For The last part there where you said that you didn't know how such a messy episode turned into a kiss, let me explain. During Yuri's freeskate he changes the jump component that's right at the end of the program to a Quad Flip. Now why is that important? If you remember during the first episode when Viktor is skating the news casters point out Viktor's signature jump: the quad flip. Now, Yuri's freeskate, Yuri On Ice, tells the story of his journey to get to where he is now, his life and love. So in other words, if he changes the last jump to something that is in relation to Viktor, during a skate that tells about his life, then Yuri's story ends with Viktor. And that is why Viktor kissed him.
One small and sort of understated but in my opinion, pure genius stroke of storytelling is the way that, from the very first scene of the show, from the first internal monologue, the show established, to the attentive viewer, how much of an unreliable narrator Yuri was. In the very first narration, Yuri introduces himself as a dime-a-dozen skater, all while we can see him taking part in a high profile international contest finale, while in the background, the front lage of the Japanese official figure skating website proudly shows him off as their top skater. Yuri's perspective has always been clouded by his own very low sense of self worth, and it painted every interaction he had in the show, even, as you said, with the skaters who were also his fans. What better reveal is there, then, other than the fact that this whole time, Yuri was missing the most important information regarding Viktor's view of him? His perspective has been unreliable from the start-that's why, when we're finally given that retroactive reveal, it makes sense! Of course Yuri didn't know what to make of Viktor. Of course Yuri's perspective was limited. He's been an unreliable narrator since the start, cluded by his own poor self-perception, and we've been with him the whole time, but it was still so easy to miss the fact that he was missing that information. And so the reveal happens. And everything clicks into place. And it makes sense. Because it's not out of left field. We've always known, to some extent, that we can't fully trust Yuri's limited perspective.
Exactly! Also, if I remember correctly, his exact words were: "I'm a dime-a-dozen figure skater certified by the JSF." Which in and of itself is contradictory. You can't be certified by the JSF(Japan Skating Federation) unless you're really good. That line right there in his own introduction really tells us a lot about Yuuri as a character and a person. This line later changes to "I'm one of the top figure skaters certified by the JSF," around episode 2-4 in his little self intro, which is really soon after Victor comes to coach him.
@@imgayyyy2213 !!! And then, and then!!! Later in the last episode I think? It changes BACK to "I'm a dime-a-dozen figurestkater" but this time he says it very calmly and quietly, as if with some... self irony? As a little inside-joke? Or even as a sign of how he's more self aware now, but still would rather _choose_ to stay humble about his achievements and just chill out with his friends / skate for love and for the joy of community and not as a life-and-death commitment... I love him so much :D
This is so educational haha! But I’m still having trouble understanding the importance of the retroactive reveal. Like, yes. Yuri’s view is limited by his ability to not see himself the way everyone else does- but is the takeaway that when Yuri’s uninhibited he’s the life of the party and that makes him charming, and in addition to his skating that’s why Victor fell for him? Sorry, I think that part goes over my head..
