Honestly for what you're getting if you don't care about air ride suspension or a 12 inch screen save your money you can get a half-decent interior in the top trim level Warlock that'll give you a vinyl package not to mention LED bed lighting and backup sensors what more could you want in a truck

My first truck I ever owned was a ranger then I bought a 98 Ram 2500 drove that till it had 275,XXX. Then traded that in for a 2010 I never had anything go bad with a ram.
Happy for you. My first truck was a 98 Ranger 4x4. Next was a 2010 1500 ram. Lasted 2 years. Next was a gamble on a 2012 Ram. Bad gamble.

The interior of the Rebel has to be one of the best interiors of any vehicle I've ever seen.

I ended up buying a new billet silver 2019 Warlock 4x4 quad cab, v6 3:21 ratio this past March for $32k USD 0% for 60 months.
Let me start off by saying that I'm a Honda/ Toyota guy, and this is my first pickup truck. My needs mainly involve getting sheet goods and lumber for woodworking and occasionally hauling a 5x10 trailer to get mulch or service my tractor. My budget was tight, I wanted to spend $32k or less. I did not think there was a new full size truck out there for me in that price range. Heck, you can't get a Ridgeline or 4x4 Tacoma for that. Durability and resell value are very important to me, but I knew I couldn't afford a Tundra.
When I started looking I thought for sure that I'd end up with a F150. I test drove the STX package as it was close to my budget and still looked sharp. For starters, the site lines are crap. It felt like driving a boat. It also drove like a brick. As I said, I've been driving cars and SUVs all my life. I wanted something that rode decently. Secondly, I can't stand a column shifter. To me that is really outdated. Lastly, I didn't think the 2.7l twin turbo's acceleration wasn't great.
After being thoroughly disappointed, as the F150 was my first choice, I decided to stop in and test drive a RAM. Now, I'm not a Chrysler fan. I swore to never ever get another one, but the new Rams were getting good reviews. I didn't even know there was a Warlock package, but when they pulled it around my first thought was, this thing looks mean. I know it is just stickers and blacked out everything, but it fit my personality. So I drove it. The first thing I noticed was the dial shifter. I know most hate it, but it seemed really convenient to me. In most vehicles, especially a column shifter, I'm messing around trying to find a gear. In this thing, I didn't even have to look. To each their own. Secondly, I got the 8.4" Uconnect system, and to me, it was much nicer/ more intuitive than the Ford. The dual climate control was nice. It does have the rear camera and sensors. It has the larger digital instrument panel. The interior is all black. Most importantly, it was a very smooth AND quiet ride. While you could hear everything banging and clanging around in the F150, the road noise was hardly noticeable in the Ram. It drove more like a large SUV, and that is what I was after. I wasn't buying a work truck. I was buying a commuter truck that was comfortable.
Yes, the v6 is no v8. It will get up and go, but there's no comparison. And honestly, the gas mileage is probably negligible. I live in a hilly environment and average about 20-21. The gen 4 Rams with a hemi around here get about 15-16. Is 5mpg worth it at the sacrifice of power and towing? To me, yes, but to most, probably not. Also, had I speced the vehicle myself, I would have gotten the 3:55 ratio for a little extra towing capacity, but my dealer only had two 2019s left on the lot. I went with the 2019 because it qualified for the 0% interest at the time and was $2k cheaper. Now the 2020s are the same price due to COVID. Go figure. The transmission is delayed and takes it's time finding the right gear. That is definitely annoying, buy you learn to live with it. I'm going to try a Pedal Commander to help with that.
With all that being said, yes, I have durability concerns. Yes, I worry about rust. Owning a Chrysler product scares me, but I took a chance. Only time will time. I bought new so that I had the full factory warranty and could make sure it was maintained properly. I bought as much truck as I could afford, and I'm very happy with it. The only thing I would have done differently is get the better gear ratio. It's a $95 addon at the factor. That's my only regret.
I know this is long, but I hope it helps someone make a decision on the classic line, mainly the Warlock. If I get 5 worry free years out of it, I'll be happy. I would have had to spend a lot more to get the same ride comfort and features in another brand, and ultimately that is what is came down to for me.
You said the 2.7 acceleration wasn’t good but you bought a v6 ram which is like driving a 88 Buick pulling a pontoon boat lol
The 2.7 eco accelerates 0-60 in under 6 seconds in the 4x4 4dr version. Maybe you just had drove a basic v6 truck.
That v6 is really nice and suitable for almost all situations, very good looking trucks, superb handling as well compared to the F150's

I ended up trading the RAM in for a 21 f150 with the 3.5l. So much torque.

