overseas, I’ve been away for a very long time. I Will be back in April 2023. Some places in this video that I used to frequent, are so different now. Thank you for the tour.
IKEA is also a good place to go if you are into it. Althougth they cancel the 2 dollar hotdog and soft drink (unlimited refill) combo, it's still like only 50 cents increase in price.
what would your day look like if you had $50 to spend on food, drinks and attractions in Sydney???
Hey Janice,
My day with $50 would be in the suburb in parramatta called 9 degrees rock climbing $23 if
U has shoes if not it $27. Lunch would be in Westfield parramatta spoilt for chose. Parramatta park is the attraction. End the day at eat street bay vista.
I'd be more busy doing the attractions than worrying about food. But for under $50, I would get Gelato. Zan Asian Cuisine from Westfield Sydney. Manly/Shelly Bay/Coogee/Bondi Beaches, Botanic Garden and walk along the Harbour Bridge are all free. And Opal card public transport is extremely cheap (incl. after any 8 trips, the rest of your trips are half price for rest of the week) compared to public transport in NZ.
I would turn that $50 into couple hundred on black jack star city 😊
i lost $50 in 15 minutes on black jack 🥲
@@JaniceFung it's not easy only some win and walk out most lose
Thank your good idea 💡 for the Sydney cheap eating 🍴 ☕out about the Sydney
Oooh seconded on the bacon and egg sandwich! Would love to know a good spot xD
Four Brothers Espresso has really good bacon and egg rolls! 😉
thanks for the video Janice. Always reminds me to explore Sydney more!
Cheers Ken!
If you can hold your appetite there are various Food Hall late lunch boxes for under $9 and Meat & Wine Co Barangaroo there is a $7 happy hour beer with water views, cocktails are cheap too. Saigon Rolls at Chatswood station is my fav Banh Mi and used to be less than $9, but it may have gone up.
oh wow, $7 happy hour is pretty amazing, thanks for the rec Peter!
When you said dinner and the next shots were of Chapayom, I immediately knew it was gonna be Oiden! 😆😆and damn pretty sure the puffs were like 40c like last year. Odd video request - comparing the pork rolls of Sydney, Marrickville is one places for me, but have had comparable ones at Top Ryde, Bankstown and even Cabramatta.
haha an entire day of eating pork rolls!
i wouldnt consider $9 for a pork roll cheap. best pork roll ive had is vita hot bread in padstow and they only charge like $6
I just like your channel they are fun and educational for those who haven't experienced anything like Sydney or any other colchester it's nice to learn about it thanks for the trip enjoyed it all and you were absolutely beautiful doing it was cool to go on the ride
hay I just thought of something the Australian zoo what is it like
I definitely felt the price hike in food and drink when i was there less than a week ago to be with my fiance. Spent a months there and yeah, it's getting alot more expensive. Your video helps majorly. By the way, BreadTop is pretty much similar to BreakTalk here in SG so i guess it's a small taste of home..but at vastly different prices..lol
haha how much is a sausage bun at bread talk?
Hi Jaince, there is a coffee shop that was doing a bacon and egg roll with a small coffee for $10. 😊
Ooo which one??
@@JaniceFung It's called Kahii cafe on Kent Street
Thanks, with transport Opal costs $16 per day&can go as far as Blue Mountains/Central Coast&like thr German bakery nearby&weekend opal is $8.50 all day&can get the Parramatta vesselI think decent cheap eats lunches are my interest, however dislike over processed. Marrickville is of interest to me with loads of boutique breweries, eateries&think nowadays ppl are after value for money without compromising on quality but your lunch looked yummy, cheers
Dutch Smuggler (Circular Quay) makes delicious bacon & egg sandwich.
There is one takeaway cafe that does pretty cheap Bacon & Egg Rolls (available from 5:30am till about 7:30-8am or until sold out) above Wynyard station top level, near the Carrington St exit to Wynyard Park Bus interchange called San Jose Place.
Pre-Covid they were like $5.00 but now price increased to $6.50.
oooh I think I know which place you're talking about - I'll check it out! thanks Jeff
Recomended authentic restaurant in sydney Rempahku, its one of the best serving pork/chicken sambal pecak.