@@milkflavoredI think the most important thing about the retroactive reveal is how it makes Victor’s initial motivation click into place. In episode one it seems like he was motivated to coach Yuri because of the video the triplets uploaded of Yuri skating Victor’s FS program, which seems kinda weird and random (which is what everyone around him thought too). But after the revelation of their interaction at the banquet, it becomes clear that Victor had already started to fall in love with Yuri way before the viral video. Yuri had already caught his eye, but when he walked away from him at the airport he seemed a bit confused and maybe even hurt. Then he sees the viral video and sees that Yuri really does have some kind of strong feelings about him (though he’s unsure what those feelings mean at first) and resolves to chase after him. From the start, Yuri can’t understand why Victor (who he sees as almost superhuman in both his talent and personality) is interested in him of all people, because he has such a low opinion of himself, and of course he doesn’t remember that he actually asked Victor to coach him in the first place. But after the reveal it’s clear that Victor genuinely believes in Yuri, believes he is an amazing person and skater and wants to make him see that about himself as well as the rest of the world. Yuri’s unreliable narration throughout lets the audience grasp Victor and his motives and feelings at more or less the same pace as Yuri does, though I think we still catch on a little bit quicker because, of course, Yuri is still struggling with his low self esteem, whereas the audience has the advantage of an outside perspective. It’s always easier to see positive qualities in others than in ourselves, especially when you have the kind of mental health struggles that Yuri does, and the retroactive reveal becomes the crux of that outside perspective: we know Yuri has always admired and loved Victor (though I don’t think that ‘love’ became romantic until the events within the show) so there’s no doubt about that, but it’s not entirely clear how Victor truly feels about Yuri until episode 10, and the reveal is like the final piece of the puzzle that brings it all into clear focus. Thank you for coming to my TED talk 😋
@@scribblefoxstories I appreciate the TED Talk ❤😂 This really helped. I think I still need to watch the series again but with what you said in mind, I feel I’ll be able to grasp it. Honestly I have the same mental struggle as Yuri, so that maybe a blind spot for me as his initial narrative would line up with mine (I don’t say that for sympathy but as an idea why this stuff doesn’t seem obvious to me) Thanks again!
"Because they found each other, they could make it this far. And because they made it this far, they found each other." Wow. Let me just sit with that for a while. That's truly YOI in a nutshell.
That episode 10 plot twist is the most shocking and successful plot twist I've ever seen. I'm serious. From the start, us fans knew there was something more going on to Victor's motivation and his feelings towards Yuri. And we dug hard for clues. We scoured over every episode, picked apart detail after detail. And yet, despite the fact that in hindsight there was foreshadowing everywhere, that dedicated community was still blindsided by the reveal. The true foreshadowing was hidden in plain sight so well alongside so many other potential clues (some intentional and some not, I'm sure) that despite the fandom's rabid dedication to knowing everything about the show, like the exact brand of lip balm Victor used, to the price of his outfits, to hunting down the real life hotels and restaurants the characters visited) I never saw anyone guess the true twist. Absolutely legendary. I'll never forget how that felt.
I don’t mean to offend, but if it’s the ( 🍻) twist, it wasn’t successful for me - it left me confused! Like, all this build up, and THATS what the set everything in motion? It kind of cheapened things for me.. I guess I need someone to explain why it’s so significant (unless you mean that the surprise comes from Viktor being the one who fell first?)
THIS. I even wrote a series of post-ep one-shots from ep 3 to the end. Also SHOUT OUT to the AIRPORT SCENE at the end of ep 9. That MUSIC, the DIALOGUE, the DESPERATION. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
@@milkflavored Well, I think most people believed that the drunk Yuri scene was such a game-changer was because we get to know what made Victor fall in love with Yuri. Before the scene, it would be irrational for an established figure skater to abandon everything and go coach someone just because of an outstanding video, and Victor's actions seemed confusing to a lot of people. A lot of people would assume that Victor fell in love with Yuri just because of his looks and his ability to mimic his performance before the big reveal, because they had never interacted before (in Yuri's memories). However, this scene cleared many things up. We see that Victor fell in love with the Yuri who was drunk and honest, who worshiped him like god. Honestly I feel like this makes everything better, as we now know that Victor's love went much more deeper.
I just don't understand why they don't continue the story. It has the viewers, the animation, the storytelling, everything, and yet we still got nothing more. I want to see Yuri and Viktor compete together again, and work in their relationship. And if we can't have that, at least I want to see Viktor's story, on how he became the best of the best. Adolescence, where are you?
i`m too don`t understand. but i think it`s because of others huge anime projects, and they just threw this anime(( but at least,i still have a hope, than in one day here comes a continuation!!
Maybe the reason we haven't heard anything official about the movie in a long time, is because of the war between Russia and Ukraine? I mean, it wouldn't surprise me if MAPPA would get at lot of backlash for releasing a movie with a Russain main character.
