My 2nd black baby just hatched today, hopefully more will hatch in the next day or so. My 1st one was in my last hatch. These blacks were hatched from my multiple color breeding pen. A great breeding experiment 😃
Absolutely gorgeous. I will definitely be reaching out to them. I would love to work on perfecting a line of black coturnix. I believe they would also be a hit with my customers even before they are perfected. Thank you so much for the information!
Very Cool! THank you for this information. I had one Tibetan from a shipment of 44 mixed eggs--27 hatched. I believe the Tibetan bred many times with some fees that I had, but I have 5 gray and black quail with dark legs--someone told me they were grau-fees. The info given here was helpful and now I understand better what is going on with these colors! As mine are 3 weeks old, I am looking forward to the how the gray/black patterns change. 2 of them are much darker than the others. And yes, a couple do have lighter toes!
Thanks, Terry. Of the ones I won, I got one of the blacks to hatch and it's pretty good looking thus far. Beak and toes are black, it has the "eyebrows" but it's still under a week old and hasn't started feathering yet. I'm anxious to see it grow. One of the others though, I can't even tell you what type it could be since I don't know the colors, has mottled black toes and it wasn't in the marked eggs.
I bought my black coturnix from Kai Peppler. The first batch spent over a week in the mail so I wasn't happy with the hatch rate (22%). The second batch were sent by overnight delivery and the hatch rate was better but still only about 50%. There were a few with white patches and others with brown under tones (1 sparkly) so there is some work to do to get pure blacks. The pink toe problem is frustrating. They do seem to have 'behavioural issues' too. One of my nicest looking blacks is feather-pecker I haven't had feet problems with the blacks but a couple of the calico have twisted toes. They are the most friendly / inquisitive though so I'll keep them as pets.
I ordered some quail eggs this year from southwest game birds and I had a zero percent hatch rate. This was my first time hatching eggs so I thought I had done something wrong. I decided to try again so I bought a hen and rooster from a local place and incubated seven eggs the hen laid. I had a hundred percent hatch rate. I was discouraged after the first failed hatch, but after I had the hundred percent I seen how easy it is to hatch eggs.
So are you trying to say their eggs were bad? It was your first time so you think you did everything right? This kind of thing is what makes business owners really aggravated and not want to sell to just anyone.
@@MacJank7 I would say their eggs were bad. I bought some quail from a local feed store and incubated the 7 eggs they laid. I had 100% hatch rate and this was my 2nd incubation. I did everything the same as the first time.
@@htowngizmo9799 shipped eggs vs picked up from feed store says it all. Anyone who buys hatching eggs will tell you shipped eggs can get beat up during shipping and cause this. All it takes is the package being dropped hard once to break the air sacs free inside the eggs. Just saying!
@@CoturnixCorner we saw a lot of curly toes and splayed legs, if we hatched 20 black and 20 of other colors there was a lot of leg issues just with the black ones, there have been a lot of talks about that in Sweden, maybe it was due to inbreed since there was one first that got them and started to sell eggs all around until the issues got more attention, there was similar issues with celadons.
In Canada we have small blacks failure to thrive blending the food helped the little ones gain weight better some littles got to the same size by maturity this time around blending the food really helped I didn't see feet problems in any of the black birds and I started out with lots I did have some splayed leg and toe curled on my pharaoh chicks but not the black ones Just info from Canada Lots of pink toes here The one chick has one pink toe on each side rest is black but I had mostly pink toes
Omgoodness your birds are beautiful 😍
Thank you, they are from Thieving Otter Farm.

I hatched a batch of "Hatchery's Choice" from SWGB and several are a very pretty black color. They're flippin' gorgeous.
I recently hatched a completly black quail from a mixed pen. quite a surprise
very cool color variety... gonna order a batch soon to add them to my speciality inventory...looking foward to these birds..

@@CoturnixCorner I wish you the same.
i love the black line i did get one that is near adult not sure if i would be able to breed and get the same tho but ya never know
I wish I could get in on this breeding program
White markings on the face remind me of black rosecomb bantam chicken. They're marked on hatch, but lose it when growing true feathers.

do you sell any fertile hatching eggs in these?
Is it possible to buy your culls ?
There was a lot of issues with their feet when we got them to Sweden, maybe 30-40% had issues when hatched.
I haven't noticed any feet issues other than the odd pink toe.

I had a lot of issues with curled toes when I started my lines. It has taken hard culling and careful selection to weed out the defects.

I had failure to thrive issues in my original birds, but it’s something I was able to breed out with careful selection and heavy culling.
As soon as I get to florida I will get started with black quail and whites, and fee, and calico, and wild type ... and im broke
🤣
I got 30 day old chicks and one of them is a beautiful black. Not sure if that is something of use
VERY FRUSTRATED I'm looking for STANDARD English white quail eggs NOT JUMBO. I can't find ANY. Please advise and thanks.
Curious to know why you prefer srandard?
Are they jumbo quail/.
Oh no dont put the idea of getting black quails in my head 😂😂
I know it isn't what you are breeding for but I thought the black tux with the white wing tips was the prettiest bird of them all.
Personal preference 😀
I agree. Those white wing tips are gorgeous.
@@CoturnixCorner Yeah, that's a pretty bird. Prehaps let someone else breed it rather than cull it?
So cute
We have some healthier blacks this time around but they are still smaller
But doing well
Best looking one hands down ill fight yah. If they can lock it down And make a jumbo outta it I'd never spend money faster ever 😂😂
If you're willing to ship live birds, I'll take the ones you don't want.
Sorry, I don't ship live birds.
@@CoturnixCorner It was worth a shot. Good luck with program.
Because of climate change people are having bad results all around the world.. I'm from Belgium and heard and experienced those bad results also..

This guy sucks. I definitely wouldn't trust him considering his poor quality quail facility.
You have seen his entire facility??
What do you mean?
