yeah that came up a lot. I also kept thinking it would’ve made the animation much better sometimes to hold skaters’ poses (like jump landings, with a beautiful leg extension). all the animation work was done, but I guess every nanosecond was at a premium...

Just because *you* don't like it doesn't mean it's overrated. If there's anything you should take from this video, it's that Yuri on Ice deserves the praise and following it gets. It won a TON of awards. That many people can't be wrong.
I'm SO HAPPY for Yamamoto. Despite her talented portfolio she would never get the recognition she deserves. Not surprising since female directors in general are oftentimes overlooked in the anime industry. She had to work so hard to get this anime into fruition, and every step of the way faced criticism (she was even told that choosing Kubo as writer would be a bad idea). Just goes to show that sticking to your guns can pay off tremendously

Maybe he got confused by toe loop, but the loop is an edge jump. It actually was also named after a person: it’s also called the Rittberger (mostly in Europe).
the thing that makes this story beautiful is the fact that the whole love thing wasn't planned and just grew on its own. its raw, relatable and realistic. bravo.
I was initially really upset that the movie has been postponed for so long or that they haven’t said anything about a season two given that for a fact , Yuri won’t retire since he didn’t get a gold medal, making this a cliff hanger but after hearing everything that goes into this anime, I’m no longer upset, they really take their time to perfect it and the results given in the first season are worth it so I’m expecting huge things from the movie and/or season 2
About fact #5: I've read many interviews about getting this show greenlit and most of them said that Sayokan had a lot of difficulties trying to find a studio that would do her series. Some of the reasons were the skating animations & the fact that the studios she pitched them to didn't understand the reasoning of the story. In one interview Sayokan mentioned that they wanted to change the premise of YOI- they wanted it to be school based-turned into a club etc. so a completely different story from what we have now. So I'm slightly confused about this fact. Amazing video btw :)
Shenna its true. I went to Animefest and Sayo Yamamoto talked about how desperate she felt because no one would pick up her show. Also Otsuka, the producer, said many studios turned it down because of the romance as well. She and Kubo really struck gold in the end!
+tbarain I've also read that she's been pitching for a skating anime since 2011-2012 and all the studios she went to didn't want to do it since according to them 'who wants to watch a skating anime'. It was only until sochi happened and Yuzuru Hanyu won was when she thought that she would have a chance to direct a skating anime. - Also, I can't remember which # fact it was Victor's skating style was inspired not only by Plushenko but Lambiel as well.
I'm so happy she sticked to her story. I would not have been the same, not as great. Do we really need yet again another school club story? This is unique, finally different. I'm really bored of the same story over and over again, taking risks and doing something different pays off!
No one knows when the movie will be released or what it’ll be about but if the fandom practically combusted from the Welcome to the Madness PREVIEW then we will 100% not be able to handle a full on movie. If you think crashing Crunchyroll was bad, just wait till the movie’s released

Yes yes and yes! I love figure skating and it is the main focus of the show but Yuri on Ice really did it for me off the ice and even away from Viktor and Yuuri's romance. Nobody in this show really fits a trope that is common for anime to have. Yuuri could fit into the nervous, crybaby protag role but he's also stubborn, headstrong, and has a lot of hidden forwardness when his anxiety is put on hold. Yurio easily could've been the punky rival side character but he's got a lot of depth and some of the most amazing development I've seen in shows lately. I could get into Viktor and everybody else but that would take so much time cause everybody has their own story and background. Everybody has a dream. They purposely made everybody their own main character in their own story.

Victor is by far my favorite. Everything about him just screams beauty and perfection. He looks so pretty. Victor has brought me to tears many times. This is actually one of the only anime's that has brought me to tears with how well it was made. It's not even a sad anime, I just cry cause of the animations, and the characters, and the character developments and how they've progressed. Everything about this anime is phenomenal and bravo to the entire crew that made this show. From the animators/artists to the voice actors. To the directors and the characters. You really hit it out of the park in my book! I sure will have a hard time finding an anime to top this one.
You may wish to put an In Memoriam to Denis Ten who was murdered on July 19, 2018 sadly, he was the skater they based Otabek Altin on. I think its terribly sad, and I found out that Otabek was based on him via this Video.