@@imle9279 Yeah, but they started with post-podning it. Then covid hit, which, has been a mess and affect many movies and TV-shows. Then the war came. I'm not that is the cause, but the YOI movie has meet a lot of challenges, one after another.
not me bursting into big Yuri tears when you explained the importance of episode 10 and the reveal of Victor's feelings T-T cause I was overwhelmed by all the feelings I had all these years ago when it aired and I was thrown back into them. Can't wait for winter to rewatch the show.
The way you described the fandom when YOI was airing made me feel all giddy inside, because it really was a special fan experience, as someone who was also there from basically the beginning! Thank you for touching on that, as it's something I still cherish about my experience with the show :) Amazing analysis as well!
This is my best anime. A beautiful painting of these two artists graces the wall of my bedroom. And from one writer to another, I would tell anyone with a love for these characters to go to AO3 and read 'Next Level'. I didn't write it but a very great and talented writer did. It's the story (a very long story) about what happens after YOI and there could never be a more well written follow up to such a wonderful story. If you love them, you will love it.
@@alexxio8656 My friend, there is no greater writer in all of the fandom (s) than Gabriel. I've tried to skate the programs they wrote and almost died. It took months to read their work and every single word was more than worth it. Please read it. And I hope you love it as much as I did all three times I've been through it. That is a true work of art. Without compare.
I love that this show had no real villains, just people who are all competing for the same thing. I’m going to rewatch now lol, thank you for making this!
as a writer who rarely if ever writes romance, Yuri on ice is what I turn to when I need inspiration. occasionally I will write and suddenly a relationship will form that I, as the dam writer, didn't foresee. Then when I decide to keep the characters together I look towards my favourite relationships in media to get a sense of how to keep them together while building up their relationship. idk if its the same for other writers but for me nearly every couple in my stories, if they aren't pre-established, happen on accident. It's like every one of my characters has a soulmate just waiting to be written.
I'm in tears. This was the most put-together analysis I've ever heard. It's been 7 years but I think it JUST now clicked into place for me why YOI impacted me so hard, and it was because indeed it's also very clever narratively speaking. It's its logical stucture that drives home the emotional message - like a program's components-elements telling a story! In and of itself so meta, gosh I never even thought to seek these answers and yet! I now profoundly understand my OWN love for Yuri on Ice. I'm geniunely amazed. Thank you for this video, I guess I only just now found it because the algorithm picked it out for me after the cancelation news :') But I don't really care that there isn't _more_ of it, exactly because of its air-tightness. At least it can always _remain_ perfect, special and just. Perfect.
i discovered yoi just 2 years ago, but they seem to follow me everywhere. With my increasing anxiety, i relate to yuuri. The way i lost my interest in things i loved before, i see myself in victor. But whenever i feel down just remember that they both shine through love. i wish to reach for that too no matter what kind of love it is. Yuri P once said in the show "People shine brightest when they seek to recognize and understand what kind of love sustains them." and this has been my motto ever since. The relatability of this show just struck the hearts of so many people including mine. That is why i love it so much. Thank you for making this video! really reminded me why love this show so much! all the love !!
I truly miss yuri on ice.. this video gave me some comfort and "clearness" about the anime. Im sobbing 🥹.. I hope mappa will reconsider and would lend the movie (hopefully) to another studio.. but I know to myself that I won't be waiting because after watching this video it made me realize that the anime itself was already perfect and just right. Thank you YOI for making me happy, cry, and for comforting me in all those years watching again and again. I truly think that YOI is one of the greatest anime of all time. 😭💗
And this is exactly why YOI remains to be one of the best sports animes. I've been meaning to go back to it this year but I didn't find the time yet. I may as well do it on my birthday to treat myself. Haha.
