Running Boulder's Skyline Traverse
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 сер 2024
- The Skyline traverse, or 5 peak traverse, is an epic way to spend a day on some of the most beautiful trails close to Boulder. You can link up Sanitas, Flagstaff Mountain, Green Mountain, Bear Peak and South Boulder Peak in about 20 miles of running or hiking.
I decided to celebrate Global Running Day with a little jaunt around my hometown.

Even if you're not a runner, I hope you enjoyed the views of Boulder. I've lived here most of my life and I've never seen it so green! Did any of you celebrate Global Running Day?
Amazing, this video felt like I've been on this hills... So recharging and relaxing at the same time! This year I made a 10k run in a park in Moscow 😊
looks like heaven there!
Stanislav Ivanov nice job man!
Ryan, I really love all of your videos, but this one about gratitude, really, really resonates with me! There is so much in life that, if you're not careful, can easily bring you down. But if you take the time to find something you're grateful for (or, in your case, "cinco" things you're grateful for!), life can really be great. Thank you for your inspiration and for encouraging me to appreciate all that I've been blessed with and to be thankful for even the little things in life. At 53, I might not be as young as you (or as Dana put it, "in your prime", haha!), but I still have many more days to enjoy this life and all it has to offer. :)
U still with ur gal ??
Thanks for the great views of Boulder! Another great video. Keep up the good work.
32min 10km?!!! Wow, way to go Dana! I am grateful that you live near this traverse and shared this with us.
Your hometown is just beautiful for biking, hiking & running. I Love to see Dana in your videos ;)
I lived in Boulder for 7 years (2008-2015) while I was in grad school. Miss that place a bunch. Thanks for bringing me "home" with your video
Omg! Thanks, Ryan for sharing your beautiful and funny adventures with us! Like you said, you are a lucky man! Born and raised in Boulder! I was born and raised in Switzerland...so I can relate to what your are feeling when you're looking at all the beauty around you! If I ever get to visit CO, I'll be hiring you as my running-guide. I Love all the ~happy~ that surrounds you. ☀️
Wow. Totally jealous of your backyard. I would be all over this.
I love how you share something you are grateful for on each mountain! Thank you for this!
Thanks for watching! A lot to be grateful for
Your lucky to have friend like Dana in your life. I could be wrong but, she just strikes me as the type of person that the harder you push ahead, the more she thrives in that environment. Have a great weekend!
Ryan. Always good to see you showcase Boulder. But I need to say this. I studied this video a little today and not only is it admirable that you can just get up and run the traverse---but it is that you can do it with all those stops carrying gear and doing multiple takes and it never seems like it happened that way. You seem to have an intuition to knowing when and how to shoot --and what to say--so it edits really well. Bravo and Olé, Olé, Olé!!!!
Thanks my friend, I guess I have years of experience about how to film an adventure while moving quickly...thank you for noticing the work that goes into this
Wow 🤗🤗🤗 very beautiful...love long runs👏👏....
Siempre un plaser ver tus videos ,tu actitud tan positiva y la motivacion...gracias 🤗👋
Hiked all these mountains, but never in the same day. Great job. I will never forget the first time I made the Green Mtn to Bear Peak traverse, bushwhacked right along the ridge, glorious!
I love your biking videos, but I’m really enjoying your running videos too. Thank you!
Thanks Tony!
Awesome video man, thank you for posting these
Thanks for sharing!! This was awesome...especially with the "thankfulls"
Thanks for the great perspective of Boulder hinterhighlands. Got to revisit your run in jeans at Caballo Blanco, which made great rewatching. Keep up all your amazing projects, and dedicating them to video, of course!
Love the Skyline! I managed to see few bears out there. And one time did run into a family of lions on Flagstaff. Thanks for sharing!
Grateful!!!
I’m grateful that you make adventure videos😊
I'm grateful that you watch them
Wish our trails here are as beautiful as Boulder! 🤩
Mountain lion riding a bear, classic. Great video Ryan!
Thanks!
You are a legend!
Sooo nice man! Truly inspiring to run for the sake of running and gratitude for being able to! I would love to run those mountains!!!
Did this traverse on my last day in Boulder in 2017. Miss that city so much!
It's a beautiful way to explore Boulder!
I saw this video a year ago and day-dreamed i would run it one day. And now headed there this week for my 41st Bday to run it. Great job on this video. Thank you !!