I absolutely love how we see the same routine with Yuri every episode but it changes because he changes. How he gets more confident. How victor reminds him at first to seduce him and by the end doesn’t have to. It’s all quite nice.
@@alicebeck2023 yeah!! you can really see yuri's character evolving as he gains more confidence and learns more difficult stuff. when you learn to look at the routines not only as stuff he does for the competition, but as an expression of yuri himself, you can get so much more out of those parts of the show. sometimes i'd be watching a routine where yuri decided to change something, or something in his way of presenting himself changed, and i'd start tearing up like "MY BOY'S GROWN SO MUCH"

the thing that makes this story beautiful is the fact that the whole love thing wasn't planned and just grew on its own. its raw, relatable and realistic. bravo.
I was initially really upset that the movie has been postponed for so long or that they haven’t said anything about a season two given that for a fact , Yuri won’t retire since he didn’t get a gold medal, making this a cliff hanger but after hearing everything that goes into this anime, I’m no longer upset, they really take their time to perfect it and the results given in the first season are worth it so I’m expecting huge things from the movie and/or season 2

About fact #5: I've read many interviews about getting this show greenlit and most of them said that Sayokan had a lot of difficulties trying to find a studio that would do her series. Some of the reasons were the skating animations & the fact that the studios she pitched them to didn't understand the reasoning of the story. In one interview Sayokan mentioned that they wanted to change the premise of YOI- they wanted it to be school based-turned into a club etc. so a completely different story from what we have now. So I'm slightly confused about this fact. Amazing video btw :)
Shenna its true. I went to Animefest and Sayo Yamamoto talked about how desperate she felt because no one would pick up her show. Also Otsuka, the producer, said many studios turned it down because of the romance as well. She and Kubo really struck gold in the end!

I've also read that she's been pitching for a skating anime since 2011-2012 and all the studios she went to didn't want to do it since according to them 'who wants to watch a skating anime'. It was only until sochi happened and Yuzuru Hanyu won was when she thought that she would have a chance to direct a skating anime.

Her story in the end served as inspiration to many. Would have been me and I would have given up after so many rejections
I'm so happy she sticked to her story. I would not have been the same, not as great. Do we really need yet again another school club story? This is unique, finally different. I'm really bored of the same story over and over again, taking risks and doing something different pays off!

Yes yes and yes! I love figure skating and it is the main focus of the show but Yuri on Ice really did it for me off the ice and even away from Viktor and Yuuri's romance. Nobody in this show really fits a trope that is common for anime to have. Yuuri could fit into the nervous, crybaby protag role but he's also stubborn, headstrong, and has a lot of hidden forwardness when his anxiety is put on hold. Yurio easily could've been the punky rival side character but he's got a lot of depth and some of the most amazing development I've seen in shows lately. I could get into Viktor and everybody else but that would take so much time cause everybody has their own story and background. Everybody has a dream. They purposely made everybody their own main character in their own story.

Victor is by far my favorite. Everything about him just screams beauty and perfection. He looks so pretty. Victor has brought me to tears many times. This is actually one of the only anime's that has brought me to tears with how well it was made. It's not even a sad anime, I just cry cause of the animations, and the characters, and the character developments and how they've progressed. Everything about this anime is phenomenal and bravo to the entire crew that made this show. From the animators/artists to the voice actors. To the directors and the characters. You really hit it out of the park in my book! I sure will have a hard time finding an anime to top this one.

I absolutely love how we see the same routine with Yuri every episode but it changes because he changes. How he gets more confident. How victor reminds him at first to seduce him and by the end doesn’t have to. It’s all quite nice.
same, i can see why people might complain about having to watch the same 2 routines, but its really quite more than that ^-^
@@alicebeck2023 yeah!! you can really see yuri's character evolving as he gains more confidence and learns more difficult stuff. when you learn to look at the routines not only as stuff he does for the competition, but as an expression of yuri himself, you can get so much more out of those parts of the show. sometimes i'd be watching a routine where yuri decided to change something, or something in his way of presenting himself changed, and i'd start tearing up like "MY BOY'S GROWN SO MUCH"

on the topic of the crashes from the 12th episode, IT WAS HELL. I bought a crunchy roll membership to try and watch in class but ran out of time. it took until 2:30 ish to be online which was about 3 hours off schedule. it was totally worth it though

If you think about it the effort is what really made Yuri on ice!!!