I've never seen yuri on ice this way before and I've been in this fandom since this show was airing. Its insane to think of the level of detail the writers thought of when crafting characters who initially appear as throw-aways. Thank you for shedding new light on an old love
Yuri on ice is a show that in a way literally saved my life. I wacthed ut when it first started to air and i was so fascinated by it. Before it i never even knew much about figure skating but after it it became ny dream, and later my goal, to become a figure skater myself. I finally start skatibg after a year from watching it. And during that time i fell into a deep depression, whvih now i have been diagnosed with Bipolar and major depressive disorder. I dropped all my hobbies exceot for drawing and figure skating. But later even doibg art became tough. And the only thing that was keeping me upflot and helping me to not rot in ny room all day was figure skating. Idk if i woukd be here if not for that show. It gave something to strive for, it gave me motivation to become good at something. I been skating for around 5 years now. I have lost weight and finally like looking at myslef. I qish i could meet the creator of Yuri on Ice just to express all my love and gratitude u hold for them. To this day this anime is the only one that i can rewatch every single day and never get tired of it l.
The way you explained the writing of the anime was incredible. It’s one of my favorite animes and I’ve always loved how it was written. It also made me fall in love with figure skating
I’m glad I’m not the only one that watches it every year with the same consistency as I watch Home Alone and Star Wars every December and May (respectively)
i discovered this show in early 2018. it was my second ever anime, and i had been in love with figure skating since i was really young, so seeing an anime about it made me really happy. it was at a time where i was struggling with how i identified, and the LGBTQ+ representation was and still is really important for me. as much as there is fan service moments, their relationship does build and grow, and isn’t there just for the views, and it (like you said) goes into depth about how their love for each other started and how it wasn’t as simple as love at first sight, and how it was something special for both of them that sparked heavy interest towards each other. the way the show as a whole towards Y and V’s relationship is also very heartwarming, as when Pitchit screams out about V and Y’s rings and how they got ‘married’. seeing everyone accept it was very new to me, especially in media, and it was a very special moment for me. not to mention Yurio and his build in character, from the angry competitive character which tries to get Yuri to retire, to then trying his best to beat Yuri in the grand prix final just so Yuri stays in competition for longer and doesn’t retire. all the characters are so special, and mean so much to the story. yuri on ice, you are a one in a million show that i wish i could watch again for the first time
i’m so unbelievably astonished by how well you explained this. In every way you explained how i’ve felt about yuri on ice, and might i add perfectly. I love yuri on ice with my every being. I touch with yuri katsuki so much, and it’s one of the main reasons i love this anime. I miss it that’s for sure, it makes me sad for those who’ve never took the time to watch it. cause it truly is just such a beautifully written anime. thank you for this video, i will constantly come back to it. your explanation touched me, and made me realize things that even i didn’t realize. thank you so so much. 🤍
Great essay; I learned things about a show I already know well, so, thank you! Also, that has to be one of the saltiest dedications I’ve seen, and I’m here for it. Brava!
YESSSSS. I too was an OG YOI fan, going week to week. I literally wrote a series of fanfics, weekly one shots starting after ep 3 (and eventually turned into a post-Grand Prix fic), that pondered the direction of Victuuri's relationship. Holy SHIT was episode 10's ending a MINDF*CK. This is one of those series that I have watched SO MANY TIMES that I have lost count. English and Japanese casts are both **chefs kiss**...Once in a while, I get to watch it with a friend who is seeing it for the first time, and relive the rollercoaster of emotions vicariously through them. Thank you for sharing this analysis. It puts EVERYTHING I love about this story into words.
I wanted to point this out, since it's really important to me. In most other sport animes I've watched you see the protagonist(and their team) against another team. However, you just follow the protagonist(and their team)'s stories, you don't really get to see the motivations, feelings and stories for the others competing against the mc. So in the end you're just cheering for the mc, because their the mc and not because you like their character or symphatise with them. This is what YoI did really well. At the finals(as an athlete myself I understand how much work and effort it takes to be there beforehand) I ended up cheering for all of them and actively hoping that they do their best and land all their jumps perfectly. I love how the other skaters despite being competition against Yuri Katsuki, they were never introduced as villains. They all bond together over their love for this sport and let the best one among them win and this is really how sport irl is too. I'm saying this out of expirience since I'm a swimmer myself and swimming is a sport where it's like figure skating, more "you vs you" rather then against others. Though I will admit that I was cheering for Yurio the most, because I am very biased and I loved him from the start lol.