@@travisstradley2577 Half ton (1500) Ram truck DO NOT have SOLID front axles, only the 2500 & 3500 trucks in RAM pickups have the solid axles.
Just got mine in the old shape and I love it...no one talks about the lighting of the footwells, small LED in the cabin , the comfort of the seats . The inch lift and 20 inch rims make a hell of a difference , the fuel efficiency is amazing with the 4 cylinder shut down under light loads. If you`re thinking of getting one you can`t lose.

FCA does this with the Journey and Caravan. It works for them and people can buy a “new” car with an old design. It is a formula that works.

Yup brand new caravans can be had for $16-17k out the door with dealer discounts. I think it's actually really good for families that don't have 50k to spend on a minivan

I bought a Ram 1500 Classic Express last year for ~42k Canadian, that's like 31k American. It has the same Hemi engine, ZF8, and 8.4" Apple Carplay/Android Auto screen as the new trucks. Only thing it lacks over the Warlock shown was parking sensors and the digital instrument cluster.
Capability wise it can still tow over 10k lbs, but payload is pretty bad with it's older frame, coil spring rears, crew cab, and 4x4. It was a trade off I was willing to accept for the price I paid, damn thing was cheaper than most midsize trucks out there.
Oh and the dealership threw in a remote starter and reupholstered the seats in leather, with orange stitching to match the paint.
Good idea getting 4x4. You could add aftermarket locker later.
you are okay till 250k kms (not miles) thats when top end of the engine wears out, till then it'll be very good. so 200k -250k is the limit. talking from experience. for that price its awesome deal.

New (relatively speaking) for old prices can't be beat for my blue-collar budget.

On the upside, it's a very well optioned and far more affordable option then what is out there now, plus it's more likely to rock solid reliable as all the bugs will have been worked out of that truck.
Yep... I got one... 4wd, lsd, 3.92 gears... Rebel without air shocks that won't cost $400+ per corner to replace when they eventually leak out. Bought used, super low miles, a little over $30k out the door. Ditched the generic 20" wheels and street tires for some 18x10-24 with some 33x12.50 grabber X3's.... Looks better than 90% of the trucks on the road.

I love the cab configuration in my RAM Express Crew Cab. The bench seat is much more convenient than the buckets with center console. On road trips an electric cooler fits perfectly on the floor between the dash and center armrest. 😎

Had a 19 new body style in the all black night edition that they made to many of... sold it and now have a 19 Warlock. Honestly, new one was very nice but my warlock is a crew cab and has almost the same interior as the new bighorn. So far I love it! And... 35s on a leveling kit instead of a full lift. Yes please! Not to mention I paid $9k less than I sold the other one for. Keep making these Mopar!

Should be comparing it to the new bighorn in my opinion. Sticker price for my 2020 bighorn was just under $54,000. After rebates it was $46,000. I have the level 2 equipment the 9 speakers the towing group and sport appearance package with 4x4 5.7L and crew cab
People complaining about the price, they do discounts $40k is MSRP. Also if thats a lot then give everyone examples of new 4x4 v8 trucks that are cheaper rather than complaining.
If you are just remembering back in the day with your single cab, cloth seated am radio work truck then you are irrelevant.

You make a deal with the sales guy then go to the finance manager and everything you've already made a deal on is out the window. Now all of a sudden all those free extras you have to pay for. They are very sneaky and hide it.

I went shopping for the Warlock in Feburary, ended up with a Bighorn DT (which would have been a better comparison then jumping up to the Rebel) With all the incentives being offered on the DT's plus the interior updates it just sense to me to go that route. Thank you for offering this comparison for people in the market. Cheers

I’ve got a 2019 Warlock and it’s interior is like the Rebel except for the seats. Another thing I wish Ram did was make the compartments user the back floor mat lockable and also the center console lockable. They skimped out on that. For the most part, I like my warlock a lot

I like the interior of the new truck and the exterior of the warlock. I love the rebel but the budget said absolutely not! I ended up getting a well optioned warlock in the sand color...because I just loved it and the $25K CAN off MSRP was awesome too.
I've owned several f150's a Sierra and a titan. This is by far my favourite of the bunch(followed closely by my '15 pro4x). There is just something very truck like about it. Its not trying to be a luxury car but still has a lot of creature comforts.
I just bought a '21 Warlock, and IMO, it is basically a lower optioned 4th gen Rebel, because many of the styling cues are either identical or very close, the grille design, the blacked out bumpers, etc.