Very inspiring!
amazing places!!!! love it!
My daughter went to UCBoulder and I LOVED visiting her from New Jersey a few times a year. Boulder is so 😎
Very cool! Boulder is a special place
Great video! I'll be listening to it all week as I attempt my first 100 miler this coming Saturday. (I watch the Javalina videos a lot too, very inspiring). Thanks for all you're doing!
Good luck in your race and enjoy all the ups and downs!
beautiful!
Boulder seems like a really nice place! Thank you for sharing it with us!
It's pretty magical for sure, thanks for watching!
Very cool video. Definitely appreciate all these mountains. So beautiful up there never get old.
My 12 year old son and I run all those mountains. However, we have not done the traverse yet together. Working to build up his training for this distance. He almost there!
I just got back from visiting Boulder, and this video just makes me want to go back even more. The energy there is so beautiful.
Veronica Shukla it’s a special place for sure!

Woha! Great and inspiring video, Ryan! Boulder with its landscape, trails and people do look awesome! I was down with a cold on the Global Running Day, but i had a awesome 20k on Sunday. Not as epic a scenery as you had, but two thunderstorm to the south and west of me kept me going before it hit my area. Keep it up man, i draw great inspiration from your video! Cheers from Norway :)
nice man, glad to hear that you got in a big run this weekend. Happy trails my friend!
That's right! Get off your couch and out there! I just missed you on this trail, having done this the Sunday before.
Maybe I'll see you another day out there!
Outside is awesome and so are your videos.
I agree!
Love you guys 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Tara Walker thank you!
Thanks for the Wicket Awesome Video.. I knew it was Dana.. I feel like I know you both.. through your UA-cam Channel.. you both seem “What you see, is what you get” SUPER people.. I had a back injury back in October.. which has put my running on hiatus for now.. but I can still ride my bicycle.. biking is who I am.. instead of complaining on what I cannot do.. I’m grateful on what I can do.. I find my happy spot.. hope we all meet for ice cream one Day 😎🚴♂️🍀
Hi Ryan, You post such cool video’s. I enjoy watching your stuff. Thank you. You are becoming a motivator for me. I think of the recent video when I am out challenging myself. I think about one day doing something like that, it motivates me to do more. I am so grateful or my life. Still being here and being able to do things. Some days life still gets in the way of living. I view those days as days I’m getting stuff done. But I try to focus on new abilities and stretching my abilities. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
Thanks my friend...I wish you all the best with everything!
Wow! It's beautiful there! Thank you for another awesome video. I didn't even know there was a Global Running Day. I'll run double today but it's not the same.
Jeffrey Culpepper it’s so beautiful!! Get on that double run!
Just found your videos when searching for bike suggestions. Loving the content so far
Chris Fuller thanks Chris!! I’ve got tons of bike vids, running vids and general outdoor adventure stuff. Thanks for watching!!
Great video. Enjoyed that.
Mark Walsh thanks Mark!
I know this is an older video of yours, but it's still a fun one! I've run Boulder Skyline Traverse once and hope to run it again this summer but this time, do an out and back ("Boulder Skyline Traverse O&B 50k"?). Good times! Love your videos, your charisma, attitude and inspiration!
That would be epic to do it twice!!
I have just found you....thank you for being You Ryan. What a beautiful, grateful soul. I also do the gratitude lists while running. How is someone with a soul like yours not married???
Great video !!! Hope to trail run in Colorado one day.
#NatureIsNeat Club
Keep up the awesome videos. Climbed up Sanitas last month. Awesome time!
Blake Johnson Nature is the neatest!
Duze!!! Didn't know you ran too. Today you were my motivation for my morning run. And of course I finished your great divide videos tonight during my stationary ride. You are so motivating. I'm down 44 pounds. Be down the last 36 before ragbrai this year. I'll do one day atleast. If route is anywhere around here you have a spot to stay.
Yeah man, running is my first love. I've got tons of running videos on my channel as well. Congrats on your progress! Hope to see you at RAGBRAI!
Beautiful segment Ryan! Fantastic scenery and quite a run on Global Running Day. I didn't run due to some knee soreness but did treat myself to a new pair of Hoka Clifton 6's! Keep up the great videos!
David Atchison im getting those shoes too!!
