    Yeah, the record label made her sing in that unnatural "baby" voice because they thought it would be more suited for pop sound and appeal more to little kids. So it did😕

      I'm not sure that's it. I think it was because Christina Aguilera was coming out at roughly the same time. They had similar-ish voices to each other and both powerful singers. Check out the song "Soda Pop" by Britney to see how much the song sounds like Christina in places. The baby voice is there but there's also a far stronger voice at times.
      I read somewhere (can't remember where) that the change to Britney's voice was done in order to differentiate them so that the fans wouldn't be confused. The music industry would have known that Christina's music was about to arrive.
      It was also done to their images. To make them different, Christina was the more naughty, sexy one (Genie In A Bottle was quite suggestive) and Britney was the sweet virgin. Of course the vid for Baby One More Time was quite sexy, but she did come across to the press and image-wise as the innocent one and the lyrics for the song are emotional rather than sexy.

      Hazel Angus They bassicaly said her voice was to mature that was the biggest problem because they knew she could dance and wanted her to revive teen pop but they said it was to mature and soulful and would never sell pop albums so asked her about the baby method and she was down to do it cause all she ever wanted to do was sing and if it ment in a diff voice just to get her out on a stage she was down the sad thing is brit can and could sing really good but shes known for not being a good singer and its even more sad to think had she used her natrual voice instead of the baby voice would she have lasted as long as she is now in the music industry with her popularity and just be compared with every other belter

    Thanks for your reaction! Always nice to see a vocal coach dissect the changes in her voice.
    I believe it was a producer called Eric Foster White who worked with Britney on her first album that wanted her to adapt her voice to be brighter, more girlish. She still had good vocal ability during her first era (98-99) and sang live most of the time without struggling too much.
    Her voice seemed to go into a decline when she put together her next album, Oops I Did It Again - which is when the vocal fry and “baby” tone really became obvious. She struggled to replicate it live and her performances became more dance orientated.
    I think her voice is very pleasant when she isn’t forcing the commercial tone. She has a beautiful head voice and great lows. Her belting ability isn’t as polished as it was in her teens, but I think lack of practice plays a part.
    It’s not a live performance, but a really beautiful song she co-wrote just prior to her downfall in 2007/2008 - sang in a more comfortable key for her, and without studio effects. Would be great if you could take a look! ua-cam.com/video/BT8sPTkeUSg/v-deo.html

    That's so interesting how you describe fitting a big voice into a small voice. Without going into my long sob story, I think that's exactly what happened to me, so that by the time I reached my early 40's, I had brutal vocal fry happening and was singing falsetto without even knowing it. I've been working for a few years now to rebuild my voice. It's quite an undertaking. Obviously you can't speak to my particular case, but I'm wonder if you can comment on recovering from that as an adult or if you have any particular tips. I've never been diagnosed with any serious vocal problems. I've worked a fair bit with my teacher on straw phonation. Thanks so much. Oh, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on Grace VanderWaal and that funny raspy voice of hers. She's incredibly talented as a song writer, but I do worry about her voice.

    • @jgg5812
      @jgg5812 4 роки тому +1

      @@natirasohumana not really, it was just that britney was releasing an album every year during her peak and christina was taking huge gaps in between records, so of course she was selling less. Also christina decided not to be a puppet of her label after the first album so she stopped released "catchy pop songs"

    • @natirasohumana
      @natirasohumana 4 роки тому +1

      @@jgg5812 not really, Xtinas first album is exactly that and sold way less than BOMT. By the time Britney had BOMT, Oops and Britney out, Xtina had first album, a Christmas album, Stripped, a Spanish album... Like, she wasn't the indie artist you think she was lmao

    • @jgg5812
      @jgg5812 4 роки тому +1

      @@natirasohumana both debut albums did pretty well and actually xtina got 3 #1 hits (and a grammy) while britney only got 1 #1 hit. Xtina sold less basically because she debuted 6 moths later and the press constantly fueled the idea that she was a "copycat".
      Then she took a 3 years gap to release Stripped (Mi Reflejo and My kind of Christmas are not studio albums)...i mean, by 2001 britney had 3 studio albums out and Christina only 1. Then Stripped did amazingly well and outsold both 'In the Zone' and 'Britney'.
      Xtina doesn't play it safe and takes a lot of risks with her artistic vision, and stopped being a puppet of her label a long long time ago because she is bold, smart and strong minded, which is something that sadly can't be said about other artists...

      @@jgg5812 Cristina was a cheap copy of Britney with a great voice and nothing more. Britney’s real natural voice is strong and deep and sounds more beautiful than voice of Christina. Britney has more artistic skills than Cristina, she could dance, write lyrics, play piano, she definitely is more successful than Christina. Just deal with the true facts and don’t try to discredit Britney.

    Yes you couldn’t of said it any better she had a voice but she was forced not to use it by her father and all of that stuffs coming out now she’s literally telling everybody now that she is gotten away from him and she’s no longer under his protection order she is telling everybody that she wanted to sing a certain type of way but that wasn’t marketable for her but she didn’t care she wanted to do that because she loved that kind of singing but her father wanted fast money and you’re a vocal coach singing soulful R&B it takes a lot of work you got to keep up with that voice and when you get signed to a record label R&B singers especially ones that are divas and very soulful sounding they have to work a lot harder than a pop start as because there’s a lot of pop stars that don’t actually sing great they just throw some auto tunes on it tweak it a little bit and it sounds good enough for the Radio and it really upsets me because she has such an amazing voice but she was forced do not use that and it broke her heart so much that she’s literally said she doesn’t ever want to sing again and it’s heartbreaking because when you’re given a gift like that you should spread that to the world and now she doesn’t ever want to sing again

    I'm listening over and over to her kid's performance and I think she could really sing country. I love the original Naomi&Wynonna version, but Britney has this huge voice that sounds almost as rich as powerful and low Wynonna's voice. Over the years I hear how she changes to baby voice and that's AWFUL.