My 2019 Warlock is a dream!
Great value. My 2020 Warlock Hemi quad was $328/mo out the door. Nothing down, but first payment. 42 mo lease and buy for $21k when done, so all in the truck is under $35k with a $46k sticker. Dual Climate control, 8.4 screen, remote start. I have seen V6 versions for $299/mo similar deal but no options. Great truck for the price, fender liners included! Ford and GM cannot touch this.
I love my 2019 warlock crew cab 4x4!! Was alot cheaper than a rebel too which is originally what I was looking to purchase. Have not been disappointed with the warlock tho. Hauls my 8500lb holiday trailer no problem as well. Also surprisingly efficient on fuel for daily highway driving here in Canada.

Had my Warlock now for just over a month. Picked up some beefier tires for it and its a tank offroad. And awesome truck for the price, 0 complaints. You can get a nicer interior than showcased in the video, full center console etc, its a nice place to be!

I have a ‘21 Rebel but I love the Warlock. They’re beautifully badass trucks. They’re kind of like baby Rebels.
I think the Classic Ram is a cool deal and the warlock package is pretty cool. Very smart of Ram to do this bc the old version is all profit probably a higher margin of profitability on the warlock then the new truck even though it cost less due to less parts used and cheaper prices from suppliers for the parts
I think this is a great idea. RAM is being really smart. If your not an interior snob getting the Classic is a great value. Getting a new V8 truck under 40 G's is really cool. Plus reliabilty should be higher on the classic. I think its great when TFL does videos on lower trim trucks.

My favorite part of the Warlock... The front bench seat! My least favorite on both... You are forced to take the pit-of-darkness black interiors.
My 2019 laramie new body style has the bench also.. it was a requirement to fit the family and friends.
I just hate because seats. You miss that front space and that snug feeling. Buckets seats are a must for me.

I went to the dealership looking for a Warlock, they're just not worth it. A decently equipped BigHorn is just a better truck for the money.

Get a power wagon then! The extra 15 stock hp and torque wouldn't be justifiable for what you're paying and if you really got money to blow just get the new TRX Ram 707 horsepower
The hemi will have lifter against cam lobe wearing due to poor oil distribution design MDS in engine... which is why I am looking for a e-torque ecodiesel in 2021
Dont buy a powerwagon. They ride like shit. Have the shitty 6 speed and the suspension is garbage. Wait until they do an overhaul of the 2500 .
@@chrisclear4452 if I'm being honest I'm regretting my ecodiesel buy. I thought I'd like the extra mileage but the extra cost when buying it will buy you a lot of damn gas. Also when I test drove it I was playing with the knobs and not really feeling the truck and i have to tell you it is the most sluggish off the line vehicle I've ever had. In the end I really miss my 2012 hemi with 140k miles of no major problems at all. I never should have traded that in.
That's when I'm trading in my ram 1500. Lol dont forget to add the supercharger
I know the now Classic body was used on the 2010-19 heavy duty. I know the 1500 usually gets the new body a year or so before though. I have a 2013 2500, and I also agree that that interior has held up well, style wise but even in a now 7 year old truck I get zero creaks and rattles from the dash and other inside. Feels a lot more solid than some of their previous interiors. That alone made me limit my search to 2010s and newer when I was shopping last year.
I know this video is a year old but the title caught my attention because of the words "cheapest v8". This truck starts out at 39k with a v6, no 4x4 and just a quad cab. After you add those things, you're looking at high 40s.
The classic RAM is still a good truck, if you can get it for a good price, I would get one.
Just don't buy the new one!

I have been shopping for a while before I bought a 22 Laramie. I traded in 2011 ram, which I loved, to get my new 5th gen. I really tried to get into a classic to save a bit, but all the things that I disliked about the 11 were still there. The new trucks have better springs in the back that don’t sag with a moderate load like the classics. Ram has fixed much of the ride issues that needed improvement. They improved the cab inside tremendously. The fan and steering are all electric, which frees up the hp for use or efficiency. Light are amazing on the new truck as well as the safety features.
Had I not spent a decade with the classic body style, I wouldn’t notice the vast majority of the improvements! Can’t lose either way.
I got the 21 warlock in Red with the black decals on the side. Red and and black on the classic looks really awesome! I'm happy and my banks happy 😆 p$. It's really not that cheap, it'll still cost you a pretty penny

I'm about to get a 2019 warlock but it has different features it has dual climate control and navigation and a spray in bedliner and has the sport hood with the dual air vents
I just got my 2019 Warlock, I don’t have the navigation but my center console is different too! It’s a full console which I much prefer. I love my truck but the tires are awful, I upgraded to the BFG KO2’s which look and perform amazing! Enjoy your truck!
The older (4th gen) trucks had keyless entry and keyless start as an option.
Yup. My 2013 Ram 1500 sport 4x4 came with air suspension and push start. Quad cab and 6.4ft bed.
I think the lower end trucks still had the wierd key design.