@@duzer Excellent. I think you'll love em!
Great upload! Native here (grew up in Westminster) and the only mountain lion I've ever seen was while hiking Mt. Sanitas and I've climbed 99% of our 14ers so you'd think I would've seen them there!
Thanks dude, and I guess we should be glad that we don't see more mountain lions :)
We are neighbors as I am in NoBo!!! Just did Bear Peak the other day and run up that paraglider jump often! Just moved here, love it here, and please keep showing videos of the area, to give me route ideas! And if you ever need a running partner, lmk! :)
Very cool!! Welcome to Boulder!!! Where did you move from?
My life's hope is to surround myself with people like Dana and Ryan. :P
bummer that it seems like you and Ali have gone your separate ways; but you are still an inspiration! Great video as always!
C Mantooth thanks buddy!! Life is still good
Another great video, Ryan; thanks for going to the trouble! Nice to have met your friend, Dana, along the way, too. Who decides on these 'days', such as World Running Day? I'd be interested in a cycling 'day' but, unfortunately, my heart doesn't allow me to run. You know, the first 2 peaks you reached are not quite as high as Australia's highest, Mt. Kosciuszko. The last 2 were a fair bit higher than our highest.
You my friend, are an animal! I used to hike Sanitas all the time, but run it? Kudos!
Thanks buddy! Hope life is treating you well
A friend got married at the ampitheatre and another friend and i hiked up the morning of and lounged. Did not disappoint. 10/10 hike and wedding.
great job. boulder the best. good spots to pick up the info for the local trails when i visit ?
11:40 advanced human beings, if it was just the norm, inspiring :)
This makes me want to live in boulder even more, maybe in 2 more years when I have proper industry experience!
do it!!! We can be friends, haha!
👍👍
Coincidence. I just planed my run for tomorrow. About 10..12 miles in the Palatinate Forest, Germany. Then went to UA-cam and this video was first on my list to watch.
GPS: Use your smart phone and the mapping / navigation app OSMand. It uses offline maps based on the OpenStreetMap. It can also record a GPS track. I use it all the time. You may also have a look at the web site Komoot...
You are such a great role model and brighten up my day. Have you considered doing patreon? I would definitely support you!
Janis yes! I’m working on patreon now, thanks!!! I’ll let you know when it’s live
Great video. Amy picked up a map today and we’re totally doing this. Though we’ll have to board Mira the wonder dog for the day🤔
you will LOVE this!
Loved the video! Random question. The audio was ridiculously good. Was that just the built-in mic in the Sony FDR-X-3000 or did you use an external mic?
That was a really nice trip, thanx for sharing! Guess I am the only one who saw the mountain lion in that one scene, up on top of that mountain in minute....oh I forgot....go see if you can find it yourself ✌🏻
hahaha, I'll have to go back and look
Pretty amazing man. Sure would be great if more people knew they could at the least ride. Even a motorcycle.
Saludos Ryan !
Zaqueo Enriquez saludos amigos!!
> Did any of you celebrate Global Running Day?
Only by chance, but I did it by running. It wasn't a route I usually run and it had some exploration and on the spot decisions. It was nice.
You ever want to do this again plz hmu would love to🤙🏼
I ran into you and SJ at the base of Green a couple months back, as you were finishing up and I was starting. I'm almost at lap 50 for the year, anyway I'd love to run the traverse with you, if you're game.
Duzer, can I come run the Boulder Skyline Traverse with you? It'd be fun and an adventure that I'd love to do some time this summer! Seriously though, let do this!
i''m new to trail running, I usually do half-marathons, I usually ride my motorcycle from New Orleans for my yearly motorcycle trips. I wanted to start planning a run on my planned trips. Would this be a really good trail run to do and would i have any issues or problems with parking my motorcycle during the run? Do you have any other locations that would be a good trail run with around 13.1 to 24 miles that you would think would be a great run to do on a trip.
I like you. Thanks for posting. You admiration and gratitude out in nature is amazing. Subbed. Keep that smile.
Definitely one of my local faves! What backpack are you using?