wow what a wonderful analysis!!!! Adore this show so much and you've really summed up the storytelling skills. The reverse in episode 10 was absolutely phenomenal
Honestly this anime has played a big part in my life and helping me figure out my sexuality, I just wanna thank the creator for making this amazing show
I watched Yuri!!! on Ice while it released, it was honestly breathtaking. I was a skater once, i actually understood what Viktor said about "skaters having glass hearts" lol It's really about how your emotions interact with the skating, Viktor noticed that Yuri was nervous and one of the ways to let the nervousness out is by crying! Very wholesome moment. I loved the video essay, hope you can talk more about it soon!
This is so so beautifully and intricately explained. Kudos to you, it’s like you put all the feelings this anime made me feel out in words which is truly an incredible feat 🥺💖
This is a beautiful video that perfectly encapsulates the beauty of this show. Thank you for reminding me of how amazingly written it really was. Being on tumblr on those days was truly wild, one of the fondest fandom memories I have
Yuri on ice and Love Stage are two of my favourite anime. They are the ones that made me realize that BL/yaoi isn’t all just adult stuff. It can be super complex and amazing in its story telling
I liked your essay. But I don't think Victor "fell in love": he was depressed and Yuri made him feel something (a chrush) and changed things up. So he chased the emotion and really fell in love over it. Think about it: Victor loves surprises - funnily enough he plans them in contrast to Yuri - but at this point in his career the only surprise he could do would be to loose and what kind of surprise is that? What is fascinating is that most people don't realize that Yuri is to a certain way still running when he plans to end his career with a gold medal at the Grand Prix. Why? Because in the end as a top skater you should maybe win it but you will not really be remembered for it. The highlight of the season lies in the second half: Worlds. Only - as you said - it does not help that well with the narrative structure because it does not built and "only" has 2 skates maybe 1 to 2 days apart. It is also interesting that narrative wise we seem to be in a pre-Olympic year meaning the next one is actually the very important one. You certainly will be remembered for an Olympic medal, less so for world medals and even less for Grand Prix. Funnily enough you would have to be in I'd say the top 10 or Top 8 skaters of the world to get there. Let me demonstrate why I think it is more than Top 6: In the season of 2017/18 - I think - we had another Winter Olympic season. In the Grand Prix in his first competition Javier Fernandez surprisingly messed up and did not advance because of it. But he did win bronze at the Olympics and - I believe - he was the current World champion. Yuzuru Hanyu won his competitions but ultimely had a foot injury and could not go to the Grand Prix. The GP has 3 skater slots that can advance to the competition f someone can't compete. Hanyu ultimly won those Olympics as well: Anime style. That man ultimatly landed his first quad after healing I think 10 days before the Olympics and had to take pain medicine. Nathan Chen - who won the GP - was rather shaky in his program but Shoma Uno had trouble as suddenly he had a chance to win gold. At the Olympics Shoma earned silver. Chen did mess up his short at the Olympics by landing none of his 3 jumps correctly. Like JJ he had 5 quads in free and became 5th overall just a hairbreath behind Jin Boyang and the year later the ICU kind of debated if the Chiese jury member overscored him. Not that that would have mattered much. There is also something else I'd like to talk about: coaches. The idea the story developed from was about a figure skater and his coach. That they fell in love is to a certain degree incental but oh so great. There are a lot of coaches actually in the show: Celestino, Yakoy, the coaches of the other skaters. They all play a role and are distinct characters, too. We see them interacting with their skaters and trying to built them which is not always easy and sometimes miscommunications happen. Seug Gil is not talking to his, Leo is pumped up and Chris is rather laid back to name some interactions. In this sport they are very important. Victor breaking Yuri is possible seen in the lense how he has seen Yakov work but also because we all see the breakdown coming. The likelyhood that it could be prevented or wait till after the skate is at that point pretty mmuch zero. And skating with that anxiety? would have likely made Yuri fail. By breaking open the conflict when there is still time they both can confront it. Even as Victor has no idea how to deal with it really. But Yuri opens himself up and that is actually a necesarity: That is how communcation works. And when Victor asks what Yuri needs that is actually important. Instead of keeping to himself Yuri trusts enough to spill what he really thinks. It may not be the best way to deal but sometimes you need to hit rock bottom to break from destructive patterns. It actually helps here. (And there is the amusing fan narrative that thinks Yuri went to the university in Detroit when in all likelyhood he did Online-University with an university in lets say Tokyo. No. He was in Detroit for Celestino only, not education.) Sorry for rambling... 💜
as a long-time yoi appreciator this was a beautiful comment i rlly hope that doesn't sound weird but like. it's good shit i like how u break things down and explain ur points
Wonderful description of so many storytelling techniques of Yuuri on Ice, but also so much unique and well supported and well explained insight! Kudos. You deserve so much more recognition! Thank you so much for making this video.