I'm currently in negotiations for a Warlock quad cab in dark red that is loaded vs a 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation. I think the GMC is more polished and has the nicer appearance inside and out. I know the 5.3 is pretty bullet proof, where I know about camshaft and other issues with the 5.7 Hemi. They're both under $44k here in the US. I'm at 41,888 on the Warlock, which is a little over $8000 off. The GMC is 43,900, but I'm working on a better deal on it. I'm buying it to get a larger travel trailer than the 3000 lb one we tow with our 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk V6. Not going off roading, this will be our road trip vehicle and tow vehicle. I haven't driven either, but have driven a few of this body style Ram and liked the drive. I couldn't stand the new F150 3.5 EB 10 speed and the Chevy Z71 RST was way too bouncy in the front end. Hopefully the GMC isn't the same. Our last truck was a 2013 F150 3.5EB crew cab 4x4 XLT max tow and it was awesome. Ford went backwards IMO, but they still are the #1 selling vehicle.

I have a 2021 warllock hemi & honestly love the truck..Never had any problems with it,rides smooth and the gas isn't bad..Now i plan on trading it for a Ram TRX...Overall the warlock is definitely worth the money

I priced out an Express Reg Cab with trailering stuff and V8 at $33K MSRP. Only thing is you don't find ones like this in dealer inventory.
Been searching the used market a lot for any good used truck. I’ve m not biased, I grew up liking all new brands of truck (titan, tundra, ram, f series, sierra/silverado) and I’ve noticed that the ram used market it the best value. Low mileage crew cab 4x4 v8 (with 8spd) can be had for $19-25k consistently. Others are a bit harder to find

I was thinking about getting the warlock, but once I stared looking at the new gens bighorn 2020, I found out I was getting more bank for my buck.
Local dealers (Las Vegas area) have literally hundreds of 2WD Warlocks in stock according to online inventories. Almost every 1500 Classic has the Warlock package.
The Rebel needs those red interior accents, that black out option for the interior is too plain.
The old warlock's interior is still better than the new Ford and Chevy and I've owned several Fords! 😆

The DS series trucks roots go back to the 2009 redesign and is still competitive. Just goes to show how relentless Ram has been in their half ton segment. Still a great truck. The new DT series is the Lexus of half ton trucks.
Im stuck between ram warlock and tacoma offroad. I like tacoma but i love the ram v8 engine and power and classic look. But im scared it wont be reliable or good for offroading. Nothing crazy for offroading, just cruising dirt paths.

I just bought one 2022 Warlock quad bed. One step lower than expensive one.. no fall light, no push button start, no key starter, no floor compartment, oh well.. I got screw cuz I was in a hurry before they sold last one close by 3 hr drive.
I think Ram should put the 6.2 Hemi hellcat engine in a new Ram Warlock and make a street version of the TRX.
Classic aka old style. Old style means they have left over parts on the assembly lines and warehouses, and want to get them out of the inventory system. So what do you do? Classic detroit 70's move..slap some stickers on it, add black rims and grille, and blow them out before next quarters earnings are due out.
Also I drive a 2019 rebel and i got automatic on off if your in the break for long enough
One interior piece I think is a big DOWNGRADE from the old generation is the steering wheel buttons. On the DS trucks, the buttons are individual and distinct. The new steering wheel buttons are kind of an omnidirectional mush. There's still a LOT of value in the Classic models.

Rinse out and apply cavity wax ever spring and fall with them dodge rocker panels and they might still be intact when you make your last loan payment.

I really liked my 2019 ram but had to trade it in less than a year. It had a lot of issues.
Although mine was a 2014,That’s how it was for me too. I absolutely loved how comfortable it was, all the features etc. I absolutely hated the 7 recalls in a year and a half, the constant breaking manifold bolts , the plastic bed rail moldings constantly warping in the sun... you get the picture.
Wow my 2012 has 240,000 miles and I'm now just have problems.
FCA calls it after purchase enhancements