Anthony D ultimate direction fastpack 30
wow dana, a 32 minute 10000!!!!
crazy eh?? She was smoking fast
from what i understand the Skyline Traverse goes from South Arapahoe to North Arapahoe peak but this is still worthy any as a beautiful run
Only 2.5 liters? I'd need at least 7 liters (+ 2 lbs of food) just to hike that in cool temperatures. Looks like a great place to live, and you're doubly blessed to have Dana as a friend.
sapinva right?!?! Plus it would take me like, oooooooh, five days to complete.....lol
nice, another "odd ball couple" episode.....
Do you have a go to shoe brand you use when running? I like Brooks but even the wide runs a little narrow for my feet. Also, this may be a dumb question, but is there a certain technique that you use while running? I want to work up to running a bit during my walks, but don’t want to injure myself. Any insight would be appreciated. By the way, love Colorado and visit frequently. 😀
I've been loving my HOkas!
10:28 The guys T-shirt looks like a picture in your house. What does it represent?
how do you run every day and not get injured? i take days off but would love to run more
Enjoy your physical abilities...while u can...While I'm not a lib...I certainly identify with the love of the R Mtns. Some ppl just never recognize / sense that type of natural high. It's a sense of self actualization....Too old to do that stuff now...new knees and such...but I know what your experiencing. Power to ya!
Hey Ryan. I chatted with Cameron a couple of days ago. He said he knows you, maybe you recall who he is, Cameron Wifoff. He was one of the greatest American triathletes, top American in the early 2000s, he was top 10 at the Ironman Kona about 10 times I believe...
Maybe you could go for a run/ride with him and interview him. Many tri people will probably love to see him on camera again.
Cheers
I do know him, good idea!
Ryan Van Duzer awesome! He is a good buddy of mine too!
I noticed over UA-cam and Facebook people wondering about him. The guy was phenomenal in his time.
Here is a good story: around 2012 he broke his body going down flagstaff, like, many bones. That same year I rode my bike a lot. Right after he got out of the hospital after having many major surgeries, we went for a ride and he killed me on the bike. World class athletes are better athletes than us normal people Even when they are half crippled
Hey I love the video man. I am actually going to be in Boulder next month for a few days and I am hoping to get a few runs in on some trails and go in the mountains. Is that still possible in January? Do you have any suggestions? I will be staying downtown and thinking about renting a car.
You never know in Boulder, the weather can be very mild, and even when it's snowy, you can hit the trails, just put on some micro spikes so you don't slip on icy trails. Have fun! The Mesa Trail is a great one
@@duzer thanks a lot I appreciate the tips!
I'm guessing you have a lot of runners in Boulder. Does it get crowded out there?
Kevin Looney not too crowded, there’s room for everyone on the trails
What is in her orange case?
what would you say is the best trail running shoes to wear?
Any shoe that fits your feet and is comfortable. Seriously
When's your next ride?
Why do t you have strava?
I dunno, cause I like Komoot
It's only 17 or 18 miles, plus the distance from your house 😏.....Don't forget the extra 5-10 placing and retrieving cameras...lol
yeah, definitely extra mileage running past the camera over and over
We need a mountain lion riding a bear meme now...
haha, let's get on it!
You ever worry about Bears? I run in the back hills of Montana and I’m always worried about running into a bear or mountain lions.
Haha I asked this before I watched the entire video. My bad
Where are the starting points
1:03 For good conditions, reliable surfaces, I bet you don't need it on the bike either! Make like those lucky Dutch and Danish; let that hair blow free while you got it!
And thanks for another great video man, of course! You made me want to run more, and to be more grateful.
Do you live in a toll booth?
Dana is such a badass
she is!
I guessed Dana first but then I thought maybe Ali? I hope it’s ok to ask but what happened? Is everything ok?
we broke up a couple months ago...it's ok, we parted on good terms
Probably a realtor
hahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahaha
Wait - was the star put up to actually honor vererans?
Not originally, but it gets turned on every Veterans Day…it’s a symbol of hope
@@duzer I was gonna say, a tribute to veteran's coming from the Boulder community would have caused me to faint.
I have lived in and/or visited many towns that claim to get 300 days of sunshine per year, and have come to find that it is not true in almost every case.
Allan Jones maybe so, but boulder is certainly damn close
Also, you should get on strava. It is not all about being competitive. Just by using another cyber tool you can take your videos further, you can motivate people, and track your activities. It is fun, you don’t have to compete to use it... plus I am sure you would kick my ass, her ass, his ass, and most people’s asses
haha, so many asses to kick :) I'll look into this