man i need to rewatch this, it's so important to me ❤ im so glad i got to keep up from episode 8 onward as it was released, i deeply cherish that experience
Oh My God! Thank you so much for this video! Your segments on love and how you can't explain certain aspect of the story because they're so human and humans are complex feeling machines was so beautiful I cried! Thank you for hitting the nail on the head for me, that's why I love Yuri On Ice 💙💜
You explained everything I feel and love about this anime so well, especially down to rewatching it every winter since 2016 lol, this made me very happy to watch :D
wow, watching this essay has been a blast. thank you very much for this video! i'm a die-hard yoi fan since its release and still, your essay gave me new insights of this anime (e.g the otabek & yuri trope). i just love this anime (esp. yuuri's trope/character development and his support system and... just everything) so much. i really appreciate and adore it when people like you still spread awareness of this anime's good aspects, even though yoi is being underappreciated & neglected by mappa (but that's another story). lovely video
This is an amazing review, thank you so much for sharing this piece of insight, for most of what you've mentioned is also what I liked about this anime but never found the right words to express, and now i can say i'm far off at that after watching this. This channel is a hidden gem for sure, wishing you all the best on it!
YOI is my favorite anime and this analysis is beautiful. ❤️ I'm still hopeful for the movie and a 2nd season to expand on the characters. For now I live in the realm of fanfic. 🥰
I came to YOI a coiuple years after it aired. I've always complained (quietly) that there was too much time diverted to side characters and their skating programs at the expense of Yuuri and Victor's storyline. But with your insights I see how each character is a reflection of Yuuri's growth as a character. But I still think some of the sequences focusing on side characters' skating programs went on too long, carving a big chunk of those very short episodes that could have been used to fill the holes in Yuuri/Victor's and Yuuri/Victor/Yurio's thru-line. :)
Maybe this is controversial, but I feel like canceling the movie *may* have been the necessary thing to do. I think after so long of leaving such a dedicated fanbase waiting around, the expectations were just too high. YOI is the exception, in so many ways that it's hard to properly articulate - it's inspiring, it's fun, it's visually stunning, for starters. Us as a community hold YOI to such a high regard that maybe the team just didn't know how to properly follow it up with something just as fulfilling and powerful. It's obviously way more complicated than that, but a thought to chew on.
