The town of Sligo is in the north of Ireland, straddles the Garavogue River where it meets Sligo Bay. It’s known for its literary heritage and rugged countryside. Ruined medieval Sligo Abbey has carved tombs and a 15th-century altar.

Thanks! In Sligo late Sept 2023 - all hotels fully booked. No excursions - no Ben Bulben, no Inisfree, no Drumcliffe...quite bizarre. Street traffic frightening fast - worse than Boston where if a pedestrian is sighted drivers push the accelerator. Sligo Tourism need to get their act together - it's a beautiful town.

'The unpredictable weather is the only problem' - actually the weather is Ireland's salvation, otherwise it could be worse than Venice! Nearly every year since 2000 I've visited I've had 'rain delays' only rarely! I have read pour unfortunates who say it rained for 40 consecutive days their Irish visits!

A kip of a town..so is longford and ballina..bundoran is not far behind. Explanation, any town that dont or wont install public bathrooms is a kip... Ballina is a prime example.