If for budget traveller, try doing city and ferry tour on Sun so Transport cost is capped at $8.40, so good.
If you are in city, Hunter Connection Food Court used to have very good value lunch.
Yess! Great tip! 🙏🙏
Hi Janice, I was curious to know if Sydney Australia has any resorts for travelers. If not, do people usually just stay in AirBnbs or all inclusive hotels?
So cool, $50 would probably get me one ubereats delivery with a bit of change leftover.
Happy video #299! It’s a great accomplishment and I hope there are many more to come!
can't believe it's video 299!
Love your videos. I would love to see you do $1k in a day, how would you spend that in Sydney? :)
haha that would be one helluva video - maybe a helicopter ride!! i've never been on one ever !
Hi Janice, I am one of the owners of Underground Espresso and Di Lorenzo Coffee. I just wanted to thank you for your amazing words about our coffee. I almost fell off my chair when I saw your story. We have an open invitation for you when you have a minute. Thank you again..
thanks so much Zareh! Di Lorenzo used to be my go to coffee spot when I worked in Martin place!
will definitely come say Hi next time in in Town hall again!
When are you going to visit my remaining recommended restaurants
Thank you.
Where in Sydney did you have the beef udon with egg?😮
god bless you JF
Chinatown have some food court around $10 meals I think or is that a long time ago? Haha
a few years ago, there definitely were bowls of noodles for under $10, but now it's so hard to find things under $10...
Superb👌
Sweetie Down Under 50 Bucks Nice.. Sydney...
I miss BUNH Mi in Melbourne Suburbs- Preston
The 170X bus, the only direct service from Manly to Wynyard (CBD) only runs in the morning, between 6am and 9am.
You will have to take a bus to Neutral Bay, then another to the city at other times.
Rollers Cafe in Manly is charging $12.00 for a sausage roll. Way too much. It should be half that peice.
Hey could you try out wan ramen mascot 😋
oooooo ok ! thanks for the rec!
$50 challenge around the suburbs or popular shopping center
Powerhouse Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art (MOC) free also.
powerhouse museum is free?? i always thought they required tickets
Bread top has doubled its prices. That’s nuts
YEAHH
Just came back from Sydney. Expect to spend Rm100-120 (aud30/40)on food per person a day eating out.
Where was dinner? Somewhere on George Street near cinema?
hey Scott, it was at a placed called Oiden Bowl Bar: 12/537-551 George St
I have also added all the address of locations in my description!
$1000 challenge is easy. head to your local pub and spend a couple hours on the pokies.
🥲
Saving up $50 now!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂thanks Janice!!
just don't drink any water
🧧 🧧 to help you get started lol
I was in Sydney from March 29th,2023 to April 4th, i spent close to $400AUD just on food during my 6 days holiday in Sydney
I just went to rollers yesterday, after seeing it had a high rating online. Actually disappointing, I had 2 pastries which I rated 3.5/5, and they cost $23.
loved this! looks light a great time on a budget. I've gone to NYC for less than $500 for a three day trip including roundtrip airfare, transport while there, lodging, food, and entertainment/activities. I do live on the east coast of the US so I'm cheating a bit on the airfare. it's great to figure out how to travel cheap to be able to do it more even if you can't ball out.
50 Dollaroos… thats my work lunch and coffee at work!
Lol! Whacha eating for lunch?!
Sydney isn't expensive after all. AUD 50 is about USD 37 expensive. Food was great and enjoyed the ferry ride only it's not the Star Ferry HK, but that is life. Thanks enjoyed your "cheap eats" vlog.
good video
cheers Joseph!
Less beer, more puffs 😜
hahah next time
7/11 coffee isn't as bad as it used to be, and $2 is a good price.
Better yet. What can you get at the supermarket for 50 bucs.
The other day I saw a thing of cauliflower for $7 💀🥲
@@JaniceFung yeah it’s nuts. Not cheap to stay alive 😂
😍😍😍👌👌👌👌
You could have squeezed in two extra cream puffs with that leftover money 😋😋😋😋
Haha I could’ve!