This was a really nice analysis on YoI, but I remain unsure abt how i feel towards this anime. Within these 12 episodes happened so much which made me struggle to keep up with the pace. It didn't feel horrible while watching, but in retrospect it is hard for me to relate as their relationship and character development (mainly for Yuri) came by so fast. Also, i just am not convinced yet that anyone besides Yuri rlly had a good character arc in this series, they totally missed out on everything we could have gotten through Yurio, as well more actual character traits to Viktor as he had many moments where you just couldn't comprehend him at all. While later on it made a bit more sense, he remained a complex character without ever being truly explained in actual ways you can understand. While that you touched upon, saying you feel like you understand him while actually getting "explained" why he is how he is, I still feel like the series had a lot of strong points it missed out on: the pace, the many characters (many of them mainly meant to portray one aspect of character development Yuri went through in one way or another which just gives us this extreme focus on him and his character arc, making the show miss out on more of its wide cast) and the relationship between Yuri and Viktor. I just couldn't buy it... the concept of love in itself is hard for me to understand, but it felt very random and just "love on first sight" with the drunk dance party - going over to many ups and downs in their time of coaching and being together. While the latter is totally normal, it still gave so many situations in which their issues just never got actually picked up again, resolving themselved by mere time and occurrence. Yuri and Viktor were meant to be relatable in one way or another as well as likeable, but i can't help but sigh while thinking about endless ways of how they could have been more. I truly do not hate YoI, but besides Yuri's character arc (and i guess the visuals and ice skating) idk for what other reason i could recommend this series to anyone...
I just finished watching YOI a couple of days ago and irrevocably fell in love with it. (I know I am beyond late to the fandom but at least it's better than never having arrived). I loved the essay and I agree on a lot of points. Thank you for putting a lot of things into perspective. I wished the anime had more episodes though, not just because I wanted to see more of their story but because the pace seemed rushed. I had to watch the show twice to better relate and make sense of things. I really wished the creators had more time on their hands and we could have better character study's of the other characters. Nevertheless, within the time crunch the anime managed to make its mark. 🤍
Perfectly explained
I almost screamed with excitement when I read that that’s the cutest thing I’ve ever heard ♥️♥️♥️
Вау! Спасибо за разъяснения:)
“well-observed human complexity” is such an enormously good takeaway. well done with this video. kudos to you, and thank you for sharing!
Honestly I have the same mental struggle as Yuri, so that maybe a blind spot for me as his initial narrative would line up with mine (I don’t say that for sympathy but as an idea why this stuff doesn’t seem obvious to me)
Thanks again!
"Because they found each other, they could make it this far. And because they made it this far, they found each other."
Wow.
Adolescence, where are you?
im dying for the movie man. I'd give anything!
i`m too don`t understand. but i think it`s because of others huge anime projects, and they just threw this anime((
but at least,i still have a hope, than in one day here comes a continuation!!
Maybe the reason we haven't heard anything official about the movie in a long time, is because of the war between Russia and Ukraine? I mean, it wouldn't surprise me if MAPPA would get at lot of backlash for releasing a movie with a Russain main character.
@@CreativeGamingDorthea True, but the movie was announced way back in 2018. The “official” war didn’t start before 2022, there were 4 years in between
@@imle9279 Yeah, but they started with post-podning it. Then covid hit, which, has been a mess and affect many movies and TV-shows. Then the war came. I'm not that is the cause, but the YOI movie has meet a lot of challenges, one after another.
i love how the straight guy is the villain
not me bursting into big Yuri tears when you explained the importance of episode 10 and the reveal of Victor's feelings T-T cause I was overwhelmed by all the feelings I had all these years ago when it aired and I was thrown back into them.
Voice: "Warmth and comfort of Yuri on Ice"
Video: Victor's warm and comforting buns coming fresh out of the hot springs.
How long is it there are many fics with the title next level in the fandom
Does it happen to be by RipVanGabriel when I search by word count their fic is what shows up first
@@alexxio8656 My friend, there is no greater writer in all of the fandom (s) than Gabriel. I've tried to skate the programs they wrote and almost died. It took months to read their work and every single word was more than worth it. Please read it. And I hope you love it as much as I did all three times I've been through it. That is a true work of art. Without compare.
@paranoxx figured it was the right one thanks. I already put it in my bookmarks will read it as soon as I can.
@@alexxio8656 I hope you love it as much as I did. Give Gabriel my love.
Thank you for this video, I guess I only just now found it because the algorithm picked it out for me after the cancelation news :')
But I don't really care that there isn't _more_ of it, exactly because of its air-tightness.
