As a professional, she sang higher than she's singing in this video at age 10. That suggests that singing outside of her natural range may have hurt her voice. Maybe nobody else here remembers Bo Bice, but he did really well on one of those singing competition shows with his baritone voice. Then, he came out with an album, and it flopped. I've always suspected that happened partly because most of the songs on it were Bon Jovi rejects (literally) sung in the tenor range, making him sound like a poor imitation of Jon Bon Jovi (an actual tenor). Who decided a gifted baritone should sing tenor on 80% of his debut album? Was it the same idiot who decided alto Britney Spears had to sing everything soprano? It's not like there are no examples of baritones and altos having success in popular music.

I just bought Britney’s memoir. As I read, I am revisiting on YT these moments. Such a voice! Just started the book and I already know that a lot of what has been thrown out about Britney, well, I am appreciating hearing her story. ❤

Notice how in the beginning of her career shows like mad tv had skits about how Timberlake sounded like a girl, and she sounded like a boy because of her lower register deep singing. Sadly music didn't go in that direction and all her biggest hits like Toxic don't suit her natural voice at all. Doesn't help that she smokes and most likely hasn't taken care of her voice.

Maybe nobody else here remembers Bo Bice, but he did really well on one of those singing competition shows with his baritone voice. Then, he came out with an album, and it flopped. I've always suspected that happened partly because most of the songs on it were Bon Jovi rejects (literally) sung in the tenor range, making him sound like a poor imitation of Jon Bon Jovi (an actual tenor).
Who decided a gifted baritone should sing tenor on 80% of his debut album? Was it the same idiot who decided alto Britney Spears had to sing everything soprano? It's not like there are no examples of baritones and altos having success in popular music.

The industry killed it, and it’s a real shame because she could have really done a lot with it. But, that’s not what the pop industry wanted at the time, nor was there room for it because you had powerhouses like Christina Aguilera belting it out. Still, such a shame she wasn’t allowed to let loose and let that voice of hers shine.
