My son is a teacher and he makes 50k per year. 10k more 30 years later doesn't cover the increases in cost of living. I could buy a house for 100k and a new truck for under 12k back then. Had a 2016 slt quad cab 4x4 with the 5.7. Went 180,000kms. Was a bare bones truck, the dial shift sucks, never got used to it, was fairly reliable. Had top end done, $6500 at 160,000km.I used it for oilfield work.
Buy one but get 200,000km warranty on the engine. Tough truck. Buy a ready lift lift kit, I ran 34” tires, rough country bumper as the stock one doesn’t have tow hooks plus the off-road lights come with it. I had 3:23 rear end or whatever, get lower gear if you’re wanting bigger tires or tow a holiday trailer. If you keep it stock and don’t tow the 3:23 gears are the way to go. Highway speed I got 9-11L/100km before lift and bumper.
I payed $39,000 for mine traded off at 180,000kms not pretty condition and I got $15,000 in 2022 on trade.

You have to imagine that Stellantis is “wasting” a manufacturing plant with the making of the classic 155 instead of shutting it down or retooling it for a different model. Perhaps they didn’t want to mess with unions.
Also, Stellantis doesn’t have a cheaper smaller truck like the Tacoma or the Ranger, etc.
so for Ranger money, they offer a full sized truck!

Just bought a left over 2023 ram classic night edition a month ago with hemi and rare 3.92 gear option! The truck HAULS THE FRICKIN MAIL GUYS! Couldn't be happier, the dealer loaded it up more than most ram classics ive seen, we got it for 20k off the price as they're blowing out the 2023 with the 2025s arriving now. We got so lucky we found one that had everything we wanted and more except the sport hood😢. The truck looks so good in hydro blue with night edition. The truck woulda cost about 70k last year, a 2024 classic was 72k we got it for a hair under 50k(in Canada). there was a new style '24 ram in showroom upper middle class option wise and it was 104k!!! i cant imagine what the new 2025 rams will be, just a big horn will be 100k i bet. Glad we got ona the last "affordable" trucks youll ever see in north ameica. Its the only reason we did it, the price was too good and our 07 sierra 2500 6L clicked over half a million k last year, what a beast that thing has been. Worked hard pulling a gooseneck and construction equipment for half its life but it was well due time to get something more efficient. 13mpg hurts these days lol. That ram is averaging 22mpg back and forth 2 work saving us hundreds in fuel a month(lotsa driving). Dont hesitate people, get one while u still can!

I have a 2014 1500 Sport QC 5.7 and love it. My opinion is that not necessarily the other brands would be successful with having 2 models. They would need to have the sales to back it up. I think in the case of the RAM, there were some leaked images of the 5th gen, and there seemed to be quite a bit of negative feedback so they decided to keep the classic alive for 1 year. The thing they didn't expect was the superb sales of the Classic, so they kept it going. I wasn't a fan of the 5th Gen at first, but grew to like the look of it after a while. Just my opinion on the situation.

I think they learned from their vans. I picked up a Grand Caravan in 2017 and it was similarly equipped to the Pacifica at the time for more than $10,000 less. I drove the Pacifica and it was definitely a touch nicer but for the money it was a no brainer. I think this Classic is in a similar place. If you just want a truck it's basically priced the same as the small trucks other manufacturers have.

While I love the Ram Classic- I would argue it's one of the worst values in trucks if you are getting anything other than a barebones tradesman. Just for fun I just built and priced one on Ram's site. It came out to over 59,000 to get a crew cab 4wd with a few options. To put that into perspective I had a 2013 Ram Outdoorsman Crew Cab that was as loaded as you could get, and I paid $33k. Nearly an identical truck is now almost double the price- absolutely insane when you consider they are using many of the identical parts and tooling from back in 2013! As a comparison my 2021 F150 Tremor 401A (mid level package) was 58k, and has far more modern features and tech than the more expensive Warlock I just built. When you consider the poor resale value, anything other than the most basic Ram Classic is a terrible value. Really brilliant on Ram's part- though all the mfg equipment etc... has been paid for many times over- I would guess their profit on a Ram Classic is higher than any other vehicle they build.