Haha.
I'm heartbroken that they canceled this show 💔
I've never seen yuri on ice this way before and I've been in this fandom since this show was airing.
Thank you for the video. After the cancellation of the movie these videos are my only comfort. Great series that should have continued.
Brava!
BRO YOU ARE SO UNDERRATED GREAT VIDEO!!!!
Honestly this anime has played a big part in my life and helping me figure out my sexuality, I just wanna thank the creator for making this amazing show
Sending much love to Yuuri on Ice community!
I watched Yuri!!! on Ice while it released, it was honestly breathtaking. I was a skater once, i actually understood what Viktor said about "skaters having glass hearts" lol
It's really about how your emotions interact with the skating, Viktor noticed that Yuri was nervous and one of the ways to let the nervousness out is by crying! Very wholesome moment.
I loved the video essay, hope you can talk more about it soon!
This is such a great video essay! I enjoyed it a lot. Now I wanna rewatch Yuri On Ice 😂
I watched yoi years ago and barely remember about it. After this I def want to check it out again (and your other videos too!)
So who sending this to MAPPA?
This is so so beautifully and intricately explained. Kudos to you, it’s like you put all the feelings this anime made me feel out in words which is truly an incredible feat 🥺💖
Wow, great rundown, thank you for this gem of a video
Just here to remind people of the absolute banger of an opening song YoI has. That song is constantly on my mind!
Yuri on ice is so well-written despite the amount of episodes which was only 12... IT DESERVES A MOVIE OR A SEASON 2, MAPPA WHEN???
I knowww right , Im mad
Apparently never
This is a beautiful video that perfectly encapsulates the beauty of this show.
It can be super complex and amazing in its story telling
i rewatched yuri on ice again and i was sooooooo euphoric thank u for this video :))))
god you've reminded me how muCH I FREAKING LOVE THIS SHOW AAAAAAA
Love the way you explain all of the plot❤ and yes, put it on into words why I love YOI even more
Airtight 🤌🏾 the 21-23 minutes feels like hours 🖤
Let me demonstrate why I think it is more than Top 6:
In the season of 2017/18 - I think - we had another Winter Olympic season.
No. He was in Detroit for Celestino only, not education.)
Sorry for rambling... 💜
as a long-time yoi appreciator this was a beautiful comment i rlly hope that doesn't sound weird but like. it's good shit i like how u break things down and explain ur points

wow, watching this essay has been a blast. thank you very much for this video! i'm a die-hard yoi fan since its release and still, your essay gave me new insights of this anime (e.g the otabek & yuri trope). i just love this anime (esp. yuuri's trope/character development and his support system and... just everything) so much. i really appreciate and adore it when people like you still spread awareness of this anime's good aspects, even though yoi is being underappreciated & neglected by mappa (but that's another story). lovely video

YOI is my favorite anime and this analysis is beautiful. ❤️
I'm still hopeful for the movie and a 2nd season to expand on the characters. For now I live in the realm of fanfic. 🥰
This was great explanation. I loved listening and felt I learned a lot!
This video is incredible
The well thought out argumentss>>>
Maybe this is controversial, but I feel like canceling the movie *may* have been the necessary thing to do. I think after so long of leaving such a dedicated fanbase waiting around, the expectations were just too high. YOI is the exception, in so many ways that it's hard to properly articulate - it's inspiring, it's fun, it's visually stunning, for starters. Us as a community hold YOI to such a high regard that maybe the team just didn't know how to properly follow it up with something just as fulfilling and powerful. It's obviously way more complicated than that, but a thought to chew on.
Love this, thank you!
Rip yuri on ice
I'm pretty sure Emile had a crush on Michel
Good video :) !!!
Love this❤️
Untill now season 2 is not published i mean i think thwy didn't make season 2😢😢😢
this show is peak

Can't believe Yuri on ice: Adolescence is never coming out because Russia decided to invade Ukraine! 😭
